Can whoever it is that's doing all these recent edits please stop spamming the page with all this "only the first four games are canon, Twin Perfect is my waifu" crap?

Somehow you know that the time is right.

Should we make a Comicbook.Silent Hill page for the various Silent Hill comicbooks like "Sinner's Reward" and all the stories that Linkara has reviewed?

You know, once upon a time there was a big edit skirmish about which picture to use for this page. Should it be the first Silent Hill, the second one, the most recent one, the movie or what? Pictures came and went on a daily basis, but one thing most everyone agreed on is that this short-lived pic is a deliberate GTA-style parody that does not represent the series for anyone who isn't already familiar with it...

GTA Pic

Enjoy the smiles. You won't have a lot of these goods in the real games.

SH/GTA veterans might laugh, but nobody else is going to get it, and it conveys nothing about the tone, the setting or anything about the series itself. It's not even official artwork. So off it went.

I then compromised with a pic from the comic book series that's vague enough to apply to any particular SH game, so that way the best pics for each game can still go to their own pages without duplicating them here too. That compromise seemed to stick, and for the past few months we've lived in peace...

SH Comic Pic

Enjoy your visit.

Now an unknown troper is bent on trying to restore the old gag picture and caption, so let this topic stand as a record of why it was removed in the first place and why the current pic is in use.

I might look around later and see if there's a still better pic out there that can sum up the whole series without being overly identified with one particular game or the other. But whatever ends up getting used, it will not be a fan art pic that jokingly portrays the series as a cheerful GTA-style romp.

Edit: Finally found a better shot of the town itself from Silent Hill 2.

Removing...

  • At least in Origins and the first Silent Hill game, the town is actually a relatively thriving tourist center. Harry and his daughter are going there on vacation in the first game (at her suggestion, of course). Things might have changed by the second or third game, or later on, but no real reason is ever given to believe that they have. To most people, Silent Hill is just like any other little Appalachian/New England tourist town. It's only harmful if it wants to be.

The creators were always pretty infamous for answering everything with a Shrug of God, and nowadays fans differ on whose answers really count since the series has been split up between developers. It more or less has to work like that for Origins, but it can be interpreted differently in the first game (where whatever happened to the town seems to have happened because of Cheryl's return), and Homecoming has a completely different take on things that requires lotsa fanon to work into the Origins idea. And then there's the comic books, but the less said there, the better. :) Anyway, if that comment stands, it's just a matter of time before someone comes along and writes "actually, it's blah blah blah" and then a third person will jump in with "no actually it's this this and that", and then the natter begins. Leaving the answer vague here, and discussing the town's metaphysical nature on the JBM/WMG pages, is more appropriate, as that way everyone has a chance to respond without bogging the main text down.
