Having read the book but not seen the movie, I find the treatment of coprophagia a bit interesting: in the book it's the foursome who do all the shit-eating, even punishing the kids for wiping their bottoms.

Just a small correction: Salò - where the film is set - is a small town on the Lake Garda that acted as the de facto capital of the Italian Social Republic. To be preicse, the puppet state was never known as just "Salò" but as "Repubblica di Salò" (Republic of Salò).

Can I ask a question? Why is the reception and this page so negative. There are some like Martin Scorsese and many other artists who feel that this movie is more impressive. And a lot of information here on the production and the like is inaccurate with biographical and production facts.

Is there any way to petition for a change in tone. To make it more fair and even.

Uh yeah, this page is far too audience opinion laden. I would put up a Sandbox.Salo Or The 120 Days Of Sodom and repair the page there.

How is this film even legal? The whole thing is about little kids being put through sexual and physical torment. It's pretty much child pornography. Sure, the "graphic" scenes are rather tame by today's standards and something like The Human Centipede or Hostel is probably far worse, but still.......

I am guessing it's because "pretty much" means "not actually, as defined by law". I am not intimately familiar with it though.

First of all, bear in mind that the kids weren't put through sexual and human torment. They were treated well on sets. All the torture scenes and the like were shot with care and the surviving documents on the production showed that the set atmosphere was fine. The "crap" that the kids eat and the like was marmalade and chocolate recoloured. A lot of the actors and extras hired were within the age limits and/or had parents consent.
