I figured that he'd have a part as a baddie considering the commercials showing him touting an M249, but not like how he turned out to be in the film.

I understand that Koba's betrayal to Caesar must be hidden in spoiler tags, but is it needed to conceal as well the mere fact that he would attack and kill humans? It is clear, both from the previous movie and from the early scenes, that Koba hates humans and would do that at the first chance he got, so nobody should have been taken by surprise.

I felt like this film had An Aesop about resorting to violence and how nothing good comes from it:
- Dreyfus was prepared to kill the apes to get to the generator, a lose-lose scenario since repairing was only accomplished with the apes' help.
- Apes going to war with humans leaves lots of them dead, and in a spot where more of them are going to die fighting against somebody they might have otherwise peacefully co-existed against.
Koba was really scary, huh?
