  • Spoilers ahead * This topic is for people who've completed the fic.

Out of curiosity, what do you think of this fic? I was intrigued by it at first thanks to Eliezer Yudkowsky's recommendation, but it was ruined for me by Superman murdering Calhoun. I actually like Zod's death in Man of Steel since Superman killed him in defense of others, and Zod had also made it clear that he would kill every innocent person he could purely to spite Superman. Here, my tolerance for Dark!Superman is pushed WAY past my limits, and then it just gets worse and worse.

Lois fears Superman so much she pretends to love him (and admits she's willing to marry and have sex with a man she now loathes), and then Luthor wins in a way that feels rushed and contrived. Just to hammer in the cynicism, the author sees the need to tell us Floyd will die slowly and painfully of starvation. The ending just feels like a huge "screw you!" to the reader. I wanted to see Superman deconstructed and analyzed, not have everything he means to me get dragged through the mud.

However I did find positive reviews on Fan Fiction.net, so I know this is just my opinion. There are still some things I like about this story. What do you think?

Superman *is* deconstructed and analyzed, a nigh-omnipotent god-protector who can see and hear what you're doing at all times no matter what (save being totally surrounded by lead) is a horrific thought. No matter how good he is, he is big brother incarnate, and everyone has their breaking point, their own moral limit. His would lead to our extinction.

Just because DC doesn't want to be realistic doesn't mean that it's not analyzed in a rational way
