Comments like these make me not want to read the fan fic at all, and make me question the accuracy of the troper adding these praise-littered descriptions of the fic-in-question.
I really, really dislike what you've said here, and I'm going on a voyage to disprove most of the effectively blissful entries made about this fic.
Akira Toriyama (April 5 1955 - March 1, 2024).Don't turn this into an argument, please.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanWhy exactly do people say that this respects and understands canon? Completely derailing a hell of a lot of characters and making Shinji into a God-Mode Sue does not equal understanding canon. Neither canon, to be perfectly honest.
Hide / Show RepliesIf I had to guess, I'd say it's because it was somehow decided that making a story painfully over-the-top or replacing the cast with people who are nothing like their originals somehow makes it automatically good. Somewhere along the line, crazy-awesomeness became positively-correlated with accuracy and (even more inexplicably) quality in the eyes of quite a lot of people, regardless of the actual content.
If he was going to do that, he might as well have just written a brand new story. Actually, he did do that, since whatever you'd like to call this story or whether or not you enjoy it, it's neither Evangelion nor 40K.
Edited by DoctorThunderWhoa, Bpen redacted ch. 44? When did that happen?
Hide / Show RepliesThe problem with this fic is that now when I watch the new Evangelion movies I'm going to want them to be Shinji and Warhammer 40k. That's right; I like this more than canon.
Thats the problem EVERY fan of this series is getting. I seriously CANNOT watch any of the series or movies without finding myself confused "why is Shinji acting that way? where are your titan modules? when did you start whin-oh right this is the 'canon' series"
Was this fic the first fanfic ever to receive its own dedicated page on TV Tropes? (Squall; wasn't signed in when I wrote this)
Edited by SquallNo, but it's stalled; I e-mailed Bpen a coupla months ago about something on the trope page, and he said as much. I think it's been averaging 5-6 months between updates, so it shouldn't be too terribly much longer before the next chapter's posted.
Well he does write faster than I do. XD Why aren't we paying him for this? He needs a donate link.
Hmmm... Would one say that the prologue is a bit of a warning to readers of how long the chapters are before they proceed, and not Hype Aversion?
Proud member of the IAA What's the point of being grown up if you can't act childish?
I came here to say just one thing:
Thank you.
Thank you SO MUCH, TV Tropes. It is because of you that I discovered this amazing story. This fanfic is deeply, DEEPLY satisfying.
It's true; I like it more than the original show. I wish this WAS the original show. I wish I could go back in time, hand them this fanfic as a script, and say, "YOU ARE DOING THIS INSTEAD." Even though it would create a reality-rending paradox, it would be worth it ;_; so worth it.
