Is it wrong that I really, really DON'T like this story? Apart from the sky-high levels of Wangst, Vivian gets turned into literally the most egregious Canon Sue I've ever seen (even more so than in the actual game, and that's saying a lot), spends a good half of the story sick or injured for some pity-inducing reason, and really never accomplishes anything at all under her own power. Also Koops is my favorite character in the game and I CAN'T STAND seeing all these terrible things being done to him, and at the end of the story neither he nor Vivian has gotten any real closure against the one person who screwed them over the most. I'm sorry, but this story just upset me on a very deep level and I don't think it deserves all the praise it gets.

It just really frustrates me, because I feel like I'm the ONLY person who feels this way...

At the risk of spoilers, let me try to explain these things. Vivian's sickness was so Koops would grow closer to her, and her injuries were mainly caused by Beldam's severe beatings, and aside from a couple of comments from other party members they don't really come into play. And she does accomplish quite a bit in the story. Maybe not as much as you'd like, but if Vivian did too much she wouldn't fit the Woobie role very well, and that's what she was intended to be.

As for Koops, these horrible things happen to him so that A) he can sympathise with Vivian, and B) there's room for character development as time grows on. And he and Vivian did get closure on Beldam; are you forgetting the final battle where she falls to her death? Plus, Ms. Mowz stated explicitly that Beldam was paying dearly for her actions, implying that death is only part of what she's suffered, so you can't classify her as a Karma Houdini in any way, shape, or form.

All in all, there's nothing wrong with disliking the story, but it kind of seems to me you're just not understanding why the author put some parts in. If those parts weren't in there, the story would be really bland and essentially a novelized version of the actual game.

What I meant by Vivian not getting closure was that *she* doesn't get to kill Beldam. By all rights she should, but she doesn't. In fact the last thing she does before dying in typical Sueish fashion is get the crap beat out of her by Beldam *again*. If you read the story you'll notice that Vivian doesn't get back at her once, in any way, shape or form throughout the entire thing. I don't call that closure.

And when I said Koops doesn't get closure I was actually referring to Hooktail. I'm pretty sure literally every other TTYD fic I've read has him be the one to kill her, because that's just the way it's supposed to be. But here not only is his issue with her made a hundred times worse, he DOESN'T get to kill her. And it's obviously causing him a huge amount of turmoil. I just don't understand how that's fair or how it services the story at all. It's like the author thought the only way to bring the two of them together was to make them both as miserable as possible.

And yes, part of my complaint is that I just don't like Vivian as that big a Woobie. She should at least be able to take care of herself to some extent, but she really, really can't. She's completely helpless, and that doesn't make me sympathize with her, it just annoys me.

Sorry, I'm sure I'm overreacting. I just get very attached to characters sometimes.
