* Back from the Dead: The original Carnage Symbiote was killed off some time prior, but was able to overwrite the minds of several of the Symbiotes Cletus was bonded to during Absolute Carnage. In this story, it is reunited with Cletus's Codex in the Symbiote hive-mind and subsequently manages to manifest in the real world again, taking over Senator Krane's son and having all the memories of the events of that transpired after it's death. It explicitly refers to Toxin as it's own progeny, confirming this to be the original.
That's not what's happened.
The original Carnage symbiote is — as of Donny Cates' Venom run — dead in the physical world, with the current Carnage symbiote being the offshoot of the Grendel bonded to Cletus in the lead-up to Absolute Carnage, controlled by Cletus Kasady's codex from within the Hive-Mind. The symbiote that Cletus' codex is bonded to in the Hive-Mind might be the "ghost" of the original Carnage symbiote, though, like how Rex and Flash's codices were bonded to their deceased symbiotes as well.
