I've noticed a somewhat unique problem: In Season 2, Fringilla and Francesca both made a deal with the Deathless Mother, who essentially promised them magical help in exchange for "devotion", in the widest sense. This leads to Francesca making a deal with Nilfgaard on behalf of the elves and Fringilla committing all sorts of wild stuff when the alliance proves to be less than perfect. It's made very clear that Voleth Meir manipulates both of them (and Yennefer) and specifically influences their judgement by playing on insecurities, etc. What happens now is that several users have given the characters tropes related to their behaviour that don't take into account that they have been influenced. I've removed several (Francesca isn't a Horrible Judge of Character for not realizing that Nilfgaard is ruthless when she enters an alliance with them, she is relying on Voleth Meir fulfilling her wish), but would like to know, if there is anything else we can do in this case? Or is it best to just remove things and explain that there was an outside influence?

Added for closure: I've decided to go on a case-by-case basis.

New issue now that the characters page is properly split: Where do we put the Temple of Melitele?

There's only 2 proper character affiliated with it so it doesn't merit it's own subpage, so... do we put them in the Northern Kingdoms subpage? Or in the Sorcerers page?

I don't think the Northern Kingdoms is the right place for them, given that the temple is decidedly neutral unlike the other characters there, who are all affiliated with Northern politics. If we add them to the Northern Kingdoms page based on their geographic location alone, characters such as Jaskier or Renfri would belong there as well which I'd argue against. The Temple as a whole also doesn't seem to consist of mages, I got the implication that while this version of Nenneke is one the same doesn't apply to other members of the temple such as Jarre. My suggestion would be to add them to the Independent Characters, which seems most fitting for the Temple's outspoken neutrality.

With all the new characters from the second season, the page is getting a little unwieldy.

I propose that with split it into subpages under these categories:

  • Main Characters
  • The Brotherhood of Sorcerers
  • The Nilfgaardian Empire
  • The Northern Kingdoms
  • Witchers
  • Supernatural Entities
  • Independent Characters

Most of these are the headings already in the page, but I propose moving the creatures and entities that are characters on their own to their own subpage.

I just realized will need to add a category for the Elves.

I agree, the page has gotten rather extensive and with a third season in the making it's only bound to become even larger in the future, so maybe it would be for the best to split it now. All of these categories are definitely large enough to exist as their own sub-pages, while being less cluttered than the characters page currently is.

Agreed.

I just copied the existing text to a Word document to start the process and it filled 79 pages.

Definitively needs splitting.

The split is done. If anyone thinks the order of the index in the main characters' page needs to be different, please be my guest.

  • Do we even need a Vesemir folder? He's never referenced in the show except in Geralt's visions when he's delirious. All the tropes are assumptions based on the book/game character but not on his actual role in the show.

Personally I'd say there isn't enough info about him to warrant a folder as there are only two (episode 1 as well) references about Vesemir, but it's theoretically possible for someone being tropefied based on other characters' impression of that character of course.

I agree that there isn't enough to warrant a folder. Since this page is meant to be show-exclusive, there really isn't a lot material for Vesemir so far. Emhyr, the other mentioned-but-unseen character in the first season who has a folder of his own at least has a direct impact on the plot through his invasion of the north, but Vesemir is barely mentioned and has no impact on the first season at all. Much as I like extensive character pages, I'm in favour of cutting his folder until Season 2.
