Shouldn't the four kings be a sup-age of II? That's when the group technically debuted.

I agree - let’s add a ‘II’ to the title? So Street Fighter II: The Four Kings. That aligns it with II’s other characters.

Oh, I was just thinking we'd indent it while keeping the name. My concern is that the way it's presented makes "Four Kings" sound like a series entry rather than a character group

Sorry, not sure how you mean? I think the current set up is fine to be honest; most users visiting the site will be fans of the series and will work out the indexing without confusion.

How do people feel about the restructuring of character pages to be more in line with other fighting game character pages (Using Guilty Gear character pages as an example here)? This will include things such as headers displaying the character's full name (Similar to what the individual character articles have), additional info such as height and weight, likes and dislikes, date of birth, etc, and better separated English and Japanese voice actors / portrayals

Why is this guy giving separate pages to a bunch of individual characters? They were already in collapsible folders.

This actually makes everything look worse, more cluttered, and harder to navigate.

Agreed. I don't think the pages are long enough to need this, plus the SFII page has been split to original and updated versions when it did get too long.

Hi all, Darth Ender X and I have been debating the use of the flags on the character pages for all games in the series this last couple of days, after he recently hid them behind a prompt.

My view is that since this series' inception, the flags have been a prominent part of how these characters are presented - whether that be on the games' select screens, world maps, or the official sites, as well as The Other Wiki. I feel it adds to colour to the presentation, and is thoroughly in the spirit of the "World Warriors" theme of the series.

Rather than go back and forth, I thought this should go to discussion before any decision is made, as this format has been in use for a long while, so before it changes, it'd be good to have regularly contributors' (below) opinions.

My argument on the subject is basically this, I feel having multiple images for each character entry makes the page overly cluttered, and having images of different sizes and shapes gives the page a sloppy appearance. Which would be fine, if there was value to the images. For example, the character images themselves add value because knowing a character's appearance can give you a better understanding of a character and it's tropes. Likewise, knowing where a character is from can give you a better understanding of a character and it's tropes. But that information is already conveyed through the "Origins" field. Knowing the flag's appearance of a character's country doesn't give you any new information about the character. And as a way of conveying the character's origin, it's redundant to the "Origins" field, and also worse at it, as the flag only conveys that information if the reader already knows what country a given flag belongs to.

As for the argument that flags are a prominent part of the series, the games themselves haven't used flags since SF 2, some 25+ years ago. Many of the flags on these pages have never actually been associated with the characters in the games. There's also the fact that user lexii started adding them to games such as Art of Fighting and Samurai Shodown, games that never had a focus on character flags to begin with. So I don't know what the excuse is there.

So despite all these reasons I have for not wanting the flags to be there, I'm not insisting that they be removed entirely. My compromise, which can be viewed in the Art of Fighting character page, is to put the flag images behind a clickable Note next to the Origin, so that the flags are still there, and still easily viewable to anyone that really wants to know what they look like. But they aren't automatically visible, adding to the overall clutter of the page.

tl:dr, they make the page look sloppy, they take up viewable real estate while providing no additional information, they should be hidden behind notes.

I think putting the flags in a note is a fine compromise. If it were up to me, I'd have the border around the flag image be as wide as the character image, with the flag centered, but my version of it was undone some time ago. It wasn't perfect, but I think it looks better than having them be tucked away in the corner. There's also the problem of characters with multiple flags in the "Other characters" page and on the page for Final Fight's cast, where multiple flags just look really sloppy. I'd say putting them in notes is the best solution there is.

I think the flags in notes is fine, too.

That's cool.

So now that we've decided, I came upon two issues while making the changes that I'm wondering if anyone has solutions too.

1. When I tried to upload the flag images using the same ones that were already there I got a "images must be 100x100 pixels". I'm not sure how you even got those original flag files loaded, so I had to use bigger images.

2. For whatever reason, if I tried to link the same flag image more than once(because, say, there's like 5 characters on a page from Japan), only the first instance of that image would work. In order to work around this, I had to upload the flag again separately for each time I wanted to use this.

The quoteright images don't have this problem for some reason, but the ones in the Notes did.

Yeah, I think maybe the flags might need to be nixed because of those problems. Keeping them seems to be more hassle than they're worth.

  • shrug* I already did them. It was more work, but I'm pleased with the final result.

The flags are a little bit larger now, but it's not really an issue because they're hidden by default anyway. You click the flag to see it, then hide it when you're done.

Is there a specific reason why the VOICED BY: segments for EACH AND EVERY LAST FIGHTER' for every page are all Notes?

I get it: There are a bajillion voice actors, both Japanese and English, for the numerous characters who have repeatedly shown up from the original Street Fighter 2 game, anime and cartoon adaptations, and their subsequent appearances in later games. It makes sense to hide back all those actors behind a Note just so the page itself doesn't have to show them all.

But why apply it to every other character, especially those who were introduced in Street Fighter IV and Street Fighter V? They only have two actors, one Japanese and one English.

The only thing adding a note to all of their names does, is take up more characters in the coding in the wiki page. If anything, at least just have the current voice actors visible, and the rest hidden behind a note. The characters in the coding is already there, so it's not like more space would be taken up.

Also: Give Jessica Calvello proper credit for voicing Rainbow Mika's Assist Character.

I assume it's simply for consistency. Since different people view pages at different resolutions, it's hard to judge exactly how much space each entry will take up, so making it the default catches everything.

And additional coding is pretty irrelevant, as the only ones that ever see that is the editors.

"If anything, at least just have the current voice actors visible, and the rest hidden behind a note."

I'm okay with that.
