Edit: This issue has been resolved through private messages. Pay it no mind.

An Edit War has started over these two examples in the section for the mayor of Bliss Hill. We need to talk this out before it gets out of hand. Do these examples count?

  • Fair-Weather Friend: He's kind to Nomad when and only when he needs his help, after which he kicks him right back out. He's portrayed sympathetically though.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Has reasons for doing what he does, but it doesn't make him less of a douchebag.

I'd argue "no" for both.

He isn't really being a jerk, he's just trying to protect his community. Magic is outlawed and, as the Sherriff himself says, it would draw a lot of unwanted attention (which it does in the form of the Ranch Hand). Also, Nomad accidentally caused major property damage. Those are both valid reasons to make him leave.

In terms of being a Fair Weather Friend... I just don't see how it applies. He only went to the Nomad for help because it was his only choice if he wanted to save his boy. When things were over and done with he gently asked Nomad to leave because a good person or not the Nomad is dangerous simply due to the people he has after him. Even when asking him to leave the Sherriff is amicable with him and is shown openly wishing him luck. Point is, he's an authority figure who needs to protect his community. He wasn't using the concept of friendship to manipulate Nomad only to yank it away. He COULDN'T allow Nomad to stay because his presence would have put everyone else in danger.
