The odd ends at the bottom seem to fit the category of LIARS but that is too much of a spoiler and there is only two of them.
There seems to be a bit of a glitch with the indexing. It goes from Main Characters to Mankanshoku Family... and then starts listing the tropes the non-index characters, starting with Badass and continuing onward in that fashion.
Unless the images are moved back to the right where they belong, this article and all its children will be cut. Time's up on Sun 17 March.
Goal: Clear, Concise and Witty Hide / Show RepliesI am working on this. Main page is done.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanI've done all the other pages except for Kiryuin Conglomerate (which is currently checked out).
I did that. Also, I've added the %% notes to all subpages and watchlisted them.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanOh dear, it looks like a page split is going to be needed. Massive lag whenever I check this character page.
Pages would probably organized in the same manner as the large titles already present, although some smaller sections ought to be merged (e.g. Club Presidentsto be merged with Other Honnouji Academy Students, with the latter keeping the page name).
Here's a draft:
- Main Characters (same folders)
- Elite Four (same folders)
- Other Honnouji Academy Students (merged two sections)
- Nudist Beach (same folders)
- Kiryuin Conglomerate (same folders)
- Mankanshoku Family (same solders)
Aye, 634185 is too much. I'll report it here and proposed a split scheme.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanThis is going to take too long to re-spoil everything, so I've put a WARNING sign ahead of time.
"They played us like a DAMN FIDDLE!" — Kazuhira Miller, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain Hide / Show RepliesTechnically, the spoilers were removed by the site administrator because people could not stop spoiler tagging trope names. That is a big policy violation.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanUnspoilered trope names with a spoilered context are the way to go, right?
"They played us like a DAMN FIDDLE!" — Kazuhira Miller, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom PainIn general, yes, but remember not just to white everything out
- Trope Name: loads and loads of whitespace running for ages and ages and just covering absolutely everything
Is just as unhelpful. Try:
- Trope Name: Occurs in episode 13 when very specific information happens, throwing everything into a new light.
That way you've left enough information in so that spoilerphobes can work out where the spoiler occurs, but left out the specifics itself. People come to these descriptions at different stages in their consumer experience, and they need to know when a spoiler occurs in a work because some of them will have part consumed a work and need to be able to work out if this is something in part of the work they have already consumed or whether it is still to surprise them. Whiting out the entire thing is just Schmuck Bait for those part way through a work as it could come from anywhere and the only way to find out is to highlight it.
I have to admit, your explanation made much more sense than reading that actual part of the guideline!
"They played us like a DAMN FIDDLE!" — Kazuhira Miller, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom PainWrong reply.
Edited by 206.248.181.40 "They played us like a DAMN FIDDLE!" — Kazuhira Miller, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom PainDiscuss the viability for the Fight Club President seen in Episode 7 (which is currently left commented out).
I personally don't mind uncommenting it since it has so many tropes for its one and only appearance, and it would be too much hassle to add its tropes to Mako's list, which would unsurprisingly create more wording than it's worth every single time this episodic character is mentioned.
Edited by 76.10.172.120 "They played us like a DAMN FIDDLE!" — Kazuhira Miller, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain Hide / Show RepliesI don't see why Mako's one episode two-star uniform warrants its own folder. It's needless and not particularly spoiler-y either. Adding the tropes to Mako's profile and mention them to be part of her temporary two-star uniform makes much more sense.
Like I said, think about all the unnecessary clog-up every single time this particular two-star uniform gets mentioned in Mako's entry.
"They played us like a DAMN FIDDLE!" — Kazuhira Miller, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom PainUnnecessary clog-up? It's quite simple, it's just more tropes added to her entries and it's not even that many either. It's WAY better than giving her two-star uniform from an episode not even halfway through the series its own folder when way bigger spoilers are in the open.
Fine, I'll edit it and let you see how ugly it will become.
I feel the need to call you out on your edit history, by the way.
"They played us like a DAMN FIDDLE!" — Kazuhira Miller, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom PainI ain't no saint either in regards to editing and makes my mistakes and bad calls. I can freely admit that.
As for how you edited it in, it wasn't exactly what I had in mind, but alright (Though it still isn't a colossal spoiler). This is not a page I intend to frequent and edit much anyway, but the thing about the fight club president just happened to bother me.
Edited by 62.198.152.180You're right about being no colossal spoiler. Mako's one-episode uniform and Maiko Ogure's Walking Spoilers status have been changed to Monster of the Week instead, which I deem is worth noting due to their episodic nature.
"They played us like a DAMN FIDDLE!" — Kazuhira Miller, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom PainUnfortunately, it seem another troper was adamant about making it a different folder...
"They played us like a DAMN FIDDLE!" — Kazuhira Miller, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom PainWould it be okay to add Aloof Big Brother sister version to Satsuki's profile or would it be too spoilerific?
Edited by 178.42.28.34 Hide / Show RepliesI'm not the one to ask as far as spoilers are concerned, but my opinion is that it should be fine to add it. I mean, this trope doesn't need to be added to Ryuko's profile too, and we only learned about Satsuki's family (and thus learned she has no other siblings than her) in the episode where it was revealed that they are sisters.
So possibly a spoiler for those who can piece it together, but for as long as we don't outright state outside of a spoiler that the younger part of this equation is Ryuko it ought to be fine.
That trope does not apply, seeing the revelation that they're biological sisters is recent for both Satsuki and Ryuko and they've never considered themselves anything beyond mortal rivals up until that episode. Unless one of the last episode has them spending some family time together or some bizarro dream sequence within Ryuko's currently warped mind.
"They played us like a DAMN FIDDLE!" — Kazuhira Miller, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom PainI feel as if most of the characters' names, particularly those related to clothing, are more an example of Theme Naming rather than Meaningful Name. The latter only really applies when the name represents some profound part of that character's personality, history etc.
I'm wondering, would it be fine to add an entry for Satsuki's sister, one similar to the entry for the Fight Club President?
Hide / Show RepliesNo, because she's not alluded to until episode 18, and most of the tropes belonging to such an entry run the risk of being entirely spoilered out anyway. What's more, some tropes can already be related to Ryuko, so it's a moot point.
Edited by 132.204.240.3 "They played us like a DAMN FIDDLE!" — Kazuhira Miller, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom PainAbout Ryuko's "second surname", Ragyo never bothered to even give her a name, so it is correct to give her the Kiryuin surname?
Edited by 93.187.41.57 Hide / Show RepliesTechnically speaking, yes. In Japan, when children get adopted, they still count as members of their original family (at least as far as names are concerned) unless they go out of their way to proclaim otherwise. And chances are, Matoi Isshin just changed her name on his own and stopped caring then (and even the name he gave her is ... half-assed; I mean, seriously, "abandoned child"?) which means that she is free to choose now.
Honestly though, I'd wait until the show finishes airing to decide; if she proclaims that she is no Kiryuin in the meantime, at least we won't have to fix it.
Does The Original Life Fiber warrant its own entry yet?
Shamelessly plugging my comics, Oh yes. Hide / Show RepliesSince it's hard to consider it a character with a considerable amount of tropes belonging exclusively to it, I'd say wait a little longer.
"They played us like a DAMN FIDDLE!" — Kazuhira Miller, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom PainHi, folks,
in case you wonder why the page was locked, it's because of persistent violations of the Handling Spoilers policy by its editors.
There is a forum discussion here where you can request edits to the page. Don't post them here; they will be just missed.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard Feynman Hide / Show RepliesYou know, I'm pretty sure this is the only page on the site where I've seen a ban on spoilered trope names.
Actually, it's been a ban sitewide since some time - see Handling Spoilers. This page is just the latest "problem page" in that regard.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanBecause the administrator got ticked off by the persistent violation of the abovementioned policy, I believe.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanHello, can you unlock this page, please? I'm sure that no one would abuse of Handling Spoilers, I think.
I have to ask why is it a problem that trope names are spoilered? As far as I can tell, it's the perfect, if not the only way to deal with Walking Spoiler characters. This switch in policy frankly makes no sense from the editorial standpoint.
Because it violates the Spoiler Policy. Spoilering the trope name renders the trope example functionally useless.
It has a forum discussion here.

I really don't like the amount of spoiler tags covering characters' examples. Does anyone have any qualms about me editing the spoiler warning and removing the tags entirely? I feel it would be reading much easier.
