Poison and Roxy

One thing that bugs me about this page is that it doesn’t make a distinction among pre-/non-op transsexual women (identify and live as women, don’t have or don’t feel the need for genital surgery), post-op transsexual women (identify and live as women, have had genital surgery), and cross-dressing men (identify as men, dress up as women for fun). Ono’s Word of God confirms that Poison and Roxy are post-op transsexuals in the West, but is Capcom clear on whether they’re pre-/non-op transsexual women in Japan, or simply cross-dressing men? (It doesn’t help that Capcom doesn’t seem have a strong grip on the terminology as well.)

If, in Japan, they are simply transsexual women who’ve either haven’t gotten genital surgery yet or never felt the need for it, it would be entirely appropriate to call them “she” and female throughout Japanese materials. (And, as a so-far-non-op transsexual herself, it would put This Troper on cloud nine.) Then again, cross-dressers are often called “she” as well, especially when they are in any sort of drag persona. Another possibility is that Capcom has no idea either if Poison and Roxy in Japan are transsexual women or crossdressing men, but I’d hope this page could make the distinction, even if Capcom can’t.

(I’d make the edit myself, but as someone unfamiliar with Final Fight, I’m timid...) —Tina Russell

The thing is that I've beaten every Final Fight game and even I'm not entirely sure on the canon. Ah, okay, the Word of God clears this up.

Anyway, Poison is definitely a pre-/non-op transsexual in Japan. There's no question. The issue of Roxy is a little confused since she's just a Satellite Character to Poison, but the latest canon states she was born and remains a woman, so we'll go with that.

That said, I'm not sure what specifically you want to be changed about the article. Pronouns, or something?

Wrestler, bodybuilder. No hopes, no dreams.
