Some of these are really pigeonholed attempts to force characters to fit into particular jobs. We don't need to list every character in the series here. I'm thinking of going through and cleaning some of them up unless people can offer a really good argument not to...

Furthermore they're lists of "Notable" characters. Not every named character who may fall under one of these should be listed IMO.

I also think non canon spinoff portrayals should be excluded in most cases, with specific reasoning below. This would be for most of the characters who come from games with flexible job systems and no consistent canon portrayal in those roles.

Candidates for removal:

Warrior:

  • Milleuda, Loffrey - both minor characters in their games that have plenty of representatives for this job already
  • Brave Exvius Luneth - Non canon spinoff portrayal

White Mage:

  • Bremondt, Zalmour - Again, not notable. Alma and Ovelia are already listed for Tactics.
  • Record Keeper Lenna - If we're going to list anyone specifically from Record Keeper I'd rather just go with Elarra. Furthermore, I don't think we should go with "non canon" spinoff portrayals because those can vary a lot. Mime Bartz can stay, but only because it's a pretty significant part of his portrayal and became associated with him ever since Dissidia.
  • Brave Exvius Refia - Same as the above.

Red Mage:

  • Vanille, Hope - They're already listed under Black Mage and White Mage, respectively, which fit them better IMO (neither of them are associated with physical jobs)
  • Krile - Non-canon spinoff portrayal.

Dragoon:

  • Izlude - Not a notable character

Samurai:

  • Elmdore - Not a notable character, but since he's the only one who may be considered a Samurai in Tactics I suppose it can stay...

Dark Knight:

  • Golbez - He is never called a Dark Knight to my knowledge the same way Cecil is. He's really just a powerful black mage who wears armor. After Years makes him a sort of Paladin variant who wields black instead of white magic, but that is something unique to the series rather than a Dark Knight, IMO. (Edit: On second thought, he can probably stay).
  • Exdeath - He is just an armored mage who wields a sword in Dissidia. He also uses white magic. He isn't even a Black Knight like Golbez is.
  • Gabranth - Just a knight type, if anything. He is exactly like Basch except his Quickenings are a different color.
  • Argath (War of the Lions only) - Not worth mentioning IMO, he is just a revived zombie.

Mystic Knight:

  • Ashe - She is commonly depicted to be a Glass Cannon with high Strength and Magic stats, but never combines them in a way Mystic Knights typically do. I'd say Red (Battle)Mage if anything, but she can also fall under Knight or Black Mage just as easily and since she doesn't have any strong associations I'd suggest leaving her out of this list altogether. Not every character easily slots into one.
  • Aliste - Not notable.
  • Cid (XVI) - Kind of for the same reason as Ashe. He just wields a sword and has powerful lightning magic. I'd be hesitant to list Jill under Red Mage for the same reason, but she does know curative magic as well, at least.

Gunner:

  • Barich - Not notable
  • Opera Omnia Lenna - Non canon spinoff portrayal

Berserker:

  • Barret - He is not a Berserker. It feels like he is only here because he can be built as a close range Mighty Glacier if the player chooses too, and because his short tempered personality is noted in the story. But you never lose control of him and he's never this class.

Geomancer:

  • Selphie - Not sure why she is here at all. She is fine being listed just under White Mage and Gambler.

Machinist/Gadgeteer:

  • Terra (initially) - Because she is briefly played in Magitek armor at the beginning of the game? By that logic anyone who uses a vehicle in battle should be a Machinist (like the whole XIII cast). She is never particularly associated with machinery after that either.
  • Elena - Not sure she fits under any job. She just uses a Molotov Cocktail for one attack and is otherwise just a physical brawler.
  • Cinna - Not part of his gameplay. He wields a hammer (and is noted for being decent with machinery outside of battle), but mechanically he is no different from the rest of the Tantalus Thieves. He is just a Thief.
  • Hope - Also not part of his gameplay other than the fact that he has a mechanical Battle Boomerang. Yes, he is good with machinery, but so is Zell, and Zell is not a Machinist.

Alchemist:

  • Hollander - A stretch IMO but I suppose it can stay. He seems like he is being pigeonholed into this and Beastmaster; I can see the thought process behind it but I am not sure if I agree.
  • Blank - Not part of his gameplay. He is just a Thief who brews potions outside of battle.
  • Nidhana - Not really notable.

Scholar:

  • Quistis - Not sure of the thought process behind this one. Is it just because she is smart and coincidentally wields a whip just like Harley does? She is fine being listed under Blue Mage only.
  • Joshua - Same reasoning as Cid above. If anything I would slot him under Red Mage because of his capability of buffing and healing, and he at least has a red color scheme seemingly as a nod to this. He has next to nothing in common with other Scholars other than the fact that he is a literal scholar (lower case, not the FF job) of history.

Onion Knight/Freelancer - I think we should rule out characters who are only here because they feature in a game with a job system. Onion Knight is a specific identity that I believe only the Dissidia Onion Knight and maybe Mobius Wol have. If Lightning and Jack Garland are in, then we would include the III DS kids, Bartz's party, Ramza...

Sage:

  • Cletienne - Not notable, but unlike some of the other minor Tactics villains mentioned here he kind of stands out for being a magic focused character and he's the only one from Tactics who fits, so maybe.
  • Y'shtola - She was listed here previously but taken out, but I'm going to argue for her inclusion in this list. While not a Sage as part of XIV's lore specifically, she would be considered one with the greater FF definition of Sage in mind, as noted under the In Name Only trope entry.

Removed from main page, as there is a cleanup effort on one of the pages linked here underway and I am not sure what to do with this entry:
