In the ''Star Trek'' entry, I deleted the bit about casting Ricardo Montalban as Khan being progressive, because at the time, it wasn't. Light-skinned Hispanic and Latino people, like Montalban and Desi Arnaz, were considered white up through the 1960's. (Hence why ''I Love Lucy'' was allowed. Had Arnaz been regarded as a man of color, anti-miscegenation laws would have kept the show from airing. Hell, it would have kept him and Lucille Ball from being able to get ''married''.) The fact that Montalban in ''Space Seed'' was wearing heavy, obvious brownface make-up and a bad black wig doesn't really help. It's progressive from ''our'' perspective, but by the standards of the 60's, they were casting a white man to play a man of color.

He was born in Mexico, but his parents were white Spanish immigrants. The fact that in \'\'Space Seed\'\' he was wearing heavy, obvious brownface make-up and a bad black wig doesn\'t really help.
