There are arguments for and against whether she actually fits the \\\"is kind to her slaves\\\" part -- on the one hand, she treats her damane quite well by Seanchan standards (i.e. she treats them as a dog owner might treat a beloved pack of dogs), but on the other hand she does still break their minds and also treating them as an excellent pet owner would their dogs is still treating them sub-human.
But aside from that, there is also the fact that she\\\'s a person who would be a completely awesome person on almost every level if it wasn\\\'t for the BIG detriment of owning (and worse, breaking) slaves.
