I've removed the spoiler tags because an entire entry shouldn't be tagged, so bear in mind it's spoiler-free.

[[quoteblock]]Shouldn't the inconsistency with previous purges still bring it into this trope?[[/quoteblock]]

Besides, the trope description is pretty clear -- if foreshadowing has occurred, the trope is not in effect. How fans feel about the build-up is irrelevant - it doesn't matter if the build-up is considered good, bad, rushed, too slow, etc., that's a different issue and a different trope.

Even if fans have decided that their head canon about all the Auswahlens means Kubo's been very inconsistent, it's irrelevant for the AssPull trope -- that kind of dissatisfaction probably has a different trope somewhere that can be used instead.

Short answer? No. We know so little about the detail of previous Auswahlens that any attempt to compare and contrast will run mostly off assumption and speculation.

My response would be: no. We know so little about the detail of previous Auswahlens that any attempt to compare and contrast will run mostly off assumption and speculation.

Looking at some of these numbers, it seems Miura-sensei just decided to \"divide them by groups\" and age them apart like \"school batches\" or something. I mean, maybe it\'s not impossible... but I also find it a little bit too contrived that Guts, Casca, and Griffith are all the exact same ages (give or take maybe a few months in gap). I always figured the latter two, (especially Griffith) were older than Guts by at least 3 to 6 years. And correct me if I\'m wrong, but wasn\'t Casca supposed to be considerably younger when Griffith first met and rescued her? Sheesh... The only good explanation I think is if Miura really did choose not to count the years Griffith spent between the Eclipse and his \"rebirth\". At least Isidro, Schierke and Isma\'s are varied...
