resolved Story about an English king.
A (probably) apocryphal tale holds that a king of England (I think it was pre-Norman conquest) was in bed with his mistress and thus disinclined to attend a ceremony in his honor, and only made it to the ceremony because one of the bishops physically dragged him out of bed.
Anyone know the king's name?
Edited by Chabal2resolved Bouncing Robots (Solved) Videogame
Does anyone remember this game?
It is an RPG where you start with a round Robot Buddy, and whenever you get into a random encounter, you have to bounce your robot on the walls to tackle your opponent and defeat it.
Edited by ElBuenCuateresolved Adult cartoon Western Animation
I remember a scene about this cartoon. I think it was an adult cartoon, more like The Simpsons than South Park.
A husband and wife go to an insurance company and the agent offers a nice plan for the widow. Then the husband has an Imagine Spot of his wife in a fancy mansion already with another man, asking him to make her forget about her husband, while throqing her cigarretes on his own ashes. And then he simply asks the agent for more plans.
resolved Superman spoof from the 70's Live Action TV
Hello tropers !
I am currently looking for a TV show (it might actually have been an film, but I'm not sure) I watched (on rerun) when I was young.
It might have been from the 70's, and I think the whole point of the show was a superman spoof.
I remember a scene from an episode where the backstory is about a pet bird that somehow acquired a super strenght.
The dialog goes like this :
Policeman [pointing to the sky] : It's a bird! No, it's a plane! No...
Spoof Superman [handing a birdcage with the bars damaged] : No, it's a bird!
Does any of this ring a bell? Thank you!
Edited by Fauvelusresolved Sci Fi movie featuring a holographic girlfriend Film
What was the movie - a sci fi action thing with comedic elements - where a minor character, a loser who's friends with the main character, has a holographic girlfriend/wife that's poorly programmed to always be in love with him - one scene has the main character going into the loser's house for some reason and the holograph offers him sex, even unbuttoning his pants. Then, when the loser gets shot and dies, the 'girlfriend" sees him covered in blood on the floor and says "Did (character) fall asleep on the floor again? That's so cute."
resolved library book, name forgotten Literature
I can't remember the name of this book, but the main character was a young man who grew up in a family that raised (?) horses. He took a liking to a blind horse with a name starting from 'B' and promised to buy her or something of the like. But he was too late, and the horse was either sold or given away. He and his mother later heard about a horse that was famous (or something) around the same time horse B was given away. So the young man moves away from his house to work with horses in the city, and is made fun of for his small hands (they're like a woman's hands, I think was the insult), and that he'll never be able to train race horses. But he still manages to anyways? A line I remember from this book is the crowd shooting "Show us the way" during one of his races. He eventually finds the horse he and his mother had talked about early in the book and had the opportunity to race with her. The book ends on a happy note, I think. Can anyone help?
resolved Not Real Torture Film
I rembember the scene of a movie about a guy that had another dangling from a rope and saying he was about to tortures him with a blowtorch to his back, saying that ironically the fire actually feels like cold on the nerves.
But instead, since the man cannot see him, he simply uses the blowtorch on a steak, and starts rubbing a pospicle on the guy's back, just making him believe he is burning him.
Edited by ElBuenCuateresolved Movie about a boy and his spaceship toy Film
I'm looking for the title of a movie made in the 80's. All I remembered was a boy with a spaceship "toy" that could do fancy stuff. The movie was aimed at kids and followed the sci-fiction trend left by Star Wars and E.T. Any guess? Thanks.
Edited by Nevermore2002resolved Survival reality shows
These were a while ago. Dare i even guess 10 years? The shows were all professional survivors going in the middle of nowhere to survive and explain to the camera man how it works. Except #2, where evasion was the main point (though durvival was also an element because all the e pisodes except the city one were in the wilderness).
- A survival show where a soldier and a hippie (always the same 2 people) were sent into different places every episode. They broke up and both were at some episodes with a different person filling the other role. The first hippie had two braids and i think he actually lived in some kind of a tent in the wild. I think somebody's first name was Cody. One guy intentionally cut himself so that he could show how cauterization works.
- I thought that the title was "Manhunt" but i didn't find anything. A kind-of survival show where the american soldier's mission is to be at a specific pickup point at a specific time without the location"0's special forces catching him (they are in on it). I remember that the locations ranged from a city to savannah.
- I thought it was Bear Grylls. A similiar survival reality show with one episode where the guy is on a raft and says "Lie Back and Think of England" before giving himself an enema, possibly for no other reason that he wanted to show it to the aidience.
- Another survival reality show where there was a bunch of apparently famous people, including the hippie from the first one i think. It starts with the guy whose turn it is being abducted by the rest (in one episode the guy was giving a seminar about planning or survival, one of the other people shows up. The guy casually continues talking about escaping, then jumps off the platform and runs. He outwits his chasers and runs to the fire escapse ladder, only to find himself surrounded) and dumped to the starting spot with a bunch of variying items. There was also an episode where a guy was dropped off in Lapland dressed at Santa Claus and it ended when he ran into some sámi people at the last minutes (there was a certain time limit within which the person has to find people, and their body functions were also monitored and they're picked up if they drop too much).
resolved Make Mona Lisa smile
I can't remember if this was a children's book or a video game. It features Leonardo da Vinci, who is almost done with the Mona Lisa, but can't paint the mouth because his model won't stop sulking. The protagonist's goal is to cheer her up so Leonardo can finish the painting.
Edited by Madison14resolved [Solved] Phantom of the Opera-esque movie with a flooded city and slingshot murder. Film
So, saw this on Russian TV at some point. The movie was clearly heavily inspired by Phantom of the Opera, but I could not find it anywhere by looking at Phantom adaptation lists. Overall picture quality, I say puts it in early to mid 2000s. I tuned in somewhere in the middle of the movie. Fantasy setting, in a Venice-like city on water. And it's raining heavily, so it's flooding. Medieval/renaissance style.
Scenes I recall: The main villain is a disfigured young man in a half mask, the Phantom, as I'll call him from here on out. He invites a princess/noblewoman (possibly his sister?) to his house and shows her his pet monkey (Fez and all that, tiny monke). He also then shows her his disfigured face and reveals to her that her royal family did this. Maybe he's her discarded brother/true heir to the throne or something. She is shocked by the revelation. Main hero is the prince (actor similar to Jason London in my memory, but looking through his filmography I could not find it). He talks to the princess about this Phantom guy, but ultimately the princess is super depressed. A scene I recall fairly well is her sitting on the window and saying "When it's raining no one can see that I am crying." and then jumps off to her death. The prince later brings her body to the king and/or queen (the more I think about it, it may as well be ONLY the queen, as she is for sure a character).
The city keeps flooding with heavy rain
Climactic battle is the Phantom barricaded in some house, and the royal guards are trying to knock the door down, while the Phantom is taking them out... WITH A REGULAR SLINGSHOT from the top window of the house. And cackling like the joker while he does it. The guards get hit and fall into the canal.
The prince grabs a knife/sword or something and slides down some rain drains and stabs the Phantom. The Phantom's final words are something like "THIS. ISN'T. FUNNY." as he was cackling earlier.
Final scene is after the rain has stopped and city unflooded, the Prince says to the queen that he plans to go travel the world and asks her permission or just notifies her expecting her to be mad. And the queen replies with "You are a man now and may do as you please." showing that there was character development? He then rides out of the town on a horse.
Any help is appreciated.
Edited by Shirokurouresolved the world around you is not what it seems Western Animation
I'm looking for the intro of a cartoon that either starts with the line "the world around you is not what it seems" or "the world around us is not what it seems" and might end the second line with dreams. I know that is not a lot but it's all I got
Edited by dutchguy1986resolved Kids' movie where orphans adopt a dog, then are adopted and must hide it from their new parents
I believe the orphans were sisters. They're taken from the orphanage by a well-off couple that's met them a few times before and moves them into their swanky No Animals Allowed apartment in New York. I think the movie ends with the landlord deciding to make just one exception to the policy after the dog foils some sort of crime.
resolved Charity as a Disease Literature
It was a short story about a pair of doctors who discovered a virus that made people more likely to be charitable, like how toxoplasmosis makes rats more likely to be friendly with cats (who would then eat the rats). For example, the infected would be more likely to work at homeless shelters, donate to the poor, or *go to a blood drive*. They're just about ready to publish, when an extremely deadly, yet unrelated, disease breaks out and kills one of the doctors. The other doctor decides not to publish, because the charity virus is the only reason the hospitals are getting enough blood, but also a badge saying that, if he gets hurt, not to give him any blood. The story ends there.
I'd greatly appreciate to find the title and author, please.
resolved Nu metal song that uses nursery rhymes in the lyrics Music
I remember my dad playing this nu metal song when I was little. It was a Korn-esque song that uses dark nursery rhymes like Ring Around the Rosie in its lyrics, interspersed with some screaming lyrics I can't remember. Does anybody know what I'm talking about?
resolved Tetsuo and a Bluebird of Happiness? [FOUND] Literature
Hey guys, I'm trying to find a fiction book that I read years ago. From what I remember, the plot was set in Japan. The main character is a game otaku who is dangerously close to becoming a hikikomori, and his online handle is Tetsuo. He meets a girl in real life and she is trying to find the Bluebird of Happiness. So, the guy and girl try to find the bluebird together and the guy learns to not be online all the time and appreciate the outside world. I also distinctly remember the first line of the book being "I press the A button, and I'm Tetsuo."
Edited by PKLpikachuresolved Animated Film about Ancient Greece/Rome (Solved) Film
In middle school, we watched an animated film about either the Greek or Roman empire (Probably the latter.) I didn’t see much of it, just the beginning. The opening scene has stuck in my mind ever since.
It begins going through the woods, passing several posts with deer skulls attached to them. It then arrives at a group of tribal men (Probably Celts) gathered around a fire, all dressed in robes and wearing deer skulls. The leader then begins to list off various injustices committed by the Empire against them. The leader finished by stating the worst thing the Greeks/Romans have done to them; cutting off everyone in the tribe's right hand. They then all raise their arms to show all their right hands missing.
After this, the film begins properly, focusing on a Roman/Greek man and his slave. I remember him describing each character as he met him.
Edited by datadoggieeinresolved Movie... Film
I remember seeing a trailer for an (chinese?) fantasy action movie. I think it contained magic.
What was most notable, is that multiple characters, who have been captured by the opposing side, have been bound by the wrists and suspended in the air.
Does anyone have a clue?
