i do also remember a Chekov's gun Chalk item
resolved silkworm humans Literature
a short(?) story about a group of human girls that had been imprisoned & genetically modified to act as sort of giant silkworms for someone (the government? freelancing evil scientists? i don't recall that part). the silk came out of their fingers & was a different color for everyone; there was a detail about how everyone tried to guess which color theirs would be and always guessed wrong, but the color was always "personal" to them (idk how to word this part). the silk had to be extruded with a machine. one girl committed suicide by not using the machine for weeks until the silk built up inside her and choked her. the story ended by the girls wrapping up the guards/officials of the place they were at with silk to kill them, like spiders, and then building themselves cocoons to become Something New, which was left for the reader to imagine.
i think this was in an anthology, but i might be remembering wrong and it was standalone, or even longform. i read it on kindle a couple of years ago.
resolved Boy in Video Game, French animation Western Animation
As the intro went, the protagonist was a boy playing a Zelda-like game in the middle of a storm before his babysitter arrives, a lightning strucks and he switches places with the hero. Now he has to beat the game in order to get out, while the hero gets mistaken by a very obsessed him cosplaying and pretending to be a hero.
Every episode was a different video game-like thing. I think this was French and from the same studio that did At-Choo and Gawayn?
resolved Stay look at me, or I'll disappear. Film
Hello, comrades! I remember a horror movie, where a group of young people found themselves in some abandoned mansion or motel, and this place had an ominous feature: a person, who was not in anyone's field of vision, will be disappeared. Those, who guessed what is going on here, were forced to keep an eye on each other.
Edited by treluxeresolved Cryptid newspaper book
I'm looking for a book I remember reading in middle school. From what I remember, it was a collection of headlines from a fake newspaper about various Cryptids and Conspiracies. Anyone know what I'm talking about?
resolved A 2d point-and-click adventure flash game that ends with the player hitting an old woman in the head Videogame
I'm copying and pasting from this reddit forum because it's sound like the same game im trying to find.
-
- Platform: Online flash game.
- Genre: Point and click adventure
- Estimated year of release: can’t be later than 2015
- Graphics/art style: 2D, cartoonish, lots of dark colors, mostly blacks and greys. Everything seems all worn down and abandoned in my memory. Imagine a set from Courage the Cowardly in grayscale.
- Notable characters:
You play as a small black gremlin-thing. Imagine Scratchy from the Simpsons but with the height, proportions, and handless arms of a Power Puff Girl. I don’t think it ever made any facial expressions, it was just kind of cross eyed. I’m not entirely sure whether or not there was some sort of villain protagonist situation going on or not.
There were these enemies, they were these kind of ape-like blobs made of shadow. You either had to avoid them or shine light on them, and they’d turn into these cute little teddy bears in the light. At one point you use a flashlight on one blocking your path.
This old woman, in a pink nightgown I think, was at the end. I think killing her was your goal the whole time, but it came as a kind of surprise. I don’t know if she deserved it or not. It’s like it’s blocked from my memory.
- Notable gameplay mechanics: there was of course the light shining. I think you had to hide before hitting the old woman.
- Other details: This game feels like a dream, I was on a road trip with family and we’d stopped at somebody’s house and they let me play on the computer.

I been looking for this game for a while and i don't if i broke any rule here by copy and pasting.
resolved Unknown YA novel about a valley of hidden people who get invaded. Literature
- YA novel from the '80s possibly early '90s. Maybe even late 70s.
- Characters are Hobbit like almost and live in a hidden valley.
- A tribe of vicious Invaders come over and through their mountains and invade them. Their enemies use poison Spears and make you some mushrooms a lot both as food and as antidote.
- At one point the characters make a hot air balloon and explore outside their valley.
- Some of the young characters are captured by the Invaders and this is how they discover the information about the mushrooms.
- The book had a fair number of illustrations demonstrating what the characters were working on.
- Early part of the book focuses on the sort of bucolic rural lifestyle of the people.
- Possibly post-apocalyptic and a pseudo fantasy setting.
- I have only seen it in hardcover.
- Publish no later than the mid-90s.
resolved "Vs. Zoe and Mr. Lobster"? Videogame
On this countdown of boss themes
, number 8 is a theme titled "Vs. Zoe and Mr. Lobster", however the list doesn't mention what game it is from (or any game really besides number 9). I have no clue where this is from, and searching for it turns up anything but the music. Does anyone know what game this is from.
resolved Foreign psychological/crime show Live Action TV
It's a swedish/finish noir-ish show it takes place in the winter there's a cop looking for a killer they bring in a cop/detective from a different area to help the female cop/detective. He gets a red coat at one of the department stores in the town. There's an old killer(he's probably 60-70yrs old) who is locked up in a mental institution and the sister of one of his previous victims works at that institution (no one knows who she is) with a big black orderly ? In one episode the sister and the orderly ? are sparring in a small gym not sure if it's a part of the institution. It only had 1 season and was on Netflix for awhile then removed (I think some point between 2016-2022) I think it had the word "Dead" in the title but it isn't "Deadwind". I've been wanting to go back and watch it for a year or so on and off but can't find or remember it. I'll add more details if I remember any.
Edited by Verticalswamp445resolved Webcomic about a world working with board game mechanics Webcomic
I don't remember many things about this webcomic. I know that a new person becomes a member in this strange world that operates of boardgame logic, like Risk with greater depth. It was very much a war game with this new person introducing new ways of warfare and alliances. I distinctly remember a vampire faction that might have allied with the main protagonist, and some form of behind the scenes tech wizards? Pretty sure I read this sometime between 2015 and 2020, but there was a significant backlog so it's definitely older than that.
Found it. It was Erfworld.
Edited by Chthuneresolved Children's book with a certain tagline Literature
There's a children's book (a series I think) with a Tagline along the lines of "Are they kids? Grownups? The answer is magic!"
I think they were chapter books, but for elementary schoolers (like Magic Tree House or Junie B. Jones)
resolved side scrolling horror game Videogame
I saw a let's play of this game, I think it was Markiplier who played it but I forgot which video. It was a side-scrolling horror game set in a decrepit futuristic setting. You play as a sentient suit of cybernetic armor, and the human wearing you is dying so you're trying to find help for them.
resolved Retro game Style Tax Commercial Western Animation
It's a recent ad that I have seen time to time, I don't remember the beggining of the ad, but it's about a girl who defeats a monster that says, "All your Rebate are belong to me," or something like that and the girl throws a tv at the monster turning it into coins. It's a realitively recent ad but I can't find it one bit and I want to look for it. Does anyone know what this is?
resolved Film about two ManicPixieDreamGirls dating each other Film
I believe its mentioned on the page about two Manic Pixie Dream Girls who date each other rather then a boy. Its about artists in Italy.
resolved Film where two brothers kidnap a man Film
Saw it in the early 90s. Two brothers (I think one of them may have been mildly retarded or autistic) kidnap a rich man with the intention of holding him for ransom. But the brothers are orphans, and they start to see the man they kidnapped as a father figure (in a variation on Lima Syndrome).
The movie was obviously based on a play, since the entire film (IIRC) takes place in a single room.
resolved Alien Email Penpal Literature
When I was in, I want to say 5th grade, I remember reading a book about a brother and sister becoming penpals over email with an alien, and towards the end, when they decide to meet up at a burger chain (I believe it was Fatburger), the alien was wearing very 90s clothing and cracking jokes about his home planet that none of the people at the restaurant understood. I can't remember the name of the book, though, but I remember that it was all text; no images. Does anybody know what this book is?
resolved Animated movie about a secret agent kakapo/green bird? Western Animation
I remember an animated movie, from 7 years ago or earlier. Probably earlier. I wasn't paying too much attention to it because I found it boring then, but now I want to watch it and can't find it. It had something to do with eggs from an endangered species, the main characters had to get them. There were humans in the movie. I think there was a bad guy, but I don't know who.
I particularly remember a silly kakapo/another similar green bird sneaking around a ship (I THINK it was a ship, but I can't really remember the setting) while singing to himself "secret agent [bird name that ends with o], secret agent [bird name that ends with o]" or something similar. I do believe it was really a kakapo because of the last letter and because it's endangered, but I'm not sure. Might have been a parrot, though.
Other details that I'm not sure were in this movie but I think might have happened are A) a kid was one of the main characters and had a bird sidekick (probably the green bird?) and B) there was a penguin or puffin at one point. I assume he/she could talk too and was with the good guys.

There was this one episode of Space Cases from season 2 that I only remember one scene from, but it stuck in my head for some reason, so I want to know. All I remember is that a couple characters (I think Suzee and the other girl) had to drink some really unpleasant liquid (I forget what it was and why they had to do this, again it's a really vague memory) and I think Suzee volunteers to do so on the grounds that she's older. Again, sorry for being so vague, but it's something I only saw once about 30 years ago (I'm not even sure if I saw the whole episode or not.)
