resolved No Title Film
I saw it on television. It looked like a film but might have been part of a series of made-for-TV film.
It was many years ago, probably early to mid 1990s. I only saw a few minutes of it. The setting appeared to be an English boys' school where the boys wore uniforms. The boys spoke in with a British accent. One boy bullied by other boys, and the bullies had put a sign on his back with the word "biter". The victim was unaware of the sign on his back, walking through the corridors when another boy suddenly asked, "Is your name Biter?" and the victim boy didn't know what he was talking about until he was told of the sign on his back.
I only saw this one scene, I remembered it for many years because I thought it seemed so ridiculous. When I watched this as a boy, I thought it seemed a very odd thing for a bully to do, and I also thought another boy would be a fool to think that the kid's name was Biter and he was wearing his name on his back.
resolved No Title Film
A Singaporean film set in the 60s where a poor child has to win third place in a marathon just to win a pair of running shoes. Watched this in school three or four years ago.
resolved No Title Film
I am trying to remember the name of an obscure children's film about a boy who gets trapped inside of a board game by a mad scientist in order to teach him a lesson about responsibility. The most memorable thing about this film is that the parts that happened in the real world were in live action while the parts in the board game were in stop motion animation. I think that the name of the film (or at least the name of the game in the film) was something like "Humania" or "Whomania" but I don't remember very well. It probably was made during the 90's or 80's. I want to know what the exact name is because it provides a good example of a few of my favorite tropes.
Edited by legendaryweredragonresolved Movie where they cut out all references to something in some release. Film
This is a weird one but I remember reading in some book about stupid things people did (I no longer have the book unfortunately) and it talked about some movie that when it was released somewhere (I forget where) they made them remove all references to something (again, I forget what) after which the film made no sense whatsoever. Anyone know what movie this was talking about

A black-and-white film I saw on UK telly somewhere between 1990 and 1994, although I'm pretty certain it was American.
It starts with a record spinning on a player, and I think it ends the same way. There's a girl who is playing the star in the nativity, and all she needs as her costume is a pair of sneakers (there- it must've been American, I specifically remember her saying "sneakers" not "trainers")
As she's moving the star across the sky, she slips on a pipe or something and falls down, possibly knocking part of the set down.
Years later, a family knocks on the door asking to use the phone as their car has broken down and the children are late for the nativity- some in costume and one in a pair of sneakers. The original girl may or may not have died in the years between. I really can't remember.
Tried asking my mum about this, because I do remember crying over it later that night when I first watched it, but she doesn't remember it at all.
Thanks everyone!
resolved Nautical adventure with leg amputation Film
Trying to identify a movie set in the days of Wooden Ships and Iron Men. It's in colour, but not recent: certainly older than 1980, probably quite a bit older.
What I remember about it is that there's a scene quite late in the movie where one of the characters has to have his leg amputated at sea, and there's some fuss about it because the only person available to do the amputation has never done one before. There's a subsequent scene where he walks out to show off his new wooden leg, and it's the leg of a table that was in the cabin where the amputation was done.
resolved Movie about American Folk Tales Film
This was a live action movie I saw sometime between 2009-2011. It takes place in America in the 1800s. The Kid Hero must protect a deed from a villainous businessman named Stiles. He calls on the help of various characters from American folk tales, like Paul Bunyan. The climax takes place in an old mine shaft or train tunnel, which collapses, killing Stiles.
resolved About kidnappers in a modern urban setting Film
A friend showed me this film in about the year 2009. I think it was fairly new at the time (it seemed pretty modern so I'm guessing it came out at least after the year 2000). I don't remember much specific about it but it was almost certainly R-rated. It took place in an urban setting. At least one of the characters was a child, I think. I think there was a mother whose child had been kidnapped. Or maybe she herself was kidnapped. She tried to escape and was frantically going through the house of the kidnappers. She found evidence that the kidnappers (a married couple I believe) had abducted children and then killed them, and recorded it for snuff films. She found a trove of these films in a closet or something, and was of course appalled. I think she pointed a gun at the kidnapper and was fearful, but he wasn't aggressive towards her. Instead he was apologetic and he and his wife both admitted they had done something wrong and they needed help. The woman took a child with her and escaped the kidnappers. I also have a vague recollection of an outdoor (urban) scene at night, possibly with lights reflecting off a wet road. What's so memorable to me about this is that my friend told me that this movie was supposed to be a retelling of the Alice in Wonderland story, modernized of course. It was clear that it wasn't meant to be a literal adaptation, but more like how O Brother Where Art Thou is a modern retelling of The Odyssey. Maybe very loosely based on the source material and only sharing some of the themes. I thought at the time that the film seemed violent and depressing (although I don't remember any on-screen violence, just that it was implied with the child murders and all).
resolved Film with DisastrousDemonstration where AIIsACrapshoot scene... Film
What Live Action Film has a Disastrous Demonstration where A.I. Is a Crapshoot, due to the AI being made from (a criminal's / criminals') mind(s)...?
And I think it has, or had, an article on The Other Wiki...
resolved [Solved] Indie film about a hotel with a haunted room = Film.Appetite Film
I remember this indie / art film from the late Eighties to early Nineties about this hotel in London or thereabouts, which had this one room where a murder / suicide occurred. It was closed off afterward, and became a kind of legend among the hotel staff. The hotel also has this one morose chef who goes on a drug binge every month or so, and creates oodles of elaborate desserts, far beyond what the guests and staff can possibly consume. Anyone remember this peculiar but nondescript film?
Edited by oneuglybunnyresolved Metal eating monster in medieval fantasy that turns gigantic Film
I remembered way back sometime between 1997-1999 on the Disney Channel they aired a movie involving a teenage boy who finds a creature (who is a little bigger than a kitten at first) which eats iron and other metal things which in doing so causes the creature to grow bigger. I didn't get to see how it ended, but the last bit I did see was when the boy looking on, in an "OMG what have I done!" matter, at the creature (now by this point about four stories tall or taller) fighting knights at a castle.
resolved Puppet used to frame midget for serial killings Film
This might sound a little weird but I remeber watching something on SBS. I don't remember if it was a movie or a tv show or if it was in English but it was live action
- The main character is looking into an old serial killer case
- At one point he finds a life sized puppet of a midget that was used to make it look like a midget was running away from the murders and frame the midget for the crime. The midget had a history of drunkness and violence.
- The main character connects the killings to lines in childrens book or poem. One of the victims was a farmer who got stabbed with a flute or similar instrument. He realises that this connects to line about a farmer working with his instrument and the killer didn't understand that instrument could refer to a tool. He then realises that the killer was a child because they wouldn't be able to understand that and it us why a midget was framed - to match up with the child height stabbing and wittness accounts.
- He then finds out it was a friend of his that was the murderer and the friend's father was behind the frame up
resolved [Solved] Weird movie Film
I remember seeing the ending of this film from HBO, where this little girl and her babysitter, I think?, were being chased by a horde of barbie dolls...weird I know. Though the dolls were not at all moving, they were just placed around the place. When they were trapped in the closet the sitter was comforting the girl, but her eyes were changing like the barbie dolls. The scene changes with the parents saying good night to their daughter, when they leave she goes to a glass case of her dolls and tells them that they've been very bad and that she's giving them someone to watch them, which happens to be the her sitter as a doll.
Anyone else know or have heard of this film?
Edited by Animaltamerresolved The ghost of a father, his driver seeking help from his son to catch their murderer Film
I remember that movie have the main characters to be a rich man and his driver/best friend that were kill by another member of his company. The man loved his pre-teen/teenage son a lot but their relationship was somewhat distant. When the two men died, they became ghost and discovered that the man's golden egg box has recorded his murder, ghosts could appear on TV for a few seconds to talk with the living before the TV exploded and could teleport to wherever they want by just thinking about it. Not to mention the driver discovered his girlfriend has moved on immediately after his death much to his chagrin and there was a strange man who could talk to both of them directly.
They managed to contact the son, who was be able to recovered the stolen egg from a kleptomaniac female relative. The bad guy confronted the boy but he was stopped when the latter put his VR game headgear on the former. In the virtual space, the two ghosts confronted the murderer and he fell backward into his death through the window/balcony. The ghosts said goodbye to the boy, father and son confirmed their love for each other before the ghosts left. They met both the ghost of the bad guy and the strange man who was some kind of grim reaper or angel. Through a public bench, the murderer was sent to hell while the two men, sitting on the bench, filed to heaven.
resolved diary scene? Film
There was a scene in a movie that I saw in the 2000s, a flashback with voiceover, maybe someone reading a diary entry? And the narrating voiceover was the voice of the writer. It showed her as a teen sitting in a classroom; she and this other girl are stealing glances at each other, and in the voiceover she reminisces that Other Girl had beautiful hands. Then it shows her and Other Girl (or maybe it was a different girl?) holding hands in front of her parents, who are yelling because they don't approve of homosexuality.
I thought it was from The Reader, but that can't be right. So maybe it was from another German movie?
resolved Black-and-White Movie about Ghost Lady; Horror Comedy probably (SOLVED) Film
So, there's this movie that's black and white (so it should be from the middle of the 20th century). It's basically about these group of people in a house investigating a murder of a lady and who murdered her. One of the characters is able to see and communicate with the ghost of this lady.
One of my favorite jokes from this film is the officers showing the corpse of the dead lady to another lady (this one being the lady the murderer was planning on killing) and asking her if she recognized her. She then of course freaks and faints. XD
One running joke from this film I remember is the one black dude in the entire cast continuously sitting in a chair in a certain position. This chair then sent him underneath the house into a water tunnel (sewer?) somewhere and having a slapfight with a seal.
Edited by TropeFanaticFanresolved Late 80s-Early 90s Drama Christian-themed film (Home video only?) Film
In middle school several years ago, one of the tapes one of my classes watched was a drama Christian-themed movie, which might be on video only. It's about two teenagers or young adults who are in love, but I don't remember the conflict, perhaps the young woman has poor faith in God or Jesus. I think there is a church scene with a prayer or other speech spoken. Then there's a scene where the two characters are in a car and one of them is driving recklessly in a curvy road or whatever. Maybe one of them tries to tell the other to stop that driving behavior. The car crashes and both of them die. The young man goes to heaven while the young woman goes to hell and maybe the devil can be heard as well as the sight of darkness and fire. The hell scene was pretty scary to me.
resolved Thriller-type movie Film
I caught part of this film on Starz (either just the regular channel or a spinoff) while relaxing in a hotel a few days ago, and I would have caught the name if the schedules on the DVR were correct. Best as I could tell, it was a thriller film about a girlfriend and boyfriend being chased by this scary dude and the police, because they were framed/blamed for killing people when it was actually the scary dude.
One scene had them trying to sneak past the cops (New Mexico police, I think), but the guy got caught until the girl pulled a revolver (probably from one of the cops) and made the cop holding her boyfriend let him go, but then the scary dude shows up, there's a gunfight with one or two cops getting killed (by the dude), and the couple takes the squad car and runs away. They get into an argument with the Sheriff over the car's radio, and are being chased by a ton of police until the scary dude shows up again in a busted-up black Pontiac while "Closer" by Nine Inch Nails plays during the sequence, and the guy runs the cops off the road and then maybe the couple.
The last bit I remember was that the couple managed to hide out in a motel, they're staying in separate rooms, the girl's in a shirt and underwear, then she's attacked by the scary dude again, fends him off, goes outside, and discovers that her boyfriend is bound, gagged, and chained up to a semi truck and a trailer.
The scary dude is in the cab and driving the truck, threatening to pull the dude apart, the girl pulls the revolver on the dude, but he says that he wants to die and that if she shoots him, his foot will fall off the clutch and the boyfriend will likely die. But then the cops showed up, and that's about the point where I had to leave the room for the day's activities.
I have tried looking this film up on IMDB by keyword, but either this film is super-recent, or it's too obscure to have all the relevant keywords applied to it.
resolved Little Buddha and Dog Food Film
So there was this movie with lots of things thrown together: - Some child that was the Buddha reincarnation... all wise, snark and with some powers as to alter lottery drawings (only mentioned), he wast sting with his miracles I guess - Some greed reporter lady that had to shelter him... - His guardian, a monk with had two running gags about falling from the window (with the window frame) eating cans of pet food on a regular basis...

Solved thanks to Bernd - it is Black Serenade
A non-English slasher movie set at a university (I think I watched it on SBS so I’m not sure what the original language was). Some of the parts of the movie:
- Movie starts with a girl coming in late to test in morgue and there are cheat notes written on the underside of the cadaver she is dissecting. Killer comes in a black cloak and dragging a knife along the metal dissection tables then kills her
- One of the characters is captured by the killer in an ally and tied to stake and set on fire. The other characters find her but due to the fire are unable to get close enough to rescue her.
- At the end, the murderer is revealed to the main character/Final Girl who enrolled in university to kill students who cheat on tests.
