openSolved: French? Language comic of the early 2000s Print Comic
I’m pretty sketchy on the details, but I seem to remember reading a scanlated comic that I believe I read on Mangafox at the time. I think it was originally in French and had a supernatural school setting, a sort of Hogwarts-sequel feel, but if it were for college age students. There were lots of characters but I think one of the main characters was a werewolf. Updates dried up around an arc that involved the school having to close/ some sort of crisis. At the time, I felt like it was a unique story and take on the genre and very contemporary, urban youth in aesthetic.
I believe some characters were dating each other and having more “adult” relations, but I don’t think it was a smut comic; just that the characters were of the age where that is just a normal aspect of relationships, so I think the intended audience skewed higher than 12-16. I can’t quite recall as it’s been so long, but I think it’s was a print comic bc I remember running across a very marked up graphic novel of the series on Amazon in the 2012-4 year range. It wasn’t in English, but I would have gotten it if I had the money back then:/ C’est la vie, as they say.
I could be wrong about some of the details: I used to frequent a lot of scanlator group websites back then, so it’s possible I read it on a defunct website reader. I don’t seem to have bookmarked it on Mangafox, but I think it was deleted due to copyright reasons, so I may have removed it afterwards. Any assistance would be appreciated!
Edit: I believe it was Freaks’ Squeele. I randomly found it on the Franco Belgian page! Looking at the tropes page made me feel more certain and finding it posted on another website and taking a look at the main art rather than cover art cinched it.
Edited by JustneedtoaskaquestionopenSuper villain jail Print Comic
There was this comic I found at the library about a guy who found himself in a supervillain prison. It wasn't part of the Marvel universe or the DC universe. As a matter of fact, I believe that it wasn't taking place in any pre-established comics universe. I didn't read more than a few pages at the time, but the general vibe of it was pretty dark stuff.
Edited by MichaelKatsuroopenYouTube video about the current state of animation. Web Original
I remember a few years ago I watched a video on You Tube talking about the current state of modern animated movies. This was an English video, I might say American English, and was released between or after the hate-train that was the Emoji Movie (So, 2016-2017). I remember specifically that it was a video in the style of the Krusty Krab Training Video. I vividly remember that the beginning of the video was a parody of the Emoji Movies trailer (and the whole film in general) where instead of emojis there were Grey blobs and a product placement robot. The intro parody was called "The generic movie" if I remember correctly. The title was along the lines of "How to make your own modern animated movie" or something.
open[SOLVED] Anime About Girl Who Can Grant Miracles Anime
This is now solved thanks to a troper who helped identify this as Someday's Dreamers, and I appreciate all who helped!
My family and I had this cd(?) of an anime with several episodes, maybe a season, when I was younger that for the life of me I cannot remember what it's called.
Here's what I remember the clearest:
The artstyle makes me think it was made after the 80's. I watched it as a child in the late 2000's, so it could have been made anytime from 1990's to before 2010? Setting-wise, I can't remember anything that would date the movie but what I do remember is that it was set in the city
The main character was a brunette young adult/older teenager who was able to "grant wishes", so she can make things others wish for come true. I put that in quotation marks because I'm not sure if that was how the anime worded it, but it's the closest I can describe it.
She befriends an older man with black hair and glasses(?) who knows of her gift and may or may not have magical abilities as well. He has a tragic backstory in which he has a Lost Lenore who died in a car accident
The overall tone of the anime was melancholic — the intro (something I remember the tune to, but obviously can't recreate to share here) had sad piano to it and many shots of characters introspective and emoting little
There was this third character of a woman with short, blonde hair and might have been cold and stoic?
I can't distinguish whether or not these were different episodes but here's what I remember in-show:
One of the first episodes featured the Main character granting a guy friend a bunch of snack bars, and since they start magically sprouting from his vest/coat, the friend reacts negatively (I'm also assuming he was being exaggerative and she didn't know better?)
One episode had her go to a club but the girl is disoriented and confused as to her surroundings?
I clearly remember a scene where the girl grabs a floating balloon from the grasps of a young boy next to his mother. But when the girl gives it back to the boy, the balloon suddenly pops and he cries. The mother then demands the girl to make her son feel better and then says something along the lines of "can't you grant wishes??"
There's this one scene where the girl is caught in the rain in a park (?) so she hides under something and finds a cat (that I think I remember being able to talk but I doubt that?)
In an episode, there's a flashback to how the guy lost his wife, which she felt cold so he (the driver) took off his jacket and gave it to her, while still driving. Another vehicle hit them in his moment of recklessness, and he cradles her in the middle of the street as she's dying/dead. I remember snowflakes falling afterwards and I think it has to do with his powers, but I could be wrong
Anyways I remember some things but none of my searches for this one specific anime had been successful in identifying it

openCar impounded at garage with trans woman Live Action TV
Fifteen/Twenty-so years ago, I remember seeing a scene where a man goes in a garage (named "(name) and Sons") to retrieve his impounded car. The two main points of the scene were:
- One of the "and Sons" was a trans woman; at some point she's seen repainting the garage's sign to "(name) and Co." — Given how old this was, the portrayal may not have been respectful (IIRC it was kind of played for laughs).
- She was manning the desk when the car's owner came in. Since the impound fee was more than the car was worth, and the car would be auctioned off if he didn't pay, the owner decided to let the car be auctioned off and buy it then. She let him sign the form before pointing to the (big, hard-to-miss) sign that says "IT IS ILLEGAL TO BUY YOUR OWN CAR IN AN AUCTION". The owner then asks his friend to straw-purchase it.
openWeezer song Music
I only remember the music video for it.
It was basically about the band with a female lead singer being a total diva with the actual singer being her Beleaguered Assistant. Eventually the rest of the band kicks her out and the guy ends up taking her place, the video ends on their merch being modified to add an "R" to the bands' name to get "Weezer".
open(SOLVED) Kids short stories, set at a school where spernatural things happen (NOT wayside) Literature
A while ago (grade 3 or 4) I read this book. The book is a collection of short stories happening at a certain school (no, not Wayside School) that all involve kids learning a moral through magic stuff. I remember four chapters:
1. Some girl has mastered cutting in lines. But then she gets this weird curse where whenever she tries to cut she end us up at the end, and eventually finds out that being last (or nearly last) has its advantages.
2. Some girl hates taking tests. Gets assigned (secret agent style) to be the test tester, so she grades how good the test questions are. Agent Moe (eeney, meanie, miney, moe) makes an appearence.
3. Some boy is assigned to clap out the erasers. Chalk dust genie appears, gives him three wishes. Standard “be careful what you wish for”.
4. Some kid (don’t remember if boy or girl) finds hidden attic with “cool old guy” inside. He explains to them that there’s some special formula that makes school “special” (causing the kind of funny coincidences that happen at school). He made an extra-strength version, and that’s why all the supernatural stuff has been happening. No moral, just tying the stories together. (Or the lesson is “school is cool”)
There might be a sequel, but I’m not sure.
Edited by sRAMrelevratopenDog themed flash game site? Videogame
I used to play on a website that had a dog themed mascot I think. On each side of the sceeen when you visited it there was a nature-themed pattern or photo like leaves or rocks and the photo changed every time you refreshed. Some of the games were fetch (where you could pick a bone, ball, toy, frisbee, etc) to throw to a dog who would run after it. Another one was a mining or ancient Egypt game where you had to look around in the dark for gems or the exit. There was also a postcard or birthday card maker where you could pick a background and stickers with different themes.
openLooking for the name of a “Looney Tunes” cartoon. Western Animation
What’s the name of the “Looney Tunes” cartoon where Daffy accidentally rips a tag off of a junked mattress, runs, checks into a motel, and ends up sharing a room with a bank robber. I’ve looked everywhere. The cartoon is described on the “Mattress Tag Gag” page but the name of the cartoon is not listed. I’m beginning to think it’s not Daffy and that it’s actually Donald, but I’m not for sure. I’ve looked through every Daffy, Donald, and Porky cartoon, but no information.
open80's TV Episode, similar to Twilight Zone/Groundhog Day Live Action TV
Hi there,
During 80's (mid to late, could be very early 90's), I watched an episode about a trucker who gets lost in the countryside. He's a young fellow with an attitude and in a hurry. He pulls into a town with a small population sign.
He goes to a cafe, tries to get directions to leave town, but the people there tell him to relax and enjoy himself. He has none of it, and just wants to out.
He attempts to leave the town following his map, but all roads lead back to the town, even after hours of driving. The scenes focus on the town sign with the population sign everytime he returns. He gets more and more frustrated, but the roads always lead to the same town and same cafe with the the old fellows relaxing.
Eventually he's exhausted, he decides to join in, making peace that he can never leave. He looks happy with that decision; so even though he's trapped in the town, he's come to realise he's been living at too fast of a pace. A new trucker comes into the cafe, asking how he can leave. The newly enlightened young guy just tells him to relax, as the new trucker leaves in a huff. Afterwards, at the end of the episode, shows the population sign increase by one.
I had the 1980 Twilight Zone DVD set, this episode was not on it, though I could have sworn this was a Twilight Zone episode. I couldn't find an Amazing Stories episode with this premise either. It was very remincent of Groundhog day before the movie came out; perhaps lyrically similar to Hotel California.
I believe the episode name may have been the name of the town.
Can anybody help find this TV Series and episode?
openTrying to find childhood favorite comic? Webcomic
For the comic, I only vaguely remember one scene and one character, but no names. The character I remember had black hair, different colored eyes, and a wolf tail. He normally wore pants, a shirt, and a vest over it. The scene was the young girl he was protecting ran away to try and make it on her own after an argument with him. He also flirted with a fox character. I used to always find the link off of the site from the comic Off White, but that's been taken down since and I no longer have it bookmarked as my old computer is completely fried.
openThree Christmas specials, and a Flying Dog. Western Animation
Hello, fellow tropers! Today, I've decided to use my account again because I'm looking for four things.
The first one is a Christmas special that I remember seeing when I was young. The art style was like those traditional 70's-80's cartoons. It was about these five colourful, yet slightly unpleasing to look at (?) Gremlins seeking to ruin Christmas. They unfold their plan by keeping all the Reindeer up by making alot of noise; thus they grew weary when it's time for Santa to deliver presents. I don't remember anymore, but it has a good ending (I think they become Elf or something.).
2.) Another (animated) Christmas special. It's about this puppy and kitten that swap places with elves while waiting to perform in a talent show. I think it premiered in the 70's? The moral was the scrappy, drawn out, "most people don't have what you have, so don't be greedy."
3.) Don't remember much. I think it was Italian, 60's, animated—-with the story of these farm animals gaining the ability to talk, so they can spread the word about Baby Jesus. Their judgement is that they should not be like humans, and they they're better than the selfish ways of humanity (not my words).
4.) A CGI show about this dog that flies by using his ears, travels around the world along side a cat (?) and a bird (??).
Any help is welcome ! :)
Edited by RehydratedFortuneopenLive-action animated series/episode Live Action TV
I'm guessing the show was from the late 90s up until the mid 2000s. It probably was either a Fox Kids or Jetix series, but I saw it in Greece, so I can't be sure. It apparently featured two parallel universes, one animated, the other live-action. I only remember one scene from it.
The scene goes like this: two women are on theater stage or something similar but are being controlled by strings like puppets. Every time the live-action woman pulls down the strings, the animated woman's arms go up, and vice-versa. Once the scene (dream?) ends, both women talk to some guy (maybe their brothers) about what happened.
Thanks in advance. I'm sorry I don't remember anything else.
open[Resolved] Bécassine le trésor viking Western Animation
There's this VHS animated film that I need to know the name of. Even though I almost memorized the summary, IMDB search and forum was of no help. It has no fantastical elements, not very comedic and had art quality of 90's Disney.
In a british/french city, starting with a scene of family taking a photo at the autumn park, the parent leave somewhere and leave their two children to a hired maid.
Soon two bandits go for the kids, and nanny KO them using an umbrella like spring from the stairs. Then they decided to go look for the parents and thugs follow them.
There's this scene on the train where the girl's foot hurts, so the nanny suggests putting a piece of newspaper into the shoe.
The co arrives in a snowy region. They go through the forest and nanny says "you'll freeze sooner if you go slowly". They find a circus, rent a hot air balloon and descend into an ice cave where the parents were.
