openMusic video: 1980s song, convertible in the desert, hat thrown on the ground Music
I once saw a snippet of a black and white music video (probably from the 1980s, less likely the 1990s). The song was rather in a calm tone.
In the music video, a white man was driving slowly in a car (probably a convertible) through some desert. There is also a scene where, while driving, his hat falls to the ground.
openA song that ended with innocent laughter Music
I vaguely remember that I probably heard the song on You Tube. It was rather beautiful, if I remember correctly, and ended with a child's innocent laugh. I think I also remember a comment about said laugh.
openSamples in a song Music
There's this song called "Living" by a Greek rock band called Transistor that has spoken word samples of a man saying things like "This is the living, living off the dead." and "You can just call me gimpy.", as well as talking about some kind of expensive life-extending therapy. I've been trying to find the source of these samples but to no luck.
Here's the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HwDrFuBgJxM
open[SOLVED] Cutesy French CGI music video from 2000s Music
Somewhere around 15 years ago I watched a music video on MTV (could've been a different music channel, but it was definitely on TV). The song wasn't in English, I think it might've been French? The music was very cheery and upbeat (very ear-wormy too), and the visuals were completely CGI animated. The characters weren't human-proportioned, they were more chibi-shaped, and I don't think there was any plot, they were just dancing around. The setting was outdoors, some kind of island, I think? I remember it being a total Sugar Bowl, very cutesy and pastel-colored.
Does anyone know what I'm talking about? Because I saw another troper asking about music videos and suddenly remembered this pastel nightmare, and now I can't get it out of my head.
Edited by AndarielopenMusic video with sewer and subway Music
This was a music video I saw on TV when I was very young. It would have likely been somewhere between 1999-2002. I think it was likely on a BBC show, but it might have been ITV, or maybe even RTE. The main things I remember were the Bookends, where it began with a group of guys jumping down a manhole, and ending with them jumping back out, my memory might be fuzzy, but I think they jumped with Limited Animation. I also remember a shot of a subway train with them seen in one of the windows, and I feel the song commonly said “Down down down the (word lost to memory)”. It’s been bugging me a ton over the past couple years, and the only Google queries I’ve tried have lead to songs that are way too recent compared to where my memories land.
Edited by TrialmanopenSong about nuclear war Music
I'm looking for the name of a song about a nuclear apocalypse. The lyrics might have something to do with dancing right before the end. The singer is male and may be singing to his wife in the context of the lyrics (they might have children too). It is most likely a popular song. Because of the theme it is most likely from the 1980s.
We believe we have ruled out Alphaville - Forever Young, Ultravox - Dancing With Tears In My Eyes and anything by Kate Bush.
open"I'm So Excited" like an ad for oranges Music
I'm looking for a music video for "I'm So Excited" performed by somebody other than The Pointer Sisters. They were a trio of one Black man and two women. There were oranges everywhere: the male lead starts singing the second(?) verse with oranges in both hands; during one of the refrains the trio drags a billboard with oranges back and forth. I saw it several times over a period of several years in the late 1980s-early 1990s.
Edited by tkzvopenFamiliar Melodies Music
I'm not looking for an actual song per se, but the "origins" of two melodies that I've heard in multiple places.
- The first one is an eight-note mini-melody that can be heard in A Hat in Time as She Came From Outer Space
, and in Storm Hawks as part of the main theme
.
- The second one is a short, six-note tune heard in Power Rangers as part of Go Go Power Rangers
, and Priceline's "No Way" ad as a ringtone
.
openSong from the late 2000s Music
I remember a song that was trending on the radio between 2007 and 2009. Looking through billboard charts and couldn't find what it was. A guy was singing about how he's playing with his band in a garage or basement but he was upbeat about life. He'd also mentioned his girlfriend was in the other room doing laundry or something. Anyone with any idea what this is?
open80s/90s-ish sounding song Music
I’m not sure when it’s from, but the song sounds sort of 80s or 90s and is one of those songs that plays a fair bit at parties. It’s a male singer, and the chorus goes something like, “True love! Through the night…” Sorry this isn’t a lot of details.
openindie / alternative rock band's album is shelved due to executive meddling Music
Maybe around 15 or more years ago, I remember finding a link to a music journalism article online - the article was about a rock band whose album was held up by Executive Meddling, and the inciting incident was apparently the band refusing to record a Cover Version of "All You Need Is Love" for a commercial. I mainly remember this because 1) I think this article might have actually been my first exposure to the idea that Music Is Politics, and 2) not long after I saw a Chase Bank ad that used Nada Surf's version of "All You Need Is Love", making me wonder if that was the ad in question and if Nada Surf had accepted the offer this other band refused. Consulting the other wiki re: Nada Surf's version of "All You Need Is Love", this would have been around 2006.
Edited by MikeKopenSong the played in YouTube ads by a band called The Mummies/The Mummys Music
I don't remember the lyrics, but I do remember the music video, which was a You Tube ad I only ever got once. It was by a band The Mummies or The Mummys. I don't think it was Garage Punk band of the same name or the Funk band Here Come the Mummies, but they could have been. They did dress up as stereotypical Egyptian mummies though, like both of those bands.
The music video hand the members of the band singing the song, while different would focus on different parts of there body.
Edited by datadoggieeinopenRock Song Music
There’s a rock song that was used by the Comedy Network in Canada in a promo for one particular stand-up comedy special. I later heard the song in something else on TV, where I heard the lyric "you can go ahead and kiss my cheek". This could be stock music that’s hard to identify.

openAlbum with a bonus disc that's designed for sharing with friends Music
I was browsing a record store in the mid-2000s when I saw a CD where the packaging advertised an unusual promotional tool the artist decided to use. The album had a "bonus disc" that was just the first few songs on the album again, and a sticker on the case explained that you were supposed to give away the extra disc to a friend, who would hopefully like what they heard enough that they would buy the whole album themselves. Thing is I'm 90% sure this was Begin to Hope by Regina Spektor, but I can't seem to find any evidence online about this version of the album having existed. I am at least pretty sure of the 2000s time frame, and I'm under the impression it was some indie artist's first major label release, which Begin To Hope was for Regina.
openMusic video? Music
I remember seeing a music video at a Dave and Busters but I can't remember anything about the song that goes with it. The plot of the video is that a woman and her daughter are driving but get hit by a truck at the intersection; then time rewinds or something and a member of the band races across the city in order to save them, which he manages to do by running in front of their car before they can pass through the intersection, ensuring that they stop and the truck misses them.
openCover of Mr. Blue Sky Music
Now, I will admit, I am not very good at describing songs compared to other mediums, so this might not get as good of a result, but I will try anyway.
I remember from my childhood this cover of Mr. Blue Sky that seemed to have a less cheerful tone compared to the original, it had a slower piano opening, the opening lyrics started at a slower pace as well, and the ending wasn't quite as long in addition to ending with the lyrics "Mr. Blue Sky why?" being repeated (I think) with no "please turn me over" robot voice at the end.
Edited by KingofNightmares

The video alternate between the female singer singing on stage and the singer in a surgery-like room with doctors doing stuff to her robotic body. Except in the moments where we can see the mechanical insides, the girl looks fully human.
