openChristmas: kids shrink, damage hot air balloon Grandpa gets forest creatures' christmas lists with Western Animation
Grandpa is a mailman who brings animals' Christmas lists to Santa. He lives in a log cabin on top of a hill in a forest clearing. The kids are driven out to visit him at the start of the cartoon; they don't wanna be out in the sticks like this. The kids are brats, a blonde girl w/ a ponytail & a brunette boy (I think). They learn he uses a tiny hot air balloon to fly out through the chimney for getting the forest animals' lists, but he won't give a demonstration for that part, & orders the brother to get out of it when he notices him trying to disobey. After the three unshrink, the grandpa leaves with the parents to do Xmas shopping. The kids use w/e method to re-shrink & check out the balloon they were forbidden to touch, and their squabbling leads to the pet cat trying to kill them (I think because they were mean to it). The balloon casts off so they can escape it, and gets torn. I think the quest becomes fixing the balloon before Grandpa comes back.
There's a family of mice who live in the walls Thumbelina style. The mom mouse was welcoming and I think wore a purple house dress & a frilly apron. I think she chases off the giant longhair cat with a tiny broom. She prepared a snack for the boy and sat him in an armchair. The boy was glad to have the hospitality that the girl avoided. The mood flips when they find out what the kids had done. This part was vivid because as a kid I was *very* sensitive to shifts in the vibe.
I saw this on my grandmother's portable DVD player when I was a toddler ~22 years ago. I believe the art style resembled Grandma Got Ran Over by a Reindeer or Willie the Sparrow (two OTHER $10 Walmart movies she watched with us as little'uns).
Edited by tahutoaresolved Reddit stories about supernatural campground?
I remember i read (on tvtropes) about a serkes of reddit text stories about a campground frequented by eldritch abominations, ghosts, and the fair folk. There was a young girl ghost i think. The main character was a woman who ran the camp, and she eventually became some kind of a supernatural entity herself?
The title had some kind of reference to rules or survival.
openWile E. Coyote canyon gag - is this real? Western Animation
I remember watching an episode of Wile E. Coyote and the Road Runner years ago, where Coyote runs over the cliff as usual, but as he looks back the Road Runner isn't standing there and pointing down to remind Coyote of the fall as he usually does. So instead, Coyote starts to live in the air beyond the edge of the cliff; he has a house made of clouds with cloud furniture, he has a cloud cane, even a cloud beard. One day the doorbell rings and outside stands the Road Runner and points down and suddenly everything dissolves and Coyote falls.
Am I remembering correctly or did I dream this up?
openAPP Witness Protection Book where the protector turns out to be a Mafioso? Literature
I read this book a few years ago, where a girl's parents were murdered by the Mafia or a group like them. The daughter goes into what she thinks is the Witness Protection Program, and the guy she lives with (her handler) moves her around the country. It turns out he's actually part of the Mafia, it was his job to kill her, but he couldn't do it and now he's hiding her from his family.
I think it was YA, but I'm not sure. It's not "The Girl She Used To Be".
resolved Trying to find a country song that my stepdad was playing . Music
Lyrics include "Baby lay your loving on me" and "wanna kiss your lips and tears away." Google didn't show anything.
Edit: Found on You Tube. It's Diamond Rio.
Edited by sassyelliott2403resolved A film about war mercenaries and one losing a leg
I remember a film about a group of mercenaries looking for gold in an asiatic setting, one of them gets shot and, after some days, he got gangrene, so their partners had to amputate it, he feels angry (thinking that his partners want to run with the treasure without him), so a woman decides to give him some sexual pleasure in front of his father... he decides to stay with those people in the end..
Edited by TravsamopenI forgot the name of this VN
Hello, I am trying to find a visual novel that I forgot the name of. I found out about it because it had a page here. I forgot the plot but I remember one of the characters is a gray haired (or was it blonde?) immortal vampire from Eastern Europe and if you didn't date her she'd date another member of your party. I think the main characters were a group of teenagers.
openThe Magic Unicorn (?) Film
I was reminded recently of a movie called The Last Unicorn, which in turn reminded me of a VHS tape my sister had. Probably a mockbuster of The Last Unicorn, maybe called The Magic Unicorn.
The bizarre think about this movie is that it didn't match the VHS box art. The box art looked contemporary, while the film itself looked like it was animation from the 40s (by my estimation as a child.)
So perhaps it was less of a mockbuster and was just an opportunistic rerelease.
And the unicorn in the movie was white, while the unicorn on the box was pink, or vice versa.
It was an Aladin type story about a pauper wooing a princess with the help of a magical being.
I only remember one scene where the pauper had to bathe in a cauldron of boiling water, either as punishment or to prove something, I don't remember why. The unicorn turned the water tepid. But weirdly, it also turned the water rainbow-coloured, which no one somehow noticed.
This would've been the late 80s or early 90s.
openBook about fantasy world with a light based power system Literature
The book is about a tower in a dark world and the inhabitants use light magic and it is ranked according to the light spectrum (with red being the lowest). They also have shadows they can control.
resolved A new year film filled with rock star tropes Film
I am trying to remember about a film that is made in The '70s with a story when a big wild party is built with some blues and rock bands, the things I remember are:
- A big bathroom filled with mess and drugs (even there is a gigantic heroin syringe moving around)
- A blues band composed by orthodox jews that, after the party, end up really messed
- A rock band with a vocalist that leaves the gig to have sex with his groupie (while leaving the drummer to perform a very long drum solo) just to find her having sex with one of the main characters, this leads to some drama and to have the vocalist leaving the gig for good by entering a bathroom when he starts talking with his penis that encourages him to restart from zero.. (while the drummer ends banging the drums with his head)
resolved Children's Picture Book with Man in Wheelchair Literature
It's a children's picture book, but the main character is an adult male. I believe he's a teacher and I think he and the other characters are anthropomorphic animals of some sort, though I wouldn't 100% swear to that. If I had to guess, I wouldn't say it was a very old book either, probably no earlier than the 90s at the earliest. In the story, the character is newly in a wheelchair and somewhat depressed and out of sorts. With help from his students, friends and family, he gets back into his normal routine. Sound familiar to anyone?
openThis song that might have had something to do with Attack On Titan?
I saw a song on youtube that had a part that went something like "make the world (or people?) safe for every boy and every girl until there's no monster left in the world".
It might have had something to do with Attack on Titan, an english cover or a fan song or something, but i couldn't find it by searching that.
The singing and music style was pretty intense. The specific lyrics video i watched propably had a red background?
openCartoon episode where the sphinx was blown onto the Great Pyramid Western Animation
For some reason, for a long time I've had a memory of seeing an episode of a cartoon where at one point (due to massive, destructive wind?) the Sphinx was blown off of its foundation and sent flying, only to catch on top of the Great Pyramid of Egypt.
The image I have in my head is, I think, of animation from the 70s (Superfriends, maybe?), and while I'm fully open to the possibility it was just my imagination, I'd like to be able to track this sequence down if it in fact exists.
openBook about a little boy magically turning into an excavator Literature
I didn't actually read this book myself, but overheard it being mentioned in my dad's phone call with my granddad.
So apparently there was a children's book about some boy who loved playing in the dirt and somehow magically turned into an excavator, and... that's about all I know, aside from these points:
- My grandfather himself does not remember the book's name (he said that to Dad).
- It was ambiguous whether he was referring to a book from his own childhood, something from my father's childhood (Dad doesn't know of/remember it at all though), or something my very young cousin (visiting him) liked to have read to him.
- It's not some weird misremembering of Mike Mulligan And His Steam Shovel. That book is beloved in my family, and it was Dad mentioning Mulligan that got him to bring up this book in the first place.
- At the end, it MIGHT have turned out to be the boy's dream. Don't quote me on this though.
- It's not one of those Boy Who Turns Into a Truck books.
- I tried looking it up but didn't get anything, but I've learned (from the time I was asked to find a specific book for that same cousin) that a lot of kids' books just don't show up when you try to put their plot synopsis into Google. Unless it's popular, you need a title or to get lucky with phrasing.
I've told my dad to ask my grandfather for more details the next time he calls him.
openTeenage Nerd Crush Literature
It's set in a high school. This nerdy shy kid has a huge a crush on this girl but they've never spoken, She doesn't know who he is, until at some point where they somehow meet.
I remember one part where the boy sneaks over to her house to talk to her, and he looks through her window and sees her lying on her bed in her underwear reading a book and I think he blushes because of that. Then I think she somehow notices him and goes over to talk maybe?
I don't really remember but I think the cover was a lime green color with modern/minimalistic art.
openSong about the "word" "fouk" Music
There was this techno song I heard around 2004 with a woman talking (not really singing, more just talking, maybe samples) about the word "fouk", which she said came from some Latin word, and one example she used is "If you spent your hard earned money on aspirin and you don't have a headache, say "fouk", as well saying "fouk is not to be confused with the more commonly used, and rather vulgar word describing the act of copulation" (or something like that, I've tried looking up the "lyrics" in quotes and turned up nothing.) Anyway, I think the song was just called "fouk" and I thought it would be really easy to find, but I can't. I'm also not sure if "fouk" is a real word, as it's not on dictionary.com. Might just be a word they coined for the song or something.
resolved Game about working in a giant robot controlled warehouse Videogame
You're the only human left in the warehouse and you're on a hovering scooter thing, you wanna see your family again but you have to complete your job first. I know it exists I just can't find it.
openWhat Pokemon episode is this? Anime
On the Heartwarming page for Pokémon, there's an entry that's referring to one of the episodes from the anime. Now, this entry should be on the Heartwarming page for the anime, but it doesn't specify what episode it's from. This an issue because the page is organized by season, and the entry itself doesn't have enough details for me to clearly label what episode it's from.
- Some extra Team Rocket Heartwarming (they sure do it a lot): In one episode, James nearly gets himself killed by trying to capture a rare and powerful Pokémon on his own, and while Jessie comes to rescue him, they both end up getting trapped by the raging Pokémon. Resigned to the fact that they're going to die, Jessie tells James that, if there's an afterlife, she wants to meet him again there. This actually makes the terrified James smile, knowing that he and his best friend won't separate even in death. Luckily, they end up getting saved by Meowth, but still.
- Even sweeter because Meowth and Jessie, discouraged by their bad luck, had just abandoned James to go pursue careers. He was extremely upset, but as soon as they found out he was in trouble they ran to rescue him. Then they teamed up again. Status Quo Is God, but still, awww.
If anyone knows which episode this is from, then I can move it to the respective folder on the anime page. I can't really message the person who added it either, since it predates the edit history. At best, I can say it predates the XY anime, since the page history goes back to 2011, which is while the Black and White anime was airing.
