openNo Title Literature
You're my last hope, TV Tropes! My description is extremely vague, because it's been a very long time since I read this novel. Here goes a long shot:
It's an adult or YA novel (pretty sure it was an adult) about five or so sisters. I'm 93% certain it was magic realism. The author is a woman. The parents weren't around and/or dead, and the eldest sister got a Promotion to Parent very early on (possibly before the novel started). She worked, while the others were in high school and, I think, middle school. One of the sisters was rebellious, and one (probably the youngest) acted very dreamy. Butterflies might have played some kind of motif.
It was set somewhere in Europe.
Here's my only detailed memory of it: the oldest sister went out with a guy, a doctor, and at one point she decided to break her own hymen with a hairbrush handle so he would think she had some experience when they had sex. Yeah, I think that scene supplanted my memory of the title and author. Dangit, brain.
Edited by TaffyCatresolved Japanese(?) Horror/Psychological Movie Film
I remember very little about this film, but I think I watched it around 2009-2011. I believe it was Japanese but it may have been from somewhere else.
There's a woman who claims to be a psychic and works with the police to find a missing girl, but she's caught making stuff up/lying about being psychic.
There's a little girl who is kidnapped and ends up in a black box/bag in a green forest after she's killed.
Maybe the kidnapper is a woman? Who keeps the girl in her house until she accidentally is killed/dies.
Sorry for lack of info, its very vague in memory!
openShort horror story
A (relatively modern - probably written within the last decade?) short story about a couple living After the End, their relationship under serious strain since their daughter was killed during the apocalypse. I think they live in a lighthouse or somewhere else along the coast. It's told from the father's POV and his guilty thoughts about his kid get somewhat Freudian.
They're under threat from various creatures including some kind of plant people, who eventually kill the wife and then the husband.
This was a published story and not a Creepypasta, but it was accessible to read online.
Edited by MonaNaitoopenVideo game where you play as a lynx Videogame
So basically you play as a lynx and you have to take care of your baby lynxes. I remember there was this thing were you could jump really high if you charge your jump and you had to get up a small cliff using that during the tutorial.
And there was something about stars and constellations too but I don't remember exactly what.
And by the end, all the baby lynxes leave and you're just wandering around and I remember activating something like the Yandere Vision from Yandere Simulator and seeing a whole bunch of animals marked in the color used for hostiles and so I ran away and I came to this big tree stump and I used my super jump thing and then all of the hostiles got to me and I think they were like wolves or something but they couldn't get up to me and then the screen faded to black. I think that was the end of the game??
And I know this sounds a lot like Shelter 2 (and it could be) but I played this a while ago when I was a kid and I remember playing it on mobile and as far as I know Shelter 2 doesn't have a mobile port. If it is actually Shelter 2 and I'm just remembering something wrong, please let me know!
Edited by DragonRoar87openFemale character making an odd hand motion when referring to having sex
A work where a naive/sexually inexperienced female character refers to having sex and, while doing so, makes a very awkward looking hand motion. Another character (also possibly female but I'm less confident) then comments along the lines of "what was that? Please tell me you're not doing anything like that during sex!"
Maybe a sitcom or comedy movie? I'm 99% sure it's live action, not an adult cartoon.
TIA!
openFantasy novel. Bad guy looks for opponent. Literature
I’m looking for a fantasy novel where the bad guy is looking for his old opponent. I think his opponent did something like cut off the old magic they both used, or imprisoned the bad guy. No matter what little magic the bad guy uses he can’t locate his nemesis. He is contacted by his opponent once or twice but doesn’t know where he is hiding otherwise. Eventually he discovers his opponent sacrificed himself to cut off the old magic and when he was contacted by him he had travelled through time to deliver messages before he sacrificed himself. Despondent that he won’t see his old opponent anymore the bad guy gives up and sacrifices himself as well. I think it might be a David Gemmell book.
openExpedition (?) Game Videogame
There was an online game (I think it was something on National Geographic's website, but I'm not sure) about some adventurers exploring Africa, moving east to west and going to a village. Each turn some dice with images on them are rolled, and the images determine what happens; e.g. more porters join your group, a crocodile kills some porters, etc.I believe the game was called "Expedition" or something like it. Does it even still exist?
openMale Misandrist Manga
A manga with a gag where a Yuri Fanboy has two body pillows of girls on his bed, while he sleeps on the floor so as not to taint their female purity with his disgusting male presence.
Anyone know it?
openBook taking place in a bookstore/library that's more than it seems Literature
From what I can recall, the primary setting of the book was in a small bookstore. The protagonist goes into the bookstore and meets an old man who's the owner. After searching around the bookstore, the protagonist finds out that it's much bigger than it seems and that the back of the bookstore leads into another world. It starts out with "Mr" and it has "library" within the title. I only read an excerpt for it for class, but I thought the subject matter was really cool and I wanted to check it out one day.
It's like I'm in some kind of... TV Tropes...
openAnime intro recreated with windows xp sounds Web Original
I remember seeing a video of an anime opening recreated with Windows XP sound effects, but I forgot both the name of the anime and the video.
openDocumentary about world leaders
I see videos like this
on a channel detailing assassination attempts on world leaders. What show were they taken from?
openPortal wall in cornfield, missing people in other dimension Live Action TV
There's this show where there are detectives and they're tracking this portal wall thing(like a wall of mist) that pops up in different locations. I think there's a missing person(or a number of missing people) but specifically like a dad trying to find his daughter(or something like that) and the detectives discover they might be in an alternate dimension which is only accessible through the portal if they can catch where it is and when it's going to pop up again. The scientist people use technology to to figure out portal situation. I wish i could remember more. I think the show is pretty new.
openNot sure what it's called Film
There's this Chinese movie that was released I think before 2014 where a woman (probably the main villain), had a giant glowing spot like a blackhole on her chest, likely summoning it from a spell.
openSci-fi novel about interstellar colony before the background of a three-way alt!Cold War Literature
That's what I remember about it:
- In this world, the planet is divided into three power blocs: One (with the US and possibly Russia/USSR) that produces food, one that produces oil and gas (the UK is a member of it) and one that exports cheap workers (among others China)
- Interstellar space travel is obscenely expensive
- Weed is apparently legal in the US
- The colonists came across quite a few alien species, some of which are sentient/sapient to some degree
- One of them are living airships and spray a substance that has a very aphrodisiac and disinhibiting effect on humans. Two of the human colonists (a scientist and the leader of the American expedition) found that out the hard (lol) way on accident, the second time, he did it on purpose, which made the expedition leader think about whether she should do nothing or have the scientist executed (?) for rape
SPOILERS FOLLOW HERE
- The Cold War gets hot
- There are other colonies
- The American colony conquers the two others
- The descendants of the expedition leader become a ruling dynasty
- At least some of the space colonies are better off than the post-war Earth
openFilm in 19th century Film
I'm looking for the title of a movie set in the 18th century. It could be a TV-made film. I only remember the beginning:
A young woman immigrate to America by boat. It could be Canada or the US. She's hired as a maid in a rich house. The matriarch is very strict and tells her to watch her looks. The woman falls in love with the son of the matriarch, a young aspiring doctor. Not long after, the truth comes out and the matriarch is angry and outraged. The woman and the doctor leave to be together.
The film moves forward a few years later. They both live in a rural town and have a young daughter. The man is the town's doctor. The woman is expecting another child and goes into labor. Unfortunately, she dies along with the child, leaving the doctor and the daughter distraught.
The film moves again few years later. The daughter is now a teen and you can see that the father is still grieving over the loss of his wife. He has a mustache now. A plague hit the town and several people get fever(?) The daughter is sick and remains in bed. She wakes up days later with a lady watching over her. The lady tells her that she's cured, but that her father died from the fever during her long sleep.
Big "NO!" ensues and the scene shift to the daughter running outside to her parents graves.
This was maybe the first half-hour of the film. I didn't watched the rest and regret not having done so. Heck, I didn't even bother reading the title on the TV guide. If anyone can find the title of the film, it will be very much appreciated.
Thank you.
Edited by Nevermore2002openAn Anime regarding card games Anime
It involved characters being spawned via cards. I recall one of major characters being a blonde female with ponytails that had a energetic, bubbly personality, their name was likely something like “Sunshine”, “Summer”, or “Sunny”, and she had a love interest that black hair and glasses. I remember the main character having blue hair. The blonde character was friends with a female band of three that wore clothes that matched their hair, one wore blue, one wore pink, and one wore green. The movie ends with the main characters in a prom/wedding dancing with each other. I recall the blonde character being stuck in a statute
resolved Singaporean Lilo & Stitch-like movie Film
The movie is about a boy who befriends a robo-alien and keeps it a secret from his strict father. Said father dies in a construction accident at the movie's climax, and the boy releases his pet out of grief, also because he failed to reconcile with his father about his studies. The movie then ends with the boy trying to impress his crush, only for more robo-aliens to show up in a Bolivian Army Ending.
Edited by TroperNo9001openThat One Show About Talking Cars, with the Long as Sh*t Credits, Even for a Toddler Western Animation
It's a Preschool Show about talking automobiles or something. I remember there was little boy in the cast.
The show had quite a long credits sequence. Granted, this was aired on cable TV when I was a small kid, and by then I'd been accustomed to 5-to-10-second credits (maybe 15), which was the maximum length of a credits sequence. The credits consisted of a blue background with pictures of scenes from the show on top and white text on the bottom. The music played in the credits sounded awful lot like something coming out of a Casio keyboard.

I’m making an assumption here that the action figure is from an animated show from the 90s, but I could be wrong. I had an action figure that appeared to be from a martial arts show. The figure had red samurai armor and things that attached to his arms with three claws on each of them. The big distinguishing feature was that the figure had a long braid on top of his head (I mean, like the length of the full figure). Can anyone help me identify the show, or at least the figure?
