As your friendly neighborhood Admin Team, the gang here at TVTropes HQ is always working to improve the site.
Many of those improvements begin with suggestions posted right here, on the Community Wishlist. Is there a feature you really want on TVTropes? Post it.
Is there something we could be doing better? We want to know. Do you think we look fat in these pants? We were totally afraid of that. See a bug? Report it.
Important things to know:
- We're all about that content-creation life! The top contenders for our attention are ideas that'll create more content, like the video uploading feature, or speed up launching new pages. On the flip side, design or layout tweaks won't be our top priority.
- Help us dig through the goldmine of old wishlist items! If you have an old request gathering dust or spot one you're totally on board with, give it a bump and a like. There's a treasure trove of 6+ years' worth of ideas just waiting to be rediscovered. Items without enough love may not make the cut and will be closed.
- Was your wishlist item locked up without an explanation? It was most likely disapproved or just too big of a task versus the benefit it would ultimately have. Time is precious, and we want to focus on updates with the biggest bang for the buck. Don't be discouraged though! We appreciate every idea and we're always listening.
Make a Tech Wish:
openRearrange avatars in your gallery
I would really appreciate it if there was a way to drag and drop the avatars in your gallery to reorganize them.
Currently, the only way I can think of to reorganize avatars is to delete all of them and reupload them in the order you want, which would be incredibly tedious. Besides, if you do all that and then upload an avatar you would like near the beginning, you'd have to start all over again!
openvisual novel icon
An icon for the Visual Novel namespace, like the lightning bolt for Comic Book, the Felix the Cat face for Western Animation, etc.
openSearch by media type / namespace
When doing a Search, could results possibly be filtered by media type / which Namespace they are under? E.g. lately I searched for a Series called Sisters, and had to scroll through dozens of "Sister" Tropes (from the Main namespace) before finding it. Currently we are only able to sort according to either "Date" or "Relevance". It would be great if we could search for "Films", "Series", "Literature" etc. only.
Edited by LB7979open"Number of tropers online" counter
We used to have a feature on the sidebar that told you how many tropers were currently online. What happened to it? Could we bring it back?
Admittedly, a more useful feature would be the ability to see whether or not a specific troper is online, although maybe that could be used for... something undesirable.
Edited by DrNoPumaopenNumber of posts per page
I would really like a feature to change the number of posts per page on forum threads. It would make it so much easier to find a specific post - you could just set the number of posts really high so you don't have to flip through as many pages, and use Ctrl+F.
open"X is writing" for forums
Can we add a feature to the forums to tell you if someone is currently writing a post? It would be like the edit lock system for wiki pages, although it wouldn't necessarily have to lock other people out of writing a post, it would just let them know that someone else is writing one. It would be a very helpful way to avoid getting ninja'd on the forums.
openMain redirect deliberate redlinks?
I've been cutting Main redirects lately, and I was wondering if it would be possible to make it so that if a page is linked to the Main namespace, but also exists in a different media namespace, to be a deliberate red link. The purpose of this would be to make finding wicks to Main redirects easier and to encourage the use of proper namespaces. Like:
- Sailor Moon is bluelinked.
- Sailor Moon is redlinked.
openInclude "reason" field in WikiWord edit requests
Too many times I've wanted to provide a reason for a Wiki Word title change, e.g. "punctuation" or "too often linked as Film/Spiderman2". This is especially important when two works share the same name but have differently punctuated titles, such as ComicBook.Zero Hour vs Film.Zero Hour - the displayed title has switched back and forth between 'Zero Hour' and 'Zero Hour!' over ten times in the past year. (At least 2.0 will fix the latter problem... when we finally get it done.)
Edited by RallyBot2openA page for specific work questions
I think that they're should be a page kind of like the "YKTSW" page, where people can ask specific questions about works. For instance, let's say I want to know how many incarnations of the Doctor there has been. That's a question that would go on this hypothetical page.
openWait... Why is ATT named that? Is there a better name?
Wait... Why is ATT named that? Is there a better name that wouldn't invite as much misuse?
Like, "Ask About the Wiki" or something?
openMulti-Filter-o-matic
An option to plug in multiple tropes and have results that match most or all of them. i.e. looking for characters that are big brothers, stoic spectacles, and a bad ass in a nice suit = list of characters kinda like that
openEditing With Folders
I was thinking: "What if separating a page into folders allowed you to open and close folders on an EDIT page?". My point is that some of us would find it useful to be able to edit LONG articles with a lot less scrolling, particularly those who don't know about CTRL+F (CMD+F on Mac) or don't even have access to it. In other words, folder controls would open and close folders in edit mode, and folders themselves could have arrows next to them like with folders on desktops!
openOpen/Close button
More "folder thinking"; there should be an option to stick the folder control on the side of a page with folders. Possibly a profile-menu option like automatically opening all folders, night vision, etc.
open"[Username] Already Exists"
A small feature regarding usernames during registration. To elaborate, I've read a bit of statements from new users whose edit privileges had been suspended because the name, and been stated that they had been around earlier than the new user.
Edited by alnair20aug93openImage-change warning
I would like it if either changing an image would cause an image-change warning to appear 24 hours minimum before the change, or that any troper should be required to post said warning at least 24 hours before changing it.
openHex code support for colors
It would be cool if we were able to use hex codes to create colors while posting on the forums instead of the limited number of colors we already have.
openNew tool
I don't think this exists, but the should be a tool where you type in one namespace, and then another, and see how a list of pages that exist in both. It could be useful for both idle amusement and things like finding which pages exist in both creator and trivia namespaces, so we can cutlist them.
openLinks to troper pages
The 'related' page for a troper page
currently doesn't show any links, even if it is linked somewhere. It would be useful if it did, because then we could find and exterminate any unwanted first-person writing more easily.
openOutdated Mark All As Read Page
Mark All As Read
looks rather poor... not only does it use the (somewhat) old logo, but it's pretty empty. Obviously the logo should be changed to the modern one, though I can't come up with anything else.

Can / will we get a new edit type, likely called "Small Changes" to contrast with Large Changes?
Like for things like typo fixes and other minor, things?
How big does a change have to be to be Large??
