As your friendly neighborhood Admin Team, the gang here at TVTropes HQ is always working to improve the site.
Many of those improvements begin with suggestions posted right here, on the Community Wishlist. Is there a feature you really want on TVTropes? Post it.
Is there something we could be doing better? We want to know. Do you think we look fat in these pants? We were totally afraid of that. See a bug? Report it.
Important things to know:
- We're all about that content-creation life! The top contenders for our attention are ideas that'll create more content, like the video uploading feature, or speed up launching new pages. On the flip side, design or layout tweaks won't be our top priority.
- Help us dig through the goldmine of old wishlist items! If you have an old request gathering dust or spot one you're totally on board with, give it a bump and a like. There's a treasure trove of 6+ years' worth of ideas just waiting to be rediscovered. Items without enough love may not make the cut and will be closed.
- Was your wishlist item locked up without an explanation? It was most likely disapproved or just too big of a task versus the benefit it would ultimately have. Time is precious, and we want to focus on updates with the biggest bang for the buck. Don't be discouraged though! We appreciate every idea and we're always listening.

openMake it possible to put italics or bold lettering within blue links?
I can't remember where exactly, but I've come across instances where people write out examples wanting to put italics or bold lettering within a blue link, but have to write it out the trope multiple times because the website doesn't allow for letter-type overlap.
A clean example would look like this as one link: ''Too'' much '''BLUE''' lettering
But to get what you really want, it has to be written out like this as four separate links: Too much BLUE lettering
EDIT: Finally came across one of the examples in the Narm Star Wars page. Just go down to the "This is TENSE" example under the Phantom Menace section for the Prequel folder.
Edited by RetlocliveopenSuggested Icons for Pages
- Rageface for Memes.
- Music note from the ear for Ear Worm.
- The Kanji (俳句) for Haiku
- A split speech bubble for Broken Base
- A ship for Shipping
- Poop with exclamation point inside the letter "O" for Oh, Crap!
- A brick wall for What An Idiot
- A sad face for Woobie
openTruncated Namespace.
Okay, call me a professional nitpicker if you want...
Among the buttons sporting namespace entries on top of the page, the (standard one) longest possible is "WesternAnimation". As such, it is truncated to "WesternAnimati...". Where it becomes silly is that the ellipsis take about the exact same amount of space than it would take for "on", thus it's rather pointless. Pushing up the display limit, even so slightly, would avoid this for a very common namespace. (I don't care about rarer, longer namespaces.)
openA Preview button when
Adding or editing a comment, like in here and in TLP, especially when you're not sure of the formatting.
openLinking to Trope Talk from Ask The Tropers' description?
Can we link to Trope Talk from the Ask The Tropers' description?
openA minor suggestion regarding the Forum.
Anyone here thought of hosting Toys category at the Media board before? I've been a toy collector and photographer for quite a while and I wish I can discuss with the others, and yet there's currently no place for doing so.
openTool for inbounds
I would really like if the tool to look at inbounds for a page was brought back.
openNamespace List Automated Alphabetization
The Index of Indexes
has an alphabetization feature that ignores "The." Would it be possible to make all the namespace lists (or at least the Recap/
list with it's 20,000+ entries)note number based on how many rows in Excel a copy-paste job takes up be alphabetized like this?
openFormating is HARD
It's hard to format comments or pages. For example, there's an enter hit after the previous period, and seven spaces after the comma and before "and".
Did I get it working? I used two enter spaces to make a new paragraph, right? Wrong. there was a three-space indent before "Did".
Stuff like that. also WIKIWORDS cannot be all caps, even though caps don't matter aparently. Thanks( <—-7 Spaces).
openMaking the title character limit more visible.
The signature is easy to do, since there's a clear count of how many characters you can use, but the title is tricky as it doesn't tell you and it doesn't stop you if there's too many characters, so you have to guess where the limit is. It would be nice if we had a way of counting down how many characters we had left.
openView Forum Markup
This probably isn't high-priority, but I would like the ability to see markup for a forum post like we can for posts in ATT, YKTS, TF, and TLP. It could be a button that replaces the badge shop one.
openBigger TLP, PM and ATT boxes
The text boxes for TLP, P Ms and ATT (and TF, YKTS, Bug reporting...) are only two lines tall, but several lines tall when being edited, making it easier to look over the entire post. Is it possible to make them larger from the beginning, rather then just when editing them?
openWatchlist "Clear" Button
I would like there a way to "clear" your watchlist. I realize that I've watched way too many pages and I rendered the page laggy and useless to use. I don't want to have to get rid of each item on the list by hand, that's incredibly annoying. At the very least, I would like to remove multiple pages much more quickly.
openThe page buttons
Please put the buttons at the top of the page for YKTS, ATT, TF, and WL. As well as at the bottom. Makes for easier browsing.
Edited by Crocket_LawnchairopenTheme Park Forums
I wish there was a place in the forums where I could talk about Amusement Parks and Theme Parks.
openArticle Header Link
I tried to make a link to a character within a characters article but there is no apparent feature allowing me to do so.
openRecent discussions link
I think I've asked for this before, but I think it would be useful to have a link to the recent discussions
page somewhere on the sidebar. probably under the Tools menu. This way people can easily check if any new discussions involve a page they're interested in, and it will hopefully increase the number of people actually using those pages.
openSearch Discarded TLP
Trope Launch Pad has a feature to search for TLP's that haven't been launched or discarded, which is nice... but I wish that it could be possible to have a search option for Discarded TLP. For Launched TLP it would be redundant, seeing as you can use the normal search bar, since they're just regular tropes. Discarded TLP would need this, though, so people could see which ideas are bad, and if someone already tried to do a TLP like they did and failed. Would such a feature be possible? Thank you.
Edited by PiterpicheropenThread merging
I've always thought it was weird that mods can't merge threads, instead of having to always lock duplicates. Pretty much every other site I've been on with forum section has this. Sometimes people just forget, but a good conversation ends up coming out of it anyway. So in some cases thread merging would be a better option.

If I look at the random media button out of the corner of my eye, I always confuse it with the red icon telling you that you have a new message.
