As your friendly neighborhood Admin Team, the gang here at TVTropes HQ is always working to improve the site.
Many of those improvements begin with suggestions posted right here, on the Community Wishlist. Is there a feature you really want on TVTropes? Post it.
Is there something we could be doing better? We want to know. Do you think we look fat in these pants? We were totally afraid of that. See a bug? Report it.
Important things to know:
- We're all about that content-creation life! The top contenders for our attention are ideas that'll create more content, like the video uploading feature, or speed up launching new pages. On the flip side, design or layout tweaks won't be our top priority.
- Help us dig through the goldmine of old wishlist items! If you have an old request gathering dust or spot one you're totally on board with, give it a bump and a like. There's a treasure trove of 6+ years' worth of ideas just waiting to be rediscovered. Items without enough love may not make the cut and will be closed.
- Was your wishlist item locked up without an explanation? It was most likely disapproved or just too big of a task versus the benefit it would ultimately have. Time is precious, and we want to focus on updates with the biggest bang for the buck. Don't be discouraged though! We appreciate every idea and we're always listening.
Make a Tech Wish:
closed Add "Fixing a sinkhole" in the common edit reasons checklist.
One of the common problems in this site are Chained Sinkholes so adding that as one of the edit reasons on the checklist will be appreciated.
Edited by Ayumi-chanclosed Media Finder Redirect
Make Main.Media Finder a redirect to the Media Finder page,
just like how Main. You Know That Show currently redirects there.
closed Alt text for images
As proposed here
, it might be good if images on this wiki had descriptive alt text for visually impaired users. This is also one of several potential accessibility improvements proposed here
in Bugs.
closed page mover edit reasons
The page mover now automatically leaves edit reasons saying where the page was moved from. (Hooray!) Requesting for the edit reason to:
- also include the page it was moved to
- link to both pages
Something like this:
(The braces are to ensure it works with single-word page titles. The periods are to force the namespaces to display.)
Example here
closed Font/color changs on subpages
I'm not sure I like the fonts and header colors on subpages, such as Nightmare Fuel or YMMV. it's really distracting, especially in a page history.
closed Watchlist, links to history
The new watchlist doesn't include link toward the history of the pages recently changed, only toward the main page. When you're interested in looking at the recent change, that was a much loved shortcut; now we need two clicks.
closed PM Notification
Could the big green "You have a PM!" banner come back? I rather prefer it to clicking on the tiny avatar-badge number.
closed Fast-track for Main/ Redirects
The Main/ namespace is locked down now, but could we have some kind of request queue for redirects so that they don't have to go through YKTTW?
Let's say I wanted to launch a trope called Main/ManRunningInCircles, but I also want a redirect called Main/WomanRunningInCircles to cover female examples (and possibly Main/MenRunningInCircles and Main/WomenRunningInCircles as well). Do I have to go through YKTTW four times for this, adding boring proposals which take up space in the list and are unlikely to attract hats?
It would be nice to have a button next to "WikiWord" (which really seems like it should be "Customize WikiWord" but meh) called "Add Redirect". Similar to customizing a WikiWord, you can use this feature to send a request for a new redirect, which must be approved by a mod before launching. This would also be more convenient in general than the old route of creating a new page with [[redirect:New Page]] in it.
Edited by Prime32closed YKTTW - What happened to editing comments?
There doesn't seem to be a way to edit comments in the YKTTW section. This is problematic because:
- I just suggest an example to someone's draft, and made a few mistakes when I wrote it. I had to write a seperate comment listing the errors I made and asking the OP to fix them when he or she added the example to the draft.
- When someone suggests an example for one of my drafts, I can no longer copy the markup from their comment. I guess this isn't a huge problem, but it is inconvenient.
This is really the only problem I have with the new design. Can someone please fix this?
closed Ability to delete multiple PMs at once
Right now, in your mailbox, you only have the option to delete individual messages one at a time, or do a "delete all" and clean everything out at once. It would be very nice to have the ability to select multiple messages via check boxes and delete them all at once with a "delete selected" button, either in the toolbar at the top of the page or at the bottom of your inbox.
closedSet wicks for indexes and disambiguation pages to be a different color
Something that might be helpful for cleanup purposes is if pages with the types "index" and "disambiguation" could have their links show up in different colors than blue, red, or amber. See this TW thread
for reference.
closed PM archive
Have you ever accidentally deleted a private message? I have. Are you afraid of the delete buttons? I am. A PM archive that goes back thirty days would solve this. This way you can read and reply to messages you accidentally deleted.
closed Allow strikethrough text on LastSecondWordSwap page.
It would be appropriate if that specific page had a custom CSS that made strikethrough text work as intended, instead of the usual Obvious Rule Patch of deleting it.
closed A way to take care of circular links
It would be a while before we could do this, maybe in a future site update, but I thought it'd be nice if whenever someone linked to the article within the article, instead of reloading the page when you clicked on the link, it would take you to the administrivia page.
It would take a talented programmer to pull this off, but still.
closed way to holler mods on Ask the Tropers
Since ATT is where reports of problem behaviour go, it would be helpful to be able to holler posts for quickly-developing cases (and much easier than pm'ing the mods separately)
closed Mobile site scrolling header
Hi, could you put in a way to turn off the scrolling header in mobile, I'm visually impared, so I tend to zoom in on my phone a lot, and the scrolling header makes it kinda annoying.
closed "Previous" and "Next" buttons on this page look as if they don't work
It's petty, I know, but in Night Vision at least, the Previous and Next buttons kind of blend into the background, in way that one thinks they're useless or disabled, or that there aren't more pages of requests. They should be a different color than the background, or at least have a different font color than their outline (like the Submit button, for instance), so that they look useful rather than like they're trying not to be noticed. Something should only look useless when it is useless.
closed New comment on query brings it up to the top
Said feature was in the old design. I wish it can be implemented here too.

This was brought up here
by Twiddler but basically
Instead of the edit history pagination looking like this:
It should look like this:
That way, the oldest edits will be found on the rightmost button/part of the bar instead of the leftmost, while the recent edits are on the leftmost button instead of the rightmost. This suggestion still keeps the oldest edits on "page 1", so that's nice.
It just seems more intuitive.
