As your friendly neighborhood Admin Team, the gang here at TVTropes HQ is always working to improve the site.
Many of those improvements begin with suggestions posted right here, on the Community Wishlist. Is there a feature you really want on TVTropes? Post it.
Is there something we could be doing better? We want to know. Do you think we look fat in these pants? We were totally afraid of that. See a bug? Report it.
Important things to know:
- We're all about that content-creation life! The top contenders for our attention are ideas that'll create more content, like the video uploading feature, or speed up launching new pages. On the flip side, design or layout tweaks won't be our top priority.
- Help us dig through the goldmine of old wishlist items! If you have an old request gathering dust or spot one you're totally on board with, give it a bump and a like. There's a treasure trove of 6+ years' worth of ideas just waiting to be rediscovered. Items without enough love may not make the cut and will be closed.
- Was your wishlist item locked up without an explanation? It was most likely disapproved or just too big of a task versus the benefit it would ultimately have. Time is precious, and we want to focus on updates with the biggest bang for the buck. Don't be discouraged though! We appreciate every idea and we're always listening.

closed Finding questions
If there is a function, I cant find it, but it would be nice if there was an easy way to find a 'Trope Finder' or 'You Know That Show...' question that you posted and can't remember how you worded the question, like a way to search usernames or a tab on the profile.
Edited by lightsidesoulclosed Link colors
Recently, Disambiguation pages got their own link color. This is very useful for finding and fixing them on work and trope pages... so can we please have something similar for redirects and index pages, for the same purpose?
Until next time...

closed Ping in TLP
We should be able to ping users in TLP. A lot of commenters need to have the problems with their suggestion pointed out to them, but frequently they don't return to see responses to them on their own.
closed Allow tropers to lock their own ATT posts
At the moment, ATT threads can only be locked by moderators, which mean mods have to intervene if they go too far off-topic.
Crowner posts are generally locked almost immediately, as they don't need comments.
Allowing tropers to lock posts themselves once their query is resolved would make the mods' lives a little easier.
(If we allow tropers to unlock them again, this probably needs an extra check to ensure they can't reverse mod locks, and that that this applies to all historical locks applied prior to the new feature)
Edited by Mrph1closed Section that shows off big Just-For-Fun projects and other notable fun trope related things
I heard that apparently the owners what tropers to think big about suggestions, so I'll try. I couldn't think of any additions to the more work side of things that weren't just minor fixes and weren't already mentioned.
Y'know that part of the sidebar that showed fanmade content about TVT like that webcomic which explored tropes in the form of comic strips, or that TV show? How about that, but instead for projects within the site? CM, MB, Trope Pantheons, Self Demonstration for both characters and tropes, maybe even Encounters if that starts up again!
Other things included could be popular forum games about tropes, like the one where you guess which trope page an image belongs to or the more well known Crappy Image Pickin' where tropers pick out joke images for tropes. In terms of pages, there are many Just-For-Fun pages out there that are filled with many jokes.
In a nutshell, basically a place that shows off the more fun side of TVT.
closed Common Edit Reason suggestion
Could "Deleted without reason" be added as a "Common Edit Reason"? I know I've made more than my fair share of edits simply putting deleted information back because it was deleted without an edit reason.
Edited by STARCRUSHER99closed Reverse-flagging tool to stop revenge-reporting
Moderators could have access to a checkbox/button which disables the "This page may violate the Content Policy" checkbox in the report page dialog, to be used for pages which have already been reviewed.
So for a page like Cuties (which has been revenge-reported three times within twenty four hours by now-bounced users), the idea is that simply ticking the box would stop the revenge-reporting entirely.

closed Factor in IP Special Cases
While the new update regarding images is great, it needs to account for items in Image Pickin' Special Cases if possible. Pages that we decide should have no pic get the same notice as other imageless pages, for example.
closed Automate page renames/moves
The way page moves occur is through a simple sequence:
- Create a new page, with the same content as the original page
- Do the same for any subpages (if performing a rename, and not a move)
- Search related pages for the appropriate wicks and update them
- Ask mods to move relevant discussion pages (if applicable)
- Replace original page contents with redirect to new page
- Put old subpages on cutlist (if applicable)
This seems like a process that could be automated. Since the mods are able to move the discussion pages without manually recreating them, that would suggest that a utility of some sort already exists, and it's just a matter of altering the connected/parent page.
As there is not much complicated editing, automating the process should be relatively easy, and the proposed utility might do the following:
- Create a new page, with the content of the old page
- A direct move could also be performed, without needing to create/blank old pages
- Move subpages (if applicable)
- Cache a list of relevant pages/wicks
- Process the pages on the cached list, performing a search and replace for the relevant links
- Move discussion page
- Set up redirect at the old page, pointing to the new one (if applicable).
The site already has the ability to do a good many of these functions, since it is able to determine related pages/links, and the page moves are relatively simple functions using editing, which is already performed by the SYSTEM user.
It also already grabs the wicks, and is able to determine which corresponds to which new page. Since updating wicks is the most time-consuming aspects of page changes, even just automating it would significantly speed up page renames.
To prevent abuse, the utility could be either limited to mods, or operate on a similar page to the cut-list, where users propose a page move/change, the changes is reviewed, and if approved, the move takes place.
closed Theatre Icons
For quite a while, I have seen that the theatre namespace lacks an icon. Perhaps the comedy-tragedy mask icon could work as that is most associated with theatrical productions.
closed A Cutlist for images. You need to wait for approval and state your reasons for deletion clearly.
Well, first I'd suggest you'd fix the algorithm that detects whether an image if used in an article of not, because it seems to not work if the images are in a folder. But anyways.
I'd like a way to delete inappropriate, strangely formatted, low quality, duplicate, or simply "unused for very long" images. The image must not be used in any articles, and also discussions/forums before it can be deleted.
closed Private Message Checkbox System
Stop me if you've heard this one before:
You're checking out your Message Inbox and find that it's bloated with old messages that you had resolved or were notifications for you having uploaded a Video Example you had made long ago. You mouse your cursor over to the red "X" to delete that message from your Inbox in order to clean up more space in it, only for the page to automatically reset and bring you to the top of the screen: causing you to lose your place in the long list again, meaning that you are forced with no other option than to slowly scroll your way back down again trying to remember where you just were at.
This is less-than-ideal for most of us that can't afford to spend several minutes looking through after deleting a single message that we often tend to avoid going into that Inbox with the purpose of deleting older messages you no longer need. The only way I can think of that this can be resolved is to incorporate a checkbox system located on the left side of the Inbox Message that can allow us Tropers to carefully select the Messages we want to delete on a page one at a time and then press a "Delete All Selected" option in order to clear them out of our Inbox without too much hassle. It would make traveling into our Inbox seem less of an annoyance that needs enduring and let us get back to doing the things we love most: Categorizing and Calling out the Colorful Clichés that Crop up in our Cartoons, Cinematics, and Chronology!
closed Allow users to see a history of their Hollers
As it stands, you can see PMs including notifiers - but there's no record of any hollers you've sent on forums, flagged reviews etc.
It'd be good to have a history of these as well, ideally accompanied by a link to the relevant post/review/whatever
Edited by Mrph1closed Provide tropers with a history of their image uploads
It's not covered in your edit history, and if the modal closes before the link's copied, it can be a real pain to find the image again.
I'm pretty sure we end up with a lot of double uploads when this happens.
(It's also one of those things that would help regular tropers to feel more engaged with the site)
In a perfect world, I'd also show a 'related' link for each image to show how many pages/threads use it.
Edited by Mrph1closed null edits don't duplicate edit reasons
If an edit doesn't change anything on the page, the edit reason only shows up once.
closed Genre page type
Not namespace, but page type (i.e., that thing on the right). This would be to better differentiate genre pages from indices and trope pages, as they are typically a hybrid of the two.
closed Add pagination to Followed Threads
Unlike most other forum screens, Followed Threads doesn't seem to add page breaks, so you end up with a single extremely long page.
Possibly add breaks after every 50, as happens when viewing all threads in a particular subforum?
closed Warning Icons for SugarWiki
You know how Flame Bait items have an orange flame icon when they are linked? Well, I've been wondering if certain items on SugarWiki, like SugarWiki. And The Fandom Rejoiced, could have something similar to ensure they're not linked to. Maybe something like a pink icon depicting a sparkling cake?
Edited by ChillyBeanBAMclosed Pronouns field for profile
(This idea was already suggested here
back in 2018 but the thread was closed, thought it could be worth bringing up the idea again)
Was thinking it could be a good idea to add a "pronouns" field as a profile option, so people know right away how to refer to each other. Ideally this would be a fill-in box, letting people freely add stuff like multiple pronouns in any order or neopronouns without each option having to be requested and manually added. Of course, if anyone abuses this (as pointed out in the old thread) to make unfunny jokes like "attack helicopter" or "nor/mal" or whatever, this could just be reported and the user in question given a warning - to make it clear to them that this is for listing your actual pronouns and not transphobic "jokes".
(And yes, people can put pronouns in their title/signature if they want people to be aware, but I imagine most people would rather use these spaces for other things)
Edited by Zanreo

Can we please use the bulletin system (or other system that's harder to miss than P Ms) to announce when a trope definition has changed or is no longer a trope to the entire wiki, instead of just a single post in ATT?
Or have an easy-to-find list of such changes, and announcements when it gets updated?
