As your friendly neighborhood Admin Team, the gang here at TVTropes HQ is always working to improve the site.
Many of those improvements begin with suggestions posted right here, on the Community Wishlist. Is there a feature you really want on TVTropes? Post it.
Is there something we could be doing better? We want to know. Do you think we look fat in these pants? We were totally afraid of that. See a bug? Report it.
Important things to know:
- We're all about that content-creation life! The top contenders for our attention are ideas that'll create more content, like the video uploading feature, or speed up launching new pages. On the flip side, design or layout tweaks won't be our top priority.
- Help us dig through the goldmine of old wishlist items! If you have an old request gathering dust or spot one you're totally on board with, give it a bump and a like. There's a treasure trove of 6+ years' worth of ideas just waiting to be rediscovered. Items without enough love may not make the cut and will be closed.
- Was your wishlist item locked up without an explanation? It was most likely disapproved or just too big of a task versus the benefit it would ultimately have. Time is precious, and we want to focus on updates with the biggest bang for the buck. Don't be discouraged though! We appreciate every idea and we're always listening.

closed New message for empty pages
The current message:
It's no longer possible for regular users to create new pages in the Main namespace. Also, the YKTTW is now named the Trope Launch Pad. For example, you could change it to something like this:
Or even better, just trim off the last part and have a unique text for when the user tries to make a new page in Main:

closed Block new pages from the Synopsis namespace
The forum agreed in this topic
that the Synopsis namespace should be merged with Recap. We already have a few-hundred synopsis pages, so some message telling the user to make the page in Recap instead would help out some. It already works for Main/, so why not Synopsis/?
closed Email ban
Well ban evaders are a problem on the site. And nothing is more aggravating than for a staff member to have edit block a page due to a ban evader using multipule accounts. Its unfair for a vandal to take away the right of other tropers to edit pages. So I am proposing a relatively simple solution, banning the emails. In the event a vandal's account is banned and there is a known proxy, just ban the email, effectively saying "We don't want to deal with your antics" since all of the trope accounts are on one email. Should tv tropes institute an email ban?
closed Mobile Page Type changer
I'd like to request an easy way to change page types on mobile. Currently, it's hard to change page types unless you use desktop mode, which requires you to zoom in and look for the option. I'd like to wish for an easier way to fix the type of a page when using a mobile device.
closed New protection system
The latest attack by The Troll Who Must Not Be Named gave me an idea. What if we had a multilevel page protection system, similar to Wikipedia's (that is, pages can be locked only to people with an account below a certain age and number of edits). Yes, I'm aware this is a huge change, and as such would likely need to wait for 2.0, (not to mention deliciously ironic given the bee up this particular troll's ass) but it would be a nice way to punish vandals and trolls without punishing every legit John Q. Troper for one idiot's GIFT. Thoughts?
Edited by Theatre_Maven_3695closed Ban Evasion Prevention
I've seen many people ban evade lately... but sometimes, I feel it could be easily avoided if they knew about the anti-suspension thread (if they have only been suspended once or twice). I've been thinking about some way to help reduce ban evaders by mistake. If someone would try to register a new account on a device/IP that has recently been using an account, a message would pop up:
WARNING! This device had an account recently using it. Making multiple accounts is good if:
- You forgot the password for your account, in which case post in this thread
, but only if you first tried the other methods listed in the header post.
- You want to rename your account to something else. This can be done very occasionally, but don't abuse it, and keep in mind you will lose all your previous contributions and the ability to edit your previous troper page.
- If you're suspended for a minor offence, and it's your first or second suspension, talk about it in this thread
. If you stay calm and show you can improve, you will get unbanned and can continue doing what you've wanted to do.
- If it's the third suspension, then you're unfortunately boned. This wiki runs on a three-strike system. But trust us, it's better to lose some than to lose it all, so grin and bear it.
The message would be shown for 1 minute with no way to skip it, giving time to rethink. After it's done, two buttons would show up at the bottom.
I understand and wish to continue | I have changed my mind and don't want to risk getting banned
The first one would give the standard account creation procedure, while the second one would redirect to the edit banned thread. Would such a feature be possible? Thank you. Edited by Piterpicher
closed Way to propose/discuss name changes for work pages?
I'm thinking we should have a way to propose changes we think should be made (for disambiguation or translation policy reasons.) Right now, there are a few changes I want to see made, but I want a community consensus on them. There's no place to do that at the moment, barring individual topics in TRS, which is supposed to be for tropes.
closed Previews for forums
Can we please have a preview fuction for posts in forums? It would be very nice to have a means of seeing if links and formatting work so we do not have to go back and constantly edit. I’m sick of doing that when a red link of formatting failure occurs.
closed Getting the works shared by two tropes.
Getting the works shared by two tropes, sorta the opposite of the Itty Bitty Wiki Tool of "Find the tropes shared by two works."
Use: Checking that super tropes aren't being used for the same example as a subtrope, where only the subtrope should be used.
Also for fun, like what's already on the page?
closed I Don't know how to make a page, but there's this new movie called Son Of BigFoot
I haven't seen a page on here yet, but I would like one. I just don't know how to make a page myself. I'll help with any examples, I just need a page to start off. So if anyone wants to make a page or show me how thanks!

closed No title
You should be able to search posts by user in Ask The Tropers and other forums that use the same design.
closed More Colors for Forum Text
I would appreciate if we could potentially get more colours for the TV Tropes forums, as I feel the the current line up is limited. Maybe, we could potentially use some kind of hex code system, where we put in a hex code, and the text will be of that colour.
closed HTTPS
If you're not logged in, Firefox Quantum blocks ads on TV Tropes even with no extensions at all because there is no HTTPS anywhere. There is no longer a good reason to not use HTTPS given that free certificates are available - see for example https://letsencrypt.org
.
closedAllowing Cut-Masters to Cut Subpages and Redirects from One Cutlist Entry
Could it be possible to cut a "typed as work" page's subpages (e.g. those that share the same title) from the cutlist without adding every page to the cutlist? Maybe just those subpages with a particular page type (e.g. "examples" and "sub-page") in case there's a work that shares a name with a trope in Main/.
I've lost count of how many times I've stumbled on an orphaned subpage because the troper didn't add it to the cutlist when the parent page was added.
I also have the same wishlist for redirects to a page added to the cutlist.
closed Spoiler subpage
Not much of a wish since I am pretty sure I could just go and do this with only Wrath of Mod to worry about. More a getting consensus / is this a good idea kind of suggestion.
I was thinking of adding a trope to a work page but realized I couldn't think of a way to phrase it without it being a spoiler. The fact that it only takes effect in the last few chapters and is a notable plot point means that even associating the trope with the work is arguably a spoiler.
The thought crossed my mind that a good way to work around that would be to allow for a spoiler subpage for works. Then we could list all the plot twist tropes, the death tropes, the all whited out tropes, the self fulfilling spoilers, and everything on spoilered rotten there without accidentally ruining someone's experience with unexpected spoilers. If you go to the spoiler page it is on you for wanting to read spoilers.
closed Cafeteria scene in teen movies
Can you add a page dedicated to cafeteria scenes in teen movies? In particular the ones that discuss cliques.

One of the ongoing projects is to move pages from their current namespace to another (say, "Fan Fic" to "Fanfic") to correct capitalization errors, either in the namespace or the title of the page itself. However, the current method involves cutlisting and recreating them, getting rid of their history in the process.
I'd appreciate it if there was a feature to let us move the pages, history and all, without cutting and recreating them. (I would also recommend that it's an admin-exclusive function, as a means to prevent abuse, with normal editors restricted to just requesting a move.) In part because otherwise, this project is going to take years - the number of pages that need moving is literally over 3,000, and that's just moving the "Fan Fic" pages to "Fanfic". And less than a third of them, for that namespace alone, are listed on "Pages in Accidentally Miscapitalised Namespaces". A page-moving function would make this project a lot easier.
Thank you for your time.
Until next time...
