As your friendly neighborhood Admin Team, the gang here at TVTropes HQ is always working to improve the site.
Many of those improvements begin with suggestions posted right here, on the Community Wishlist. Is there a feature you really want on TVTropes? Post it.
Is there something we could be doing better? We want to know. Do you think we look fat in these pants? We were totally afraid of that. See a bug? Report it.
Important things to know:
- We're all about that content-creation life! The top contenders for our attention are ideas that'll create more content, like the video uploading feature, or speed up launching new pages. On the flip side, design or layout tweaks won't be our top priority.
- Help us dig through the goldmine of old wishlist items! If you have an old request gathering dust or spot one you're totally on board with, give it a bump and a like. There's a treasure trove of 6+ years' worth of ideas just waiting to be rediscovered. Items without enough love may not make the cut and will be closed.
- Was your wishlist item locked up without an explanation? It was most likely disapproved or just too big of a task versus the benefit it would ultimately have. Time is precious, and we want to focus on updates with the biggest bang for the buck. Don't be discouraged though! We appreciate every idea and we're always listening.

closed Indexes textfield in the Trope Launch Pad
A minor but helpful request in the TLP would be a place to store the list of potential indices for a new trope.
It would be similar to the Laconic text field. In this case however, this field will usually be a list. You can display this list at the bottom of the trope draft either vertically or horizontally.
This would be useful in that you don't have to worry about accidentally including the index list once launching the trope.
closed Filtering thread search by forum.
In the forums, I find searching for the threads I want to go to a bit cluttered with the thread searcher only browsing the search results across all forums and not just one. A forum-specific search filter by forum (e.g. Trope Talk, Projects: Short Term) and forum group (Wiki and Forums, Media) would be nice not only for me, but plenty of other people who may have the same trouble.
Edited by Inky100closed Provide tropers with a history of their image uploads
It's not covered in your edit history, and if the modal closes before the link's copied, it can be a real pain to find the image again.
I'm pretty sure we end up with a lot of double uploads when this happens.
(It's also one of those things that would help regular tropers to feel more engaged with the site)
In a perfect world, I'd also show a 'related' link for each image to show how many pages/threads use it.
Edited by Mrph1closed Filter inbox view to "received", "sent" or "all" PMs
Inboxes can get pretty cluttered, and I suspect that's especially true for heralds (with automated outbound messages) and mods.
It'd be great if we had a way to filter them to sent vs. received.
closed Give some indicator that you're about to double post
I've been double posting by accident a lot more recently. It would be cool if there was some prompt that let you know if your next post would be a double post and cancel it if it were accidental.
closed Deprecated Name Redirect Highlight
When you scroll down to see the redirect(s) of a trope, it's not immediately clear whether that redirect is another valid redirect like how Contralto of Strength is to Baritone of Strength. Or if its a deprecated name that shouldn't be used like how Spikeification is the former name of Badass Decay.
I think it would be nice to have a visual indicator for when a certain redirect is supposed to be a deprecated name. Maybe make it a different color, like orange. Also have the indicator at the redirect list at bottom of the page.
To apply this to a page, maybe all you need to do is put an affix before or after redirect. Something like: [[redirect:deprecated:TargetPage]] or [[deprecated:redirect:TargetPage]].
Edited by AudioSpeaks2closed Allow users to see a history of their Hollers
As it stands, you can see PMs including notifiers - but there's no record of any hollers you've sent on forums, flagged reviews etc.
It'd be good to have a history of these as well, ideally accompanied by a link to the relevant post/review/whatever
Edited by Mrph1closed Allow tropers to lock their own ATT posts
At the moment, ATT threads can only be locked by moderators, which mean mods have to intervene if they go too far off-topic.
Crowner posts are generally locked almost immediately, as they don't need comments.
Allowing tropers to lock posts themselves once their query is resolved would make the mods' lives a little easier.
(If we allow tropers to unlock them again, this probably needs an extra check to ensure they can't reverse mod locks, and that that this applies to all historical locks applied prior to the new feature)
Edited by Mrph1closed Updated Image Pickin' thread reasons
Per the results of this Wiki Talk thread
and a request from Kory, I'm making a query for the updates to the Image Pickin' thread reasons. The new list (for now) will be:
- Needs Help
- Does Not Illustrate
- Changed w/o Discussion
- Policy Violation
- Duplicate Image
- Suggestion(s)
Once these get implemented, their uses will be spelled out in detail in the IP discussion thread.
Edited by Willbyrclosed Additional reason for Image Pickin: "copyright policy"
Went to bring up an image in Image Pickin (Standard Starship Scuffle FWIW) because it looked to be a single fan-art with no indication of permissions, and noticed there's nothing on the dropdown menu for violating the wiki copyright policy.
closed Forum post notifiers
This one's a suggestion for the forum system. One thing that happens a lot is that two people post in rapid succession, and one of them has to edit their post so that they can make it clear who they're replying too. TBH this is kind of tedious and I'd like for ther eto be some kind of notification when someone posts so that posters can avoid this kinda thing.
closed Timestamp Oddity
Timestamps are weird on this site. Check this post out for example.

(I'm sorry, but I can't figure out a way to make that image bigger. Click here
if you want to actually read what's on there without squinting your eyes.)
This was posted at 10:52 AM EDT, but it says it was edited 12 minutes beforehand, which should violate the laws of time and space. In reality, the reason it says that is because the time zone settings only conform to when a post is made, not when it was edited. I would therefore like for timestamps on edited posts to be changed to reflect the time zome settings in the profile.
Edited by JHD0919closed A way to check if an image being uploaded has already been uploaded.
Disclaimer: I have no idea exactly how possible it is for the admins to do this. Anyways...
Inspired by me clicking out of the Image Uploader a lot, I'm wondering if it would be possible to make it so that if an uploaded image is detected as having a pixel-for-pixel copy already on the servers, to give the uploading troper the choice to simply get the link to one of the already uploaded images. Could help with some (albeit pretty minor) data redundancy.
closed What's missing will soon be found by us Disney Fans
what we were meaning to say was; IS THERE ANYONE ON TVTROPES that can ACTUALLY add the rest of the amphibia videos in all of the TROPES?
MOD NOTE: Piracy links deleted.
Edited by Synchronicityclosed New color for Useful Notes
Since links to disambiguation pages are now green, maybe we could have a similar feature for Useful Notes pages (which, just like disambiguations, aren't tropes)? Maybe purple?
closed Character sheet Requests
If a work's primary page lacks a 'Characters' section, we might be unsure of what to include. In such cases, we could request specific character sheets for that particular work. The Recap page already has such requested pages, so why not extend the same courtesy to character sheets? Would you agree that this is a good idea?
closed Forum: Sticky-header a post other than the OP
We're thinking of long-running threads like HGS
, whose OP was written by someone who no longer participates in that thread. Making any edits thus requires hollering a mod every time, so eventually it was decided to just make a new rules post by someone still active and put a link there in the OP.
If we could've just stickied the new post instead it would have been a lot simpler.
There are probably other use cases for this but that's the one that inspired this so.

If an edit doesn't change anything on the page, the edit reason only shows up once.
