As your friendly neighborhood Admin Team, the gang here at TVTropes HQ is always working to improve the site.
Many of those improvements begin with suggestions posted right here, on the Community Wishlist. Is there a feature you really want on TVTropes? Post it.
Is there something we could be doing better? We want to know. Do you think we look fat in these pants? We were totally afraid of that. See a bug? Report it.
Important things to know:
- We're all about that content-creation life! The top contenders for our attention are ideas that'll create more content, like the video uploading feature, or speed up launching new pages. On the flip side, design or layout tweaks won't be our top priority.
- Help us dig through the goldmine of old wishlist items! If you have an old request gathering dust or spot one you're totally on board with, give it a bump and a like. There's a treasure trove of 6+ years' worth of ideas just waiting to be rediscovered. Items without enough love may not make the cut and will be closed.
- Was your wishlist item locked up without an explanation? It was most likely disapproved or just too big of a task versus the benefit it would ultimately have. Time is precious, and we want to focus on updates with the biggest bang for the buck. Don't be discouraged though! We appreciate every idea and we're always listening.
Make a Tech Wish:
closed Laconic hover feature
When you hover your mouse over a trope link, it shows the Laconic if there is one.
Edited by koryclosed TLP launching
Make the launch button only come when there are five net hats on a draft. Sometimes people don't fully understand that 5 hats does not always equal "launch now", especially not when there are bombs to balance them. This way, impatient sponsors can't just launch prematurely, and rogue launchers can't just launch any draft with 5+ hats regardless of condition.
closed Lock reasons
When an article is locked by staff, it should have a reason for locking that is displayed when you try to edit the page.
Edited by RamenChefclosed Response code for cut pages
Cut pages should return 404 (Not Found) or 410 (Gone) instead of 200 (OK) to discourage search engines from indexing them.
closedNew redirect
I was wondering, given the spelling redirect policy, if someone could make a redirect of Gold-Colored Superiority: Gold Coloured Superiority. Thanks!
Edited by nombretomadoclosed Searching through messages
It would be nice if there were a way to sort or search through your P Ms without just having to manually go from page to page. There are plenty of times when I need to find an exact PM, so if I could type in a name or something and narrow the PM search...
closed Give Video Examples the ability to represent more than one trope
I have an Idea for G-Darius and Metal Black videos that can represent both Beam-O-War and Wave-Motion Gun, and my BLUE REVOLVER video can represent both Bullet Hell and Dual Boss. It gave me an idea. What if Video Examples could be given more than one trope to represent, like how multiple video sources can reside in the same media source. I think this would save a lot of time, because instead of having to upload either different videos or the same video twice, just have the existing videos represent multiple tropes. I think that would be neat.
Edited by MOARPYLONZclosed Make certain CamelCase words not link automatically
It's just annoying having to type [=YouTube=] and similar phrases every time I want to use a term that is written in CamelCase.
closedRename The Trope "Esk*mos Aren't Real"
"Esk*mo" is a racial slur, so we should rename the trope completely. Others have brought this up on the trope's discussion page, too.
We could rename the trope with an example of it that fits better — one of the listed examples is a quote from the movie Coco when Miguel states that "vitamins aren't real," maybe the trope could be renamed to something like that.
closed A list of one's own posts or a search by user function on "You Know That Show..."
Hi,
On user profiles, one can check a user's edit history, and on the ordinary forums one can search for posts (or maybe just threads) by user. However, on "You Know That Show..." and "Ask the Tropers," amongst other "special" forums, neither solution is available.
I once asked a question on "You Know That Show...", and the only way I could find it was by Googling it.
We should have this functionality. I imagine a search by user function would be the easiest to implement.
Best wishes, Breehc Nicdoll
closed Enable Red Links for TLP comments
Doesn't seem hard to implement and would help separate existing tropes from trope name suggestions.
Edited by eroockclosedLong Term/Perpetual "Needs Wiki Magic Love" Cleanup Thread
When editing Needs Wiki Magic Love, I noticed a banner on the top that said "Warning: This article is too long. It needs to be broken into multiple pages.". I like this change, but seeing it also made me realize something about the page; A lot of pages still have not received the TLC that had been requested of them, and as such the page where the requests get sent is becoming cluttered. Not to mention a couple of requests do get fulfilled, but are still left up for a good while before someone notices. With this in mind, I think we should open up a Cleanup Thread to make the page more organized. While it'd be ridiculous to expect everyone to understand the source material a page is about, the thread could also be used to spread awareness of a page or pages for when someone's having difficulty finding a link on their own. And it could be used to debate whether or not the requests have been properly fulfilled.
EDIT: Something I forgot to mention; There was a Short Term Cleanup Thread years ago
, but I think making a Long Term Cleanup Thread would be better for the page.
closed Give a warning when you're trying to leave the editing screen
I've just accidentally closed my browser while making a fairly large edit, losing about 10 minutes of progress. When you're editing Wikipedia and accidentally attempt to close the tab, you're asked if you're sure you want to leave as changes made to the page will be lost. Such a confirmation prompt would be very handy for TVT as it effectively stops a source of data loss. Thank you.
closed Edit reasons at the top of edits
When adding some major spoilers, I realized something.
Edit reasons are at the bottom of the thing that shows the edits. But if they were at the top of them it could give a spoiler waring for those inclined. Thoughts to that?
closedPreview button for edited posts
I want to have a preview button for edited posts. Imagine this, you're typing out a 6 paragraph post. Later, you want to add another paragraph to your published post. The paragraph will require formatting. You want to see if your post will reflect what you want readers of your now edited post to see. But, there's no edit button. So now you have to post your un-checked post. And what if you forgot to add three single quotient mark on your ''italics' or misspelled a trope name? This is why we need a preview button for edited posts.
closed For Western animated movies to have a different namespace than "Western Animation".
On TLP, it's a bit annoying seeing an example from "Western Animation.XYZ" that I've never heard of and with no way to tell if it's a movie or a TV cartoon, so I have to either ask or just take a guess and risk people getting steamed at me.
Something like "Animated Film" or if it has to be strictly Western, "Western Animated Film" perhaps?
closed Hover preview, like on The Other Wiki
Currently if you hover over a link in The Other Wiki an infobox pops up with the first few sentences of the article, so you don't have to actually click on it to see what X or Y is. I believe this feautre would be a great addition on TV Tropes as well.

Fairly simple suggestion. Pages in the Ambiguity Index should show up as redlinks even though they technically exist (like with This Troper and some other pages), to discourage linking to them.
