As your friendly neighborhood Admin Team, the gang here at TVTropes HQ is always working to improve the site.
Many of those improvements begin with suggestions posted right here, on the Community Wishlist. Is there a feature you really want on TVTropes? Post it.
Is there something we could be doing better? We want to know. Do you think we look fat in these pants? We were totally afraid of that. See a bug? Report it.
Important things to know:
- We're all about that content-creation life! The top contenders for our attention are ideas that'll create more content, like the video uploading feature, or speed up launching new pages. On the flip side, design or layout tweaks won't be our top priority.
- Help us dig through the goldmine of old wishlist items! If you have an old request gathering dust or spot one you're totally on board with, give it a bump and a like. There's a treasure trove of 6+ years' worth of ideas just waiting to be rediscovered. Items without enough love may not make the cut and will be closed.
- Was your wishlist item locked up without an explanation? It was most likely disapproved or just too big of a task versus the benefit it would ultimately have. Time is precious, and we want to focus on updates with the biggest bang for the buck. Don't be discouraged though! We appreciate every idea and we're always listening.

closed A quick way to only include the ending of a trope name
So you know how we can use curly brackets and vertical lines to use only the first part of a trope name? Like {{Ship|ping}} to Ship? Can we do that with ends of trope names? Since we can't make redirects without article names, it would just be a lot more efficient to have a shorthand to exclude the first part of a trope name.
Edited by mightymewtronclosedPreview button for edited posts
I want to have a preview button for edited posts. Imagine this, you're typing out a 6 paragraph post. Later, you want to add another paragraph to your published post. The paragraph will require formatting. You want to see if your post will reflect what you want readers of your now edited post to see. But, there's no edit button. So now you have to post your un-checked post. And what if you forgot to add three single quotient mark on your ''italics' or misspelled a trope name? This is why we need a preview button for edited posts.
closed Allow tropers to edit and remove others' video examples.
Allow tropers to edit and remove others' video examples to edit videos that:
1. Don't demonstrate the trope correctly or don't demonstrate it at all, but still got approved somehow.
2. Have an extremely lengthy or inaccurate description. Or the description has lots of spelling/grammar mistakes in it.
3. Are uploaded to the wrong trope, or have a ridiculous number of media sources, or even none.
4. Have low quality, or looks like it was recorded on a device then uploaded and can be replaced with a better version, but still got approved somehow.
Basically, please allow tropers to edit and improve video examples just like trope pages.
closed Ban Evasion Prevention
I've seen many people ban evade lately... but sometimes, I feel it could be easily avoided if they knew about the anti-suspension thread (if they have only been suspended once or twice). I've been thinking about some way to help reduce ban evaders by mistake. If someone would try to register a new account on a device/IP that has recently been using an account, a message would pop up:
WARNING! This device had an account recently using it. Making multiple accounts is good if:
- You forgot the password for your account, in which case post in this thread
, but only if you first tried the other methods listed in the header post.
- You want to rename your account to something else. This can be done very occasionally, but don't abuse it, and keep in mind you will lose all your previous contributions and the ability to edit your previous troper page.
- If you're suspended for a minor offence, and it's your first or second suspension, talk about it in this thread
. If you stay calm and show you can improve, you will get unbanned and can continue doing what you've wanted to do.
- If it's the third suspension, then you're unfortunately boned. This wiki runs on a three-strike system. But trust us, it's better to lose some than to lose it all, so grin and bear it.
The message would be shown for 1 minute with no way to skip it, giving time to rethink. After it's done, two buttons would show up at the bottom.
I understand and wish to continue | I have changed my mind and don't want to risk getting banned
The first one would give the standard account creation procedure, while the second one would redirect to the edit banned thread. Would such a feature be possible? Thank you. Edited by Piterpicher
closed Expansion on "The Fic May Be Yours, but the Trope Page Is Ours"
The Fic May Be Yours, but the Trope Page Is Ours is a very good thing to have with hubris-driven authors who come here to hassle others; Take it from me, I was very happy when I discovered this. Although, I feel like it should have extra stuff added to it.
I think somewhere in there, it should also mention how authors have absolutely no right to tell users to stop editing their page and that Don't Like? Don't Read! is not a valid reason to tell them to stop, and that they're not allowed to make threats to stop them from being blocked by the user. It would probably save other users who have to deal with angry authors alot of heartache and frustration.
It should also say that you aren't allowed to attack a user because they gave a negative review on your work, and that you don't get to dictate whether or not they're "qualified" to.
Edited by Stardust5099closed Trope idea
I have an idea for a trope. It's the Jojo's pose, from Jojo's bizarre adventure. I'm sure that there are plenty examples of odd posing in media. I don't know how to add my own trope or any examples of it though. I hope this is where I'm supposed to submit trope ideas because I don't know where else to put it.
closed Show names of who gives hats or bombs in TLP
There seem to be too much anonymity in Trope Launch Pad's hat/bombs system. Like when a draft suddenly accumulates too many hats or bombs in a short time...
What do you guys think?
closed Automatically apply TLP bans to Edit bans
This might seem extreme, but I think it's necessary. See, there's never anything good that comes from edit-banned tropers using the TLP. Usually they just continue making the same mistakes that got them banned in the first place, and essentially it's a form of ban-evasion, or at least Loophole Abuse, as it's an attempt to still get their edits on the wiki. The clincher, though? Edit-Banned tropers can't launch drafts. The launch fails every time, because they aren't authorized to actually edit the wiki.
It seems pretty cut and dry to me. While TLP bans should still be able to be given as their own specific category of ban if the bad behavior was TLP-centric, edit bans should automatically come with a TLP ban. It's just too much of a risk with almost no actual benefit.
closed How To Write Examples under administrative lock
I'm not sure if this is the right place to put forward this request, so apologies if it isn't, but can the How to Write an Example page be under lock and key? Not that it's being vandalised or anything in the present, but I just think that if its access was limited to the higher-ups then users won't be tempted to edit the guidelines in an effort to make it conform to their own editing practices.
closed Increase video source length limit to match page title length limit
The current limit for a page title is 64 characters. On video examples, the field to list source works only accepts titles up to a length which is less than that. As a result, work pages with long titles cannot be listed as sources for video examples.
Edited by Twiddlerclosed An "open all notes on this page" button
Exactly What It Says on the Tin. It would make pages heavy on notes, such as the Memetic Mutation subpages and Trope Epitaph, much easier to read.
Ironically, there was a bug that did something similar when notes contained the same text, so it's clearly possible in some capacity to open all notes with one button. I'd just like a purposeful, optional mechanism to do so.

closed Warning when linking to an index on a trope page
I sometimes see people treat indices as if they were tropes, or to group up related tropes under second-level bullet points in a way that violates our rules on Example Indentation. Maybe adding a warning icon, like the ones we currently have when linking to trivia, YMMV, and Flame Bait pages, would help dissuade people from doing that.
closed "Withdraw cut request" button
In case of accidentally typing the wrong page, or cases like this one
where a new-ish user cutlists a page before learning proper procedure, there should be an option to remove a cut request you submitted.
closed Awesome/Archer has a problem.
There seems to be something wrong with the page as it quotes don't format well when putting the for some reason.
Edited by SeptimusHeapclosed Ability to holler TLP comments
A lot of TLP draft comments get off-topic or are just plain rude, and unlike forum posts, there's no easy way to let the mods know about them. This can be unfortunate when a bad draft draws a peanut gallery of unproductive snarky comments, or a new troper uses the comments of another draft to pitch completely unrelated trope ideas. Not sure if I'd go as far as to suggest thumping, but I think something could be done to help TLP comments.
closed Be able to to check Newly Created Pages on other days
Currently the New Edits filter for new pages
only goes for 24 hours then the list resets at a specific hour.
This means that if you happen to not be near a computer at that specific time you can't see pages created that day and they get lost among the thousands of other edits to other pages. Heck, if you are gone for a week then it's likely to be off the general list.
You should be able to put in a date and see the pages that were created on that date.
This would be major part in stopping trolling, spam, child porn and other unwanted pages.
Edited by jormis29closed Ability to lock TLP drafts comments after discarding/launching
Due to issues with a certain infamous discarded draft being bumped in the TLP activity by newbie comments, I think we should have the ability to close comments on TLP like we do on the forums and ATT. That way, we could ensure the comment sections of particularly contentious nuked/launched drafts don't devolve into further chaos once they've been officially put to rest.
Edited by mightymewtron

(I proposed this in the past, but it got locked after more similar suggestions started piling up in the comments)
Similar to how anything on the YMMV, Audience Reactions, Trivia, or Flame Bait indexes gets a warning icon when linked to, I believe that links that are on the Ambiguity Index should get a similar icon. This would warn people that these pages shouldn't be linked to anymore, and make it easier to spot these links so they can be replaced with something more precise.
