As your friendly neighborhood Admin Team, the gang here at TVTropes HQ is always working to improve the site.
Many of those improvements begin with suggestions posted right here, on the Community Wishlist. Is there a feature you really want on TVTropes? Post it.
Is there something we could be doing better? We want to know. Do you think we look fat in these pants? We were totally afraid of that. See a bug? Report it.
Important things to know:
- We're all about that content-creation life! The top contenders for our attention are ideas that'll create more content, like the video uploading feature, or speed up launching new pages. On the flip side, design or layout tweaks won't be our top priority.
- Help us dig through the goldmine of old wishlist items! If you have an old request gathering dust or spot one you're totally on board with, give it a bump and a like. There's a treasure trove of 6+ years' worth of ideas just waiting to be rediscovered. Items without enough love may not make the cut and will be closed.
- Was your wishlist item locked up without an explanation? It was most likely disapproved or just too big of a task versus the benefit it would ultimately have. Time is precious, and we want to focus on updates with the biggest bang for the buck. Don't be discouraged though! We appreciate every idea and we're always listening.

openMaking a new (sub)forum for Animation (Not Anime or Western)
I feel this is a worthwhile endeavor to pursue. Because the few threads about stuff like Chinese Animation (Ne Zha, To Be Hero, Nobody) and Indian animation (Lamput) get immediately buried, not to mention these get separate sections in the wiki, why should the forums be any different? I apologize for any inconvenience or rudeness.
Edited by SeptimusHeapopenMake Image Fixer's page names link to the page, instead of putting View and Edit together on one sid
https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/image-fixer.php
Even if the Namespace isn't as clear as normal since it's on the left, it feels more site-consistent if page names link?
closed Messages not alerting me?
Twice in the past few weeks, I've noticed that I'm getting messages I'm not actually being alerted to. In both cases, the message not only didn't trigger the red circle, it also wasn't bolded. I only noticed because I happened to be checking my inbox and saw the message there.
openEither add a work option in TLP, or remove the Page Type and Namespace completely
In TLP, the only Namespace possible is Main and the only Page Type is trope. Maybe add more options?
openWhen you click on reply link on a TLP History page, send you to the page of replies it's actually on
When you browse your TLP history and check your replies to various TLP drafts, clicking on the link will always send you to the last page of the draft's replies. This makes it annoying to find your own replies, especially on drafts with upwards of 4 pages. So just make it so that it always sends you to the right page and reply.
Edited by MrMister04closed Make the Launch and Discard Button on TLP move far away from the Reply Button
I'm not sure if rogue launches are intentional or accidental, where they mistake the "Reply" button near the Launch buttons, but I think the Launch buttons need to be moved a bit further away from the "Reply" button.
closed Suspension user tag
If a user has a forum, query, PM, etc suspension, to indicate that somewhere at the top of their Tropers/ page so people wouldn't ping them to discussions they can't participate in.
openAPP Alter character font size on pages.
Have an option under Display to change the font size for the app, as the font may be big (or small) for readers who grew comfortable reading on the mobile browser.

openSeparate description from examples
Instead of a single text for each page, each page can have up to two sections—descriptions, and example lists. Each acts as its own "mini-page", with their own edit histories, entries in "related", and locks.
They both display on the same page, so this changes nothing to the reader. (Though, you could use this for improvements like HTML regions to better comply to web accessibility standards
, or a "hide examples" button.)
Editors can choose to edit one section or both at the same time. If both are edited at once, they appear in different text fields. Being able to edit and preview just one section would be better for accessibility and bandwidth.
Descriptions and examples are functionally a lot different, but right now they are mixed together in edit histories, edit collisions, locks, related pages, watchlists... I think there is a lot of use in separating the two.
By default, existing pages could have all their text sent to description or example, based on page type. Over time, the page texts could be split into the two sections.
The idea isn't perfect. The Stinger would have to be mixed in with examples, and multi-character pages would not work well with this, though that should be mostly alleviated with the expansion of Character-Specific Pages. For pages with examples separated by descriptions, those would either have to be reworked, or have description forced into the examples section.
2.0 would be a massive overhaul that would require loads and loads of unique programming, but I'm thinking these "mini-pages" would be a lot less work for a lot of benefit. Perhaps it could be expanded to allow a larger number of sections per page, in cases of descriptions separated by examples, or for The Stinger. However, I wanted to keep this simple, so I'm just suggesting starting with two.
Edited by N1KFopenChanges for the "Do It" button on Cut List
It started by me wondering
what the floating Do It button could mean on https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/cutlist.php
since its purpose was not apparent to me, even after pressing it. Now I know it's meant to confirm a challenge for the cut entries.
Here's a suggestion to make this more intuitive, provided that items are usually challenged individually instead of as a bulk.
1. Attach a "Challenge" button to each individual item on the cut list instead of one floating button at the bottom.
2. When clicked, the user gets a mask similar to when we submit custom wiki titles.
workingHave a Left-hand Sidebar button outside of the profile page
When I'm logging back into this website, it's pretty tedious to have to navigate to my Profile just to turn the left-hand sidebar back on.
That's why I'm proposing that we have a "Left-hand Sidebar" button outside of the profile page alongside the "Show Spoilers", "Night Vision", "Sticky Header", and "Wide Load" buttons.
workingAllow links to work in notifiers
When sending a notifier, typed links do not work. This is a problem when sending custom notifiers, as sometimes pages need to be linked to to help with the context behind certain issues.
I am thus requesting that linking be turned on in notifiers.
openContinue Reading button for long headers
Long Trope Launch Pad drafts are already cut off by a Continue Reading button. Threads with sufficiently long headers should have those headers cut off by a similar button.
openquick pm sending having a preview button like regular pm sending
i'm not entirely sure why this is the case, but hitting "Send Message" on a user on the forums has zero Preview button

and considering the fact that PMs can't be edited, i think that's... really stupid, honestly, especially when, if i type the exact message on the "Send PM" screen in Messages & Notifications, there... is a preview button

and i just think it's a little arbitrary that one feature which does the exact same thing as another but faster is missing a key component
openReviews having a link back to the FanficRecs they came from / Related Pages list of their own.
Trying to find what Fanfic Recs made this "Savage" review so I know where to move it to disambig from all the things named "Savage".

closed Add the ability to pin posts to forum thread Actions
The mods have the ability to pin certain posts (usually the first post) to the top of a thread. If you created the thread, it seems like you should also have the ability to do that, especially if it's in Forum Games or any other subforum that isn't too necessary for the wiki's functions. (If it was in something like the cleanup threads, then I could understand wanting to limit that function to the mods.) I was wondering if it would be possible to add this to the dropdown list on the Actions button on threads you've started.
Edited by DrNoPumaopenList of linked pages can get too long
Since threads can now link multiple pages, this can result in giant headers like this, which looks rather inconvenient:
Suggesting pushing the links to a new line and making them smaller
In addition, I don't think there's a point in listing all the links in the Add Post header

In response to this comment
.
I feel it'd run into the exact same issue as described here
but for users who aren't even suspended yet.
Instead, I think, if a notifier is sent, the system can reply with "Note, this troper already has X notifiers of this type" or something so it wouldn't be in the open, but the users would know about repeat offenses and bring it up.
