As your friendly neighborhood Admin Team, the gang here at TVTropes HQ is always working to improve the site.
Many of those improvements begin with suggestions posted right here, on the Community Wishlist. Is there a feature you really want on TVTropes? Post it.
Is there something we could be doing better? We want to know. Do you think we look fat in these pants? We were totally afraid of that. See a bug? Report it.
Important things to know:
- We're all about that content-creation life! The top contenders for our attention are ideas that'll create more content, like the video uploading feature, or speed up launching new pages. On the flip side, design or layout tweaks won't be our top priority.
- Help us dig through the goldmine of old wishlist items! If you have an old request gathering dust or spot one you're totally on board with, give it a bump and a like. There's a treasure trove of 6+ years' worth of ideas just waiting to be rediscovered. Items without enough love may not make the cut and will be closed.
- Was your wishlist item locked up without an explanation? It was most likely disapproved or just too big of a task versus the benefit it would ultimately have. Time is precious, and we want to focus on updates with the biggest bang for the buck. Don't be discouraged though! We appreciate every idea and we're always listening.
Make a Tech Wish:
open"Choose Avatar" feature when posting in a forum
Let me put it this way.
On forum A, I want to post with avatar A, and on forum B, avatar B.
However, visiting my profile every single time I want to change avatars seems to be a hassle – not to mention, I am quite forgetful, so the avatars would end up mixed up.
Here's my idea: Every time we want to post a thread or reply, there's a small section that tells us which avatar we're using. If we want to change avatars, all we have to do is just click a button to change avatars and pick from our avatar gallery, without having to leave the page.
Edited by hARded2000closed More Voice Acting Tropes
I!d like to add some more voice tropes to the Wiki
“Elders Voicing Elders” - An elder character is voiced by an actual elderly actor. “Altered Voice Acting” - The actor that plays their character has their voice electronically pitched. “Digital Voice” - The character is voiced by an AI Machine “Creator Voices Too” - The creator of their show, also provides their voice for a character
Please Consider.
closed more indexes
like what i mean is I want more lists of specific types of things specifically tropes relating to different personalities like the ditherer or badass bookworm or the prankster stuff like that
thanks
closed Allow fourth-level bullets
On one trope page, I saw a franchise (first level) with multiple series (second level). In one of the series, an episode (third level) has multiple examples of the trope—each of these examples should be fourth-level. I'm sure that Sadistic Choice on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine episode "The Collaborator" is not the only place where this happens.
Edited by Someone1981closed Separate WMG entries by in-universe and crossover
I like reading people's theories on the WMG pages. What I hate is when most of them involve completely different IP groups/creators. *Or different IP groups WHEN THE WORK WAS CREATED* E.g. a theory about Alien Covenant that involves Harry Potter lore. Or a theory about Event Horizon that involves characters from the Marvel comic or Transformers universe.
My wish is that there be separate categories for WMG entries that are work-contained, involve crossovers between works by the same creator, or crossovers between the works and public domain, ripped off of or expyed to hell and back works (e.g Tolkien, Dungeons & Dragons)
VS ones that involve theories that crossover works from different universes made by different authors or IP groups.
This would require manual sorting of existing WMG entries which would be a pain in the ass, but actually figuring out which ones go into which category aren't that difficult provided one knows which works were made by the same author.
closed New Creator Page Suggestion: RV Maika
Esteemed custodians of the Internet, guardians of pop culture, I humbly request that the You Tuber known as RV Maika be granted a creator page of his own. His reviews of video games and movies are worthy of your time indeed. I have provided the link to his page below. Please consider my humble request.
closed Please restore the Search Function.
For the past couple of days, something seems to have changed about the Search Algorithm. Whether it's the Old or New Search, it's suddenly become much less intuitive. Whatever had been done to "upgrade" the Search Engine, please undo it.
Edited by SAMASopenMake a TLP draft have its launch button disabled for 7 days before it's launched or nuked
In my opinion, 3 days is too short for a TLP draft to be launched. In some cases, some tropers insist on launching it once the 3 day limitation is lifted without addressing lingering issues. For me, a TLP draft needs 7 days to cook.
Edited by alnair20aug93openHeadscratchers tutorial
Something like the title idk. I don’t know how to “reply” to people on Headscratchers, I want to answer someone’s questions but I don’t really know how, just make a tutorial for Headscratchers (like how to make questions and reply, that’s about it)
closed Nose Platform
I'm looking for moments where someone stands on a giant's nose. Take a butterfly landing on your nose for example.
openMake Image Pickin' notifiers on discussion pages permanent + more prominent
When an Image Pickin discussion starts for a particular page, the link in the thread title creates a discussion post.
However, this doesn't actually appear in watchlists, so it only alerts anyone who actually looks in the discussion page.
- Make this trigger a watchlist entry, as a normal discussion page post would.
- Make this more prominent on the page.
- Make it a permanent addition to the page - at the moment it vanishes when the thread changes or locks.
openThe ability to mark/highlight certain word/text/grammar errors
Oftentimes, when I find certain grammatical errors on a page (misspelling, missing/redundant words, formatting problems, etc), I either consider editing to correct later and end up forgetting about it until I come across it again, or I go to immediately edit to correct them but still struggle to find it again due to the page either being on the larger side and/or said error blends in with all the other neighboring text.
With the ability to mark/highlight certain areas of text while looking at a page (with said highlight carrying over when editing a page), I'd be easier to find what's needed to be edited without accidentally getting overlooked for one reason or another.
To avoid abuse of the system, the highlights should probably be limited to individual tropers and not be shared to anyone else, or there be scenarios of highlights overrunning pages.
closed Idea for preempting ban evaders
Basically, when an user's account is suspended, account creation on their IP address is disabled, but users can still log in so that they can appeal their suspension. When their suspension is lifted, account creation on their IP address is reinstated.

Some sort of tool that can be included with the video uploader that can be used to rate how much it matches the trope by percentage before posting it.
