As your friendly neighborhood Admin Team, the gang here at TVTropes HQ is always working to improve the site.
Many of those improvements begin with suggestions posted right here, on the Community Wishlist. Is there a feature you really want on TVTropes? Post it.
Is there something we could be doing better? We want to know. Do you think we look fat in these pants? We were totally afraid of that. See a bug? Report it.
Important things to know:
- We're all about that content-creation life! The top contenders for our attention are ideas that'll create more content, like the video uploading feature, or speed up launching new pages. On the flip side, design or layout tweaks won't be our top priority.
- Help us dig through the goldmine of old wishlist items! If you have an old request gathering dust or spot one you're totally on board with, give it a bump and a like. There's a treasure trove of 6+ years' worth of ideas just waiting to be rediscovered. Items without enough love may not make the cut and will be closed.
- Was your wishlist item locked up without an explanation? It was most likely disapproved or just too big of a task versus the benefit it would ultimately have. Time is precious, and we want to focus on updates with the biggest bang for the buck. Don't be discouraged though! We appreciate every idea and we're always listening.
Make a Tech Wish:
closed Make a "sort" feature for the listed pages in the "Related" page
Especially "sort by date" so I can see any newest potholing of a page to another page. For easy crosswicking purposes.
closed Helper position for the ban thread
I notice Fighteer said in the ban thread that he has problems getting other mods to assist there. I (and I suspect some others that frequent ATT) would be only too glad to assist.
Septimus had junior mod powers before he was fully elevated. Maybe there could be some equivalent "ban thread specialist" that just gives the person the power to post in that thread. This position wouldn't need un-suspending powers — they could just shift the load on talking to these people and helping to iron out their issues.
I suspect this will be ix-nayed out of peanut-gallery concerns, but just tossing it out as an idea.
closed URLs is not a wikiword
Several instances of UR Ls need the Not a wikiword tags adding at 2.0. I'd fix it myself but regular editors can't edit Administrivia pages.
EDIT: And UR Ls is a red link so why is it green in Night Vision mode here?
Edited by DigifiendopenChange color of links to auto-generated disambig pages
A link to a nonexistent page that shares a title with a page in a different namespace (for example, NotANamespace.Wiki Word) appears as a normal Blue Link, and leads to a disambiguation page that shows the existing pages with that title. It would be helpful for these links to have a different color. This would help distinguish such things as un-namespaced work pages, typos in preview mode, and links to nonexistent pages for adaptations of works (if, say, a book has a page but The Film of the Book doesn't).
I'm just not sure what that color should be, since we're already using blue, green (in Night Vision), red, and orange. Maybe purple, since it's not quite a Blue Link and not quite a Red Link? Like blue, purple would need a different color (maybe yellow?) in Night Vision, though. Open to suggestions.
Edited by HeraldAlberichopenAdd color to Watch button star
Right now, the only difference between the "Add to Watchlist" and "Remove from Watchlist" button on a trope/work page is whether the grey star is solid or outlined. I don't find this intuitive for distinguishing whether I've already added a page or not. Making the solid star blue or yellow would help, and changing "Watch" to say "Watching" or "Watched" for a page on the watchlist would be even better.
Edited by HeraldAlberichworkingAutomatically making a laconic page for a trope when the ykttw is launched
Just so it'd be convenient.
openCreating a list of Tropes to find media it applies to.
One thing I've come to this site looking for is a way to add tropes to a list and then see if those tropes are applied in any media. It appeared to not, so I wish to see a feature like that as I don't know of any website that has one. To give an example of what I'm talking about, let's say I'm looking for a piece of media that uses the tropes:
Artifact of Doom, The Quest, Suicide Mission, Anti-Hero.
If there were a feature I could input all of those tropes, and then it would bring up every piece of media that has them, it would be extremely helpful in searching for what pieces are similar to other pieces, so you can then compare them in how they use the tropes.
closed cut pages and messages
Since I was messaged about pages cut months ago, I feel we should put a date on the message that appears on cut pages, so people know that the page may have been cut under an old or outdated version of site policy, and don't go sending notifiers to people about pages cut years ago. Also, could we get the Cut List to show the year something was cut, since if you've linked recent cuts to those messages, they go all the way back to 2012, at least.
openfirefox tvtropes search
I heard someone made a script that can add the tvtropes search to the firefox search bar. Whether or not this is true, most large wikis do this and I think tvtropes should as well.
openSetting the number of results that display per page in things like New Edits
I would like to be able to set the amount of edits displayed per page to a higher amount rather then digging through the pages
openChange to history page
I think it'd be significantly more clear if the "original" text box had the deleted parts highlighted in red and the "new" text box had the additions highlighted in green. The current method, with the red and green highlights both in the "new" section, makes the history page often very difficult to read.
Edited by UnknownlightopenUnified Notifications Page
I would like a single notification page that lists all new PMs, updates in your watchlist, forum thread replies, starred YKTTW updates, and new replies for starred ATT/YKTS/etc. topics.
openCrowner making tool in Tools menu
Currently, unless you're a mod, making a crowner is a fairly laborious process. It might be helpful to have a function in the Tools menu that operates the same as the function for mods, with the exception that any such crowners would need to be approved by the staff before being launched.
Edited by WillbyropenNotification if an edit is blocked
So, I had a case recently where I was doing long, involved edits on an article, and my lock on it ran out. After doing all the proofreading, grammar checking, pothole/markup checks, etc., I finally sent the changes through, and the edit didn't go through because someone else had locked the article by that point. I never would have known, except that I went to see my edits on the new page and they weren't there.
So is there any way to get a notification if your edit doesn't go through for such a reason, so someone doesn't assume everything is set and leave the page without seeing that? And, ideally, to even save what you had tried to put in aside from keeping the preview changes tab open?
openA new notifier message
I'd like to suggest a new notifier message be added to inform tropers that items like Useful Notes and Just for Fun, as well as works and creators, are not tropes and thus aren't supposed to be listed in trope lists on work pages.
openTracking Newer Additions of a Trope
I was wondering if there can be a way to track newer additions of a trope.
I occasionally like certain tropes and would visit once a month, but when I visit, I forgot which one I knew about already, and which ones I haven't read or seen.
openThe title search's character limit
Currently, the title search has a minimum query of 3 characters, which prevents searching for nonstandard characters like hyphens (among other reasons). If there's no technical restriction that prevents it, the limit should be lowered to 1 character.
Edited by LymantriaclosedGive Watch function ability to select subpages Article
Something that might be handy for people who want to not only add a page to their watchlist but its associated subpages would be to tweak the Watch function so that, when the button is clicked, it generates a list featuring options for just the page, all the subpages, and then has the individual subpages listed for the person to check which ones they want to watch if they don't want to watch all of them.
openPreviewing posts in this thread Query
There's no function to preview posts in this thread or the Wishlist thread.

There are several YKTS queries a day, and it would help everyone involved if ATT had a reminder to go there for those questions.
