As your friendly neighborhood Admin Team, the gang here at TVTropes HQ is always working to improve the site.
Many of those improvements begin with suggestions posted right here, on the Community Wishlist. Is there a feature you really want on TVTropes? Post it.
Is there something we could be doing better? We want to know. Do you think we look fat in these pants? We were totally afraid of that. See a bug? Report it.
Important things to know:
- We're all about that content-creation life! The top contenders for our attention are ideas that'll create more content, like the video uploading feature, or speed up launching new pages. On the flip side, design or layout tweaks won't be our top priority.
- Help us dig through the goldmine of old wishlist items! If you have an old request gathering dust or spot one you're totally on board with, give it a bump and a like. There's a treasure trove of 6+ years' worth of ideas just waiting to be rediscovered. Items without enough love may not make the cut and will be closed.
- Was your wishlist item locked up without an explanation? It was most likely disapproved or just too big of a task versus the benefit it would ultimately have. Time is precious, and we want to focus on updates with the biggest bang for the buck. Don't be discouraged though! We appreciate every idea and we're always listening.
Make a Tech Wish:
closed Update the Namespace Filter on New Edits
So there has been one thing what has been bothering me with the namespace filter on New Edits page (you know, the thing where you can like only see Character pages). There are some namespaces like Games/ and Video Games/ what are outdated and could be deleted. And there are maybe some which would be added like YMMV/.
openFor mobile, ask for confirmation before dropping something from Watchlist
I accidentally dropped something because of a forced realignment, so I thought it'd be nice if the site asked if you really want to do so before going through with it.
closed Mouseover
I have no idea whether TVT actually *wants* this
. If yes, EOT.
But otherwise, it would be nice to have a mouseover showing e.g. the laconic version
for particularly obscurily (read punny or injoke) titled tropes, so that I don't have to open the page.
(Yes, I see the technical problems. Especially with potholes.)
openEdit page warning
When you click on "Edit Page" while another editor has already opened it, you get a message telling you it is locked until X time, but only by clicking while on the page itself. If you click "Edit page" while elsewhere (for examples, Related, Discussion or History), you get no such message, there is just no reaction. A message specifying the page is currently being edited should be seen everywhere you're trying to edit the page.
openWishlist and Bugs links on sidebar
You should be able to access the Wishlist and Bugs sections as easily as you can other sections. As it stands now, you have to click on Ask the Tropers or Trope Finder and click on the page options bar on top to get to either one.
openMake more stuff moderator editable
Some things, like the description of the Ask The Tropers area, it seems like are only administrator editable. But sometimes these areas have problems that need to be fixed, and the administrators are too busy to fix them in a timely manner.
Could all the text areas on the site become editable by mods to speed up some fixes?
openAdd the title finder for tropes to the resource tab
The Tv Tropes webpage used to have a trope title finder in an easy to find location among the resources tab, now you have to bounce around the site just to find it. The title finder should be in the resource tab under tools.
closed Wikipedia style WYSIWYG editor
Wikipedia style text formatting editor for articles/pages that with all options from Text Formatting Rules
openSection Editing
The idea is simple. Each header and folder would get its own edit button. Clicking the edit button would only open the source between that section and the next.
This would make smaller edits that do not span sections way easier, as you do not need to scroll through the other sections looking for your place.
Implementation detail: A switch to region locking would allow multiple sections to be worked on independently. Editing the whole document would take out all the locks.
open"click to see context" for new lines
Remember the "click to see context" button in the history seen in the old version? Well, that now seems to only be there when a line is changed, not when a new line is added or one is deleted. I would like to have the "click to see context" for, at the very least, new lines, because it's really annoying to scroll through the whole page to look for it.
workingNew works
It may be a good idea if there was an actual procedure to help creating pages for works. A "create new page" button, a box to insert the name, a drop list to select the medium namespace (film, TV series, comic book, etc), etc. The system of creating a fake link at the sandbox and editing it is not very user-friendly.
closed RSS Watchlist Feeds
Would it be possible for the tv tropes / thread watchlists to have RSS feeds so one could easily check to see when and edit/post/discussion post has been made?
openCataloging One's Own YKTTWs
Could we set YKTTW so it'd be easier to find the YKTTW we started or are working on again?
openGet "Added DiffLines:" Line Numbers back?
The old system had a thing where if you added something new to a page it would say what line it was for easier finding. Any chance that could come back?
closed Suda51 teaser thread "Believe in the Internet"?
I wanted to create a discussion thread for this cryptic website
, but the "create a thread" thing is gone. Can anyone lend a hand?

Is it at all possible to make an app for iOS for TV Tropes?
