As your friendly neighborhood Admin Team, the gang here at TVTropes HQ is always working to improve the site.
Many of those improvements begin with suggestions posted right here, on the Community Wishlist. Is there a feature you really want on TVTropes? Post it.
Is there something we could be doing better? We want to know. Do you think we look fat in these pants? We were totally afraid of that. See a bug? Report it.
Important things to know:
- We're all about that content-creation life! The top contenders for our attention are ideas that'll create more content, like the video uploading feature, or speed up launching new pages. On the flip side, design or layout tweaks won't be our top priority.
- Help us dig through the goldmine of old wishlist items! If you have an old request gathering dust or spot one you're totally on board with, give it a bump and a like. There's a treasure trove of 6+ years' worth of ideas just waiting to be rediscovered. Items without enough love may not make the cut and will be closed.
- Was your wishlist item locked up without an explanation? It was most likely disapproved or just too big of a task versus the benefit it would ultimately have. Time is precious, and we want to focus on updates with the biggest bang for the buck. Don't be discouraged though! We appreciate every idea and we're always listening.

Edited by Loopytires55openAsking other tropers to guess works
I think there should be a tool where you can challenge other tropers by asking them to guess a work that's X Meets Y. It's like the Pitch Generator, only that just gives you ideas from the TV Tropes library of articles to have you brainstorming.

openShow number of discussions in an article
Discussion pages are pretty dead. This is understandable, since I'm not sure if a page has discussion or not. This means I usually don't go through the trouble of going there, which creates a self-enforcing loop of discussion pages being rather empty. Next to the discussion button, either the number of threads, or threads and replies combined (either works) would be numbered.
closed Holler button for ATT
I would like a holler button (similar to the one in the forums) for ATT, Trope Finder, etc. so that inflammatory comments can be reported to moderators.
openConsistency in writing "TV Tropes"
Okay, not the biggest of deal, it's just the Grammar Nazi speaking here:
There is a lack of consistency on Website's interface on how to spell "TV Tropes". The title in the browser bar, the "Welcome to TV Tropes" page, etc. use the space. However, the menu "Follow TVTropes", which include "Browse TVTropes", as well as the bottom menu ("About TVTropes", "The Goals of TVTropes", "TVTropes customs"), including the license, omit the space. This is also the case for the text on top of Ask the Tropes, the Wishlist, etc.
I'd wish to see the same spelling, "TV Tropes", everywhere.
openWishlist and Bugs at first glance
You know how on the right there are links to Browse TV Tropes, Ask the Tropers, Trope Finder, YKTS, TLP and Reviews? Currently, the only way (I know of) to access this page and Bugs is by going into one of the aforementioned pages, and then cilcking in Wishlist or Bugs at the top bar. I ask for a direct link to these two pages on the right as well for convenience.
openLengthly threads
Some of the threads, especially the Complete Monster thread, are so long that when I go through it, it causes the thing to crash. I would like to ask the moderators to consider creating a way that moves posts from the thread into some sort of place where people can still view them, to confirm people were proposed, but that they aren't part of the thread maybe divided into sections, depending on the month of the year it was proposed in.
Edited by hopeshallliveopenInclude a link to search for title in 404 pages
When one (read: I) winds up on a "We don't have an article named..." page — e.g. having misspelled the title on the address line (wrong articles are particularly common) — it'd be very helpful for the text to include a link to search for whatever Wiki Word they entered. For one, Media Wiki does so already.
Edited by __VanoopenNot exactly a wishlist, but
The description for the Ask The Tropers section needs a rewrite, certain tropers (mostly new ones) keep asking questions of shows there instead of the You Know That Show section.
openIssue Helper request: Discussion
Can we have an Issue Helper message for calling an editor to the discussion page regarding an edit they made?
closed Forced avatars
I don't mean to overstep my boundaries, but can we please cool it with the forced avatars? Or at least have a button to push that turns it off?
closed A "Did You Mean X?" Query
Just in case you typed on a trope with a typo or a singluar/plural word that has no page.
openCan we have an edit timer "time running out" reminder of some sort?
I just lost a bunch of edits I was making to a page because I lost track of time (and had to take a phone call) and the timer ran out. The problem is when you're editing, the timer scrolls past the top of the page and you have to return to the top of the page to see it which isn't always convenient when you're in the midst of editing. I'd like to propose some sort of pop-up that gives a 2-minute or 5-minute warning, so people know to save their work. Alternately, if there was some way to have the timer still be visible when you scroll down a page that would be good too. The timer is there for a reason, of course. But it would make things more user-friendly if there was a reminder mechanism in place.
openDisplay vote ratio in crowner page
Right now, the ratio votes up/votes down is only shown in hooked crowners (in-thread). The ratio should be displayed in the crowner page, too.
Edited by GosicrystalopenImage Pickin' reasons
On Image Pickin, there should be more/better reasons. For example, "NSFW" and "Image Macro" should be separate options, and "Copyrighted" should also be one.
openTrope Mixer!
I've looked high and low but I'm unable to find the design I'm requesting here: it would be as in the sims when you choose their traits but not limited and with tropes. For instance, you could have a Flash Back Nightmare because of a Dark and Troubled Past leading to a Broken Hero, and on and on it goes. Ideally would be a drag and drop format, with little warnings if two things go directly against each other (with an alternative and a manual over ride button) and have the option of being in subtrope format or, preferably for many, a timeline order.
openBetter Thumbs Up/Down smiley images
The current images for the "thumbs up" and "thumbs down" emoticons have no transparency (which means they show with a white background on the blue toolbar) and the "down" image is a simple vertical mirroring of the "up" one, which gives it a messed-up lighting.
I propose a couple of corrected images: corrected thumbs
closed Wikipedia style WYSIWYG editor
Wikipedia style text formatting editor for articles/pages that with all options from Text Formatting Rules

Exactly What It Says on the Tin. The text box both in your inbox and while writing up a post in the forums (any but the OP) is very small. It should be expandable, at least.
