Find a Trope:
resolved Adaptation Repaired Plot Hole
Adaptation-Induced Plot Hole is when an adaptation changes something or leaves something out and creates a plot hole that wasn't in the original.
Is there a trope for when an adaptation changes something or adds something so that there isn't a plot hole that was in the original?
resolved Trope hunting
Looking for a trope that describe a fictional country name, but it's really a real country in its entirety except by name. At least in live-action, this can be found.
resolved Ingredient Confusion
Is there a trope for when a character mixes up ingredients for a recipe, like mixing up sugar with salt?
resolved Hindsight Question Western Animation
Is there a trope for "important episode in hindsight" or something like that? I'm doing some recap pages for Codename: Kids Next Door and want to mention how Operation: C.H.A.D., a episode in season 1, seemed not important to the show at the time due to being a simple Slice of Life story, the only to be important later down the line due to introducing a character that would become a major supporting character/villain later on.
resolved Clothing hiding armor in video games Videogame
Do we have a trope about how in some games, characters can get costumes that can hide their armour of their Virtual Paper Doll and make it look more the way they want it?
I've seen stuff like this with Terraria's Vanity Items and the stuff in the Maple Story Cash Shop.
Edited by JustaUsernameresolved Glorified Dangerous Profession
So I'm trying to find if there's a trope for when in a (usually) fantasy/sci-fi setting for whatever in-universe reason there is this group of people who dedicate their lives to fullfil certain mission, whether is fighting monsters, or going to wars etc. it's usually something related to militarly, assasins or guardian or the equivalent of that setting. Either way, said profession is presented in-universe as the most sacred, noble and just plan cool or awesome thing anyone can aspire to ever become, there are possibly strict selection processes, maybe an Academy of Adventure or maybe the kids are groomed from early life to want to live that life, but for us an audience it's clear that this job has some very ...mmm maybe not dark but just plain unsavory implications, like harsh work conditions, surrender of personal freedoms, of just plain high mortality rate, but for whatever reason people just keep lining up to do it because again it's the best thing one could possibly do with their lives
This observation may or may not come for the characters depending on the tone of the work and the intended audience but that's the overall detail about it, once a while ago I think I found a trope detailing a situation like this, but I'm don't remember it, can anyone help me clear that one up?
Edited by RoseBrideresolved Unintentionally Hired a Hitman
Is there a trope about someone who mistakenly hires a hitman (or summon a dangerous creature) to scare off another in an act of revenge for some past transgression, then realizing that said hitman/creature will kill their intended target and attempting to save said target?
resolved Trope relating to an impossible task
Hello. There was a trope whose name i forgot and can no longer find after searching a lot. It's basically this: "You need to do X to get Y, but you also need to have Y to complete X." "You need the can opener to open this box, but the can opener you need is already inside said box." I think it usually exists in video games. Thank you for enlightening me in advance.
resolved Dead Monster Transforms Back to Human
I'm almost positive there is a trope for this, but am having difficulty finding it: You kill a transformed monster, say a werewolf, but then it turns back into a human as it dies making you look like a murderer. I initially thought Van Helsing Hate Crimes, but that doesn't quite fit. Any thoughts?
resolved Inverted Arson, Murder, and Jaywalking
Is there an inverted form of Arson, Murder, and Jaywalking? Like Vandalism, Jaywalking, and Murder or something similar?
Edited by SwiftSeraphresolved Dunno
Is there a trope for a character or object that is very, very important to the plot but the audience is not told why until very late into the story (chances are that it's part of The Reveal ) but when it's done it ties in with the plot just fine, and they continue to be important afterwards?
I ask because I have a case of this labeled as Living MacGuffin because for the quite a while they were pursued for ubknown reasons but now it doesn't feel right because as stated is pivotal to the plot, what make them special is not interchangeable and their orgin quite literally explains the reason the setting even exists as it is.
resolved Characters or class who wears heaviest equipment Videogame
I notice a lot of games, both Tabletop and Electronic, there's always one guy who stands out for the large range of equipment options at their disposal, most notably towards equipment too heavy for everyone else. Does this has a trope linked to it? (Whatever it is, it would probably be the opposite of Bare-Fisted Monk)
resolved Getting through censorship
I'm looking for a trope that summarises Brian Hanrahan's "I counted them out, and I counted them all back" phrase when he was reporting on the Falklands war, and was not allowed to report on exactly what was going on.
If anyone has any ideas, I'd be grateful.
resolved Against/for it until it affects me
A character supports a position until it affects them personally, at which point they turn against it. Not necessarily Straw Hypocrite, as they may be sincerely repentant and no longer support their former views. For example, a Moral Guardian who's against abortion until his underage daughter gets pregnant, an activist for/against a war until a relative is killed in action, a racist believes stereotypes apply to a subgroup until he actually meets them, a politician does nothing against industrial pollution until he learns his property values are collapsing, etc.
Edited by Chabal2resolved Question on fictional country trope
Hey guys. Been wondering if there's a trope that centers on a fictional country that ends with a "-stan". Looked at "Quarac" as the closest examples, but I don't think it makes sense to me.
resolved Abandon Shipping...
...except without the shipping.
I mean, is there a trope where there rather than abandoning a ship, you abandon a work, not because of a fall of quality like Jumping the Shark nor The Eight Deadly Words but more because of production details (could be an interview, cast reveal, or leaked footage) that are revealed before the actual premiere that either alienate its potential audience or making them averse to watch or read it before it actually comes out?
resolved Is There a Trope That... Videogame
...describes an instance in which the entire character line-up is dressed up in different costumes for a limited time, such as Halloween? Or maybe just changing the costumes in general. For example, the video game Cookie Run has every Cookie dress up in a unique costume for Halloween. http://cookierun.wikia.com/wiki/Halloween_Party
Sorry if my wording sounds bad; usually I tend to express what I want to say badly. .~.
resolved Name makes you think of something else Videogame
In the English version of Dragon Warrior there is a spell called Infernos. Based on the name you'd think it's a fire spell but it is actually a wind spell. Later games would call it Whoosh. So what trope is it when a name makes you think it is something else but it is totally wrong?

What's the trope for when a character has fallen in love and there's a shot from their POV where the object of their attraction is surrounded by bright lights and floating hair and slow motion and stuff?
