The TVTropes Trope Finder is where you can come to ask questions like "Do we have this one?" and "What's the trope about...?" Trying to rediscover a long lost show or other medium but need a little help? Head to Media Finder and try your luck there. Want to propose a new trope? You should be over at the Trope Launch Pad.
Find a Trope:
resolved Ordinary Name Slur
Do we have a trope for ordinary names that, for some reason, is used as an insult in certain contexts?
For example, there’s Karen for entitled women and Tom for blacks seen as selling out to whites.
resolved Camera pans down to short visitor at door
Wasn't there a trope where a character opens the door when they have a visitor, and the camera pans down to show that their visitor (if there is one) is shorter than expected, likely not being the visitor they expected?
resolved During an action scene, everything freezes, and the screen goes blurry Anime
See above. Though I’ve put this as an anime trope, I noticed it in an episode of The Nutshack (yes, I know…) which was heavily inspired by Voltron. For whatever reason, I’m having difficulty finding the right page.
resolved The band from the show? Live Action TV
A common resource in some teen TV shows and telenovelas, where some characters end forming a pop band and even make a tour as the group in Real Life, such as happened in telenovelas like Rebelde or Alcanzar una Estrella (where Ricky Martin had a shot forming Muñecos de Papel)... do we have a trope for that?
resolved Silent/gibberish shows that get dubbed in other countries
Just curious, is there a trope about when shows that were originally silent or just used gibberish get dubbed in other countries to have actual dialog? The main ones I know about are Pat & Mat's various dubs and Pingu's South Korean English dub.
resolved Spooky Pacific Northwest
The great woods of Washington, Oregon, and British Columbia portrayed as full of monsters and a setting for horror analogous to Lovecraft Country. I swear we used to have a page on this but can't find it anymore.
resolved Accidental Transformation
Character A (how has magic powers) turns Character B into a non-human creature by accident.
resolved Know age without asking
In Ace Attorney, although we never seen (or it does, very few as I remember) the main character ask about the other's age. Despite this, every character profile has the exact age.
How did the main characters know other's age?
resolved Confusing last words Film
Alice is on her deathbed. Bob leans in to hear her final words, only for them to turn out to be something cryptic that he can't understand; before he can ask her "wait, what?", she's already gone.
resolved Didn't Go to the Funeral Live Action TV
Alice is mad at Bob because Bob didn't show up at Charlie's funeral - usually, this is serious enough to have the two of them not speak for years.
When they do reconcile, Bob explains he wasn't being disrespectful by not going, he was just so sad about Charlie's death he was in denial.
What's the closest trope to that situation?
resolved defying physics? Videogame
In Zelda, Link's Awakening, if a text box pops up while mid-air, you stay mid-air until it disappears. It's a technical issue, not enough to break the willing suspension of disbelief; it gets weird, though, approaching e.g. Mamu while jumping. You stay mid-air while they perform (which incidentally concerns the best canon in the semitone I ever heard, só funny).
This is obviously a technical oversight and not an intentional breaking of physical laws. Is there a trope that fits this scenario?
resolved Missing Reflection for non-Vampire
Can Missing Reflection be used for non-Vampire?
In Date Everything!, if you look at the mirrors, your face wouldn't show up, not even as a silhouette despite you're supposedly human.
What trope is this, if any?
resolved Rigged fight Videogame
In this trope, the fight is so difficult it generally favors heavily the AI instead of the player. For example, the fight in Pokemon stadium 2 against Red, with rentals only, Red has 3 legendaries on his team, I mean, it's obvious it's not a fair fight. I'm talking about a fight made in videogames against the computer, or an opponent the computer operates, with rules that don't favor the player but the opponent.
Edited by luigirovattiresolved Rubber Ducks and Bath
In fictions, we often see rubber ducks during bath.
In Tom And Jerry, in some bath scene the rubber duck can be seen, and in the Date Everything game, a dateable is based on the rubber duck, which can be found near a bathtub.
Tom and Jerry is a children cartoon so there's no problem, but for Date Everything, I wonder if any adult still play with rubber ducks (there is also a teddy bear in the game, but this is different).
As for the rubber duck itself, how common it is in Western countries's bath?
I only have shower so I don't know. Is this a trope?
resolved Death by Crusher
I'm looking to see if we have a trope where a character gets crushed, usually to their death. I looked on the The Terminator page, but couldn't find anything. Specific examples include the Terminator's means of death (being crushed by a hydraulic press) in The Terminator, being crushed by an anvil/hammer a la Looney Tunes, or Makima's "Force Manipulation" power from Chainsaw Man. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Edited by sanguinemoonresolved Optional Food/Drink, Necessary Sleep
In Date Everything!, you can eat food and drink beverages. However if you don't eat or drink anything for a month or more you would still survive (despite you're human), but everyday you still need to sleep.
The Dateaviators (the glasses that allow you to see objects/concepts in humanoid form) need to be recharged everyday by sleeping. It's unclear whether the sleeping itself recharge the glasses, or you just recharge it right before you sleep.
Tropes? Explain the purpose of this gaming mechanic.

Is there a trope for when characters have a conversation and each speaks their own native language(though they can understand each other just fine). Like Han Solo and Chewbacca.
