For the exact example I'm think of: in the original map for Antonica in EverQuest there are a couple of pairs zones that are right next to each other on the map, namely Everfrost Peaks/Lavastorm Mountains and The Dead Hills/The Feerott which on the map are right next to each other, but in game don't have any connections, meaning you have to take a detour through a bunch of other zones to get from one to the other.

Similar to achievements, but generally require going out of your way to do something more specific to get them. Unlocking enough of them could reveal concept art, cheats, a one-up/extra life, etc. The primary example I was thinking of is the original three Spyro games, but I've seen them in some other games as well.

Upon reaching a checkpoint or end of level goal, the character makes a change to it to show they made it, usually by replacing the villain's face/logo with their own (think Sonic's face replacing Robotnik's at the end of the level in 2D Sonic games).
I don't think this exists, but I may have missed something.

In video games, the deeper you go Beneath The Earth the better resources you find, with progressively more difficult challenges (not necessarily monsters, could be environmental hazards) to match the rewards. Some resources are available only from a certain depth below, to encourage risky ventures there.

openLast Battle, New Weapon trope? Videogame
This is a video game trope which I've seen in several video games...
Some of these final bosses from what I've played, give you a new ability/weapon which is only used on that final boss.
Three examples include from Zelda: Breath of the Wild where you get the Bow of Light, Metroid Fusion's Ice Beam which you only get to use on the Final Boss, and of course, Spider-Man PS 4 (the type where you keep it), where you get the black and gold suit which unlocks the Resupply Suit Power.
What's the name of this trope? Or is it a trope that we haven't added?

In an otherwise-random gauntlet of battles, one is fixed based on character choice. Usually related to the character's story somehow, and generally treated with more weight than the rest of the battles (such as having a cutscene where in other matches there are none).
Examples: Soulcalibur / Soulcalibur II's Destined Battles
, Street Fighter IV's Rival Battles
, and PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale's Rival Battles
, all of which are the match before the Final Boss of their respective Arcade Modes.

A massive, expensive RTS unit that may be Awesome, but Impractical, or it may just be as awesome as advertised. It generally has its own Arbitrary Headcount Limit to, well, limit its use; outside of games where they're meant to be spammed, like in Supreme Commander or Planetary Annihilation. Examples include Dawn of Wars relic units, Sins of a Solar Empires Titans, and SupComs Tier 4 units.
