Find a Trope:
openKnowing exactly how long it's been since an event took place. Anime
Is there a Trope for this? A Character can remember exactly how long it has been since a certain event that has happened several years/months ago, and can specify it down to the last hour or second.
openFound an Abandoned Robot Anime
The story starts with a character finding a deactivated robot in the trash or somewhere else, with the ensuing story usually revolving around their relationship.
Examples include Gunnm, Chobits, Made in Abyss, the French manga Green Mechanic or the more recent Heart Gear.
Related to A Boy and His X I suppose.
Edited by LyendithopenBattle Costume Switch Anime
A character that is constantly changing costumes akin to Final Fantasy games where changing jobs alters the look of the character. This is meant in a "magic" sense not just a plain clothes switch. Sakura Cardcaptor is a good example of this.
Edited by snipermawsopenHands on their head Anime
What do you call that again when anime characters walk putting their hands on the top of their head?
openPowers/anime trope? Anime
Is there such a trope for this?
In a Non-Serial Movie of Dragon Ball Z, during part of the story, the heroes' powers do not work unless a character whose only power is being able to perform a Jedi Mind Trick on the antagonist of the area they're in, allowing the heroes' to effectively leave the antagonist to get thrashed. Otherwise, it ends in a Downer Ending as the heroes are weak compared to the villain.
Not sure if there's a trope for this one.
openDeities in Highschool Anime
I've only seen it in anime and manga: A goddess enrolls in the protagonist's class at highschool. It shouldn't be necessary since they're already centuries old and have vast knowledge. Yet, they still attend classes as if they're still teenagers. Is there a trope that covers it?
Examples: Rukia Kuchiki (Bleach) and Kodama Himegami in Maken-ki!.
Edited by MiinUopenAbnormally Strong Generation (Battle Shounen) Anime
The characters the story is about, including side characters, are remarkably strong or above average, but most people of the earlier and later generations are weaker or average and typically end up as mooks. I'm thinking along the lines of Naruto, where the main cast's generation was composed of powerhouses.
It is important that the trope need not overlap with The Dreaded.
Note: If it does not exist, should I post this on You Know, That Thing Where?
resolved Is this the correct trope? Anime
When I was doing work on The Voynich Hotel, I added this example but later commented it out because I wasn't sure about it:
- Bowdlerize: Zig-zagged in the official translation. In the Fun T-Shirt scene with Helena, English scanlations usually have her shirt saying "FUCK ME", while the official translation uses the equally inappropriate but less vulgar "OPEN FOR BUSINESS". However, while the same scanlations give the female member of the Sleuth Brigade the code name "Vixen", the official translation calls her "Sexy" which is even more inappropriate given her age, although it highlights her failed Femme Fatale schtick even more.
Is Bowdlerize the correct trope?
Edited by WillbyropenMistaken for Villain? Anime
What villainy trope fits this, or Mistaken for Index?
Goku is accused of murder and stealing food in a Non-Serial Movie of Dragon Ball Z, except he couldn't have done it as he was at a tournament. The individual who actually did it was an Ambiguously Human shapeshifter, but everyone assumes it was Goku and he leaves temporarily, too ashamed to return. Mr.Satan decides to fight Goku, not realizing he's a shapeshifter fake with Power Copying abilities.
Secondly, the shapeshifter is a perfect 1:1 copy with nothing to give away his true form.
Is there a trope where the shapeshifter steals an identity and everyone assumes it's them, other than Clear My Name?
Do we even have a Mistaken for Villain trope?
Edited by Merseyuser1openThe hero is part enemy-species Anime
A character has some of the enemy DNA, which makes him both stronger and a cause for concern. This appears in for example Bleach, where Ichigo is part Hollow, and Darling in the Franxx, where Zero Two has Klaxosaur DNA.
openDe-aging trope? Anime
In a filler episode of an anime, for example One Piece, Bob is the king of a local tribe, but the Filler Villain of that episode de-ages Bob from his 40s to being a teenager so he can carry out his Evil Plan.
Do we have a trope for the villain de-aging a character to carry out a plan?
openDon't know the title Anime
some dudes in teams would go around fighting each other with these little animals in tubes, they would like spin the tubes in to like a wall and the animal would pop out, i think one of the teams names were storm and they had a black and yellow theme.
openRoles trope for villains? Anime
Is there a trope for this?
Apart from Punch-Clock Villain, Punch-Clock Hero, Friendly Enemy and Go-Karting with Bowser, is there even a trope for this:
Heroes and villains are simply roles for the characters in the City of Everywhere, off the clock they all socialise with one another, to them being a hero/villain is just a job, that is, until the true Big Bad arrives...
Basically, the Big Bad of the show seen in supplemental materials is just playing a role, and isn't the true Big Bad.

The Lady Snowblood movie was mentioned as one of the inspirations for Kill Bill. When Kill Bill was at the height of its popularity, Dark Horse published a translation of the manga, with the cover having the same "black letters on yellow background" visual as the Kill Bill poster.
It's not a Mockbuster or a Dueling Show, but the translation was obviously published to capitalize on Kill Bill's success - what is that trope?
