Find a Trope:
resolved Weapons with special powers trope Anime
What is the trope for weapons that give special powers to their user? Examples include Zanpakuto from Bleach, Sacred Gears from High School D×D, and ÄRMs from MÄR.
Edited by nightlightieopenCharacter Reference in Different Medium Anime
Is there a trope for a scene which shows the characters on a billboard/poster/picture, but in a different medium?
Example: In Mother of the Goddess' Dormitory, when Frey takes Koushi to the cosplay rooms, we see a real-life picture on the building's wall of six women who are all cosplaying the anime's female characters. (Note that the characters make no special to the picture.)
openYMMV Trope/Flame Trope about general dislike Anime
Are there any YMMV/Flame tropes that cover the following description:
An episode/film in series which is largely disliked by the community, which means that mostly wherever you look, you will more often than not find most discussion about it to be negative. Examples include Lost At The League for the Pokemon Black and White anime, The Rise Of Skywalker for the sequel trilogy, and Modern Warfare 2023 for the COD games.
openCharacter standing in front of a gradient background (for dramatic effect) Anime
This usually happens in anime when a character strikes a pose. They'll generally be standing alone with the gradient behind them as they stand in a power pose
openPeople of a certain occupation share weirdness Anime
Is there a trope where an occupation attracts and breeds people who have similar traits and weirdness?
For instance, magic users in Frieren: Beyond Journey's End tend to be self-centered, somewhat selfish, have strong personalities and are markedly eccentric.
I guess it may overlap with TV stereotypes from real-world jobs like male surgeons, who are shown to have a jock-like behavior and to have poor interpersonal skills and relationships.
resolved English Dub Poisoning Syndrome Anime
So I was dreaming of TV Tropes, right? And in my dream, I encountered a YMMV trope called "English Dub Poisoning Syndrome", the description of which was basically "a bad dub can spoil the series". Naturally, in the waking world, I'm taking to this forum to see if we have something like that.
openThere's just a little of the world left... except not. Anime
Obvious example is Attack on Titan, where the world is actually much bigger than something outside of the wall and that the rest of the world is in paradise in compariasion to that small area.
Of course it doesn't have to be just "small civilization left", it's more the "there's actually a better area civilization behind the border". It was f.e. used as a joke in Total Drama Island, where behind the border of island there's a fast food place, showcasing that there is a whole town out there.
openemotion loss Anime
Okay found out about Twin Princess of Wonder Planet and its first season's end in which the eponymous princesses were temporary bereft of their emotions. It has me wondering if we have a trope about someone losing their emotions in general (that is not Emotion Eater).
Edited by MorningStar1337openIs this Aside Glance? Anime
At no point do they move their gaze, but they stare at what appears to be the camera and respond to what the other characters say.
openDoubt about this scene Anime
My question is if this scene counts as camera abuse or as a rupture of reality since when looking at it closely there is a scene in which the broken glass is behind the two spheres, if it were camera abuse they would be in front, in addition to that at no point do the spheres collide with the screen or get close to it, that's why maybe I think it's breaking reality, since as far as I can remember, the scenes that I can remember are one from the movie Dragon Ball vs Broly in the one where the fighters bump fists breaking reality, but I'm not totally sure.
The only thing that matters to me is that you confirm if that is an abusive camera or not.
I put the scenes in this reddit link where I ask the same thing, the ones I'm referring to, the one above is the scene from Sousou no Frieren and the one below is from the movie that I'm giving you as an example.

openRandom rocks exploding Anime
Two really powerful characters clash, and the show zooms in on a random rock formation nearby exploding from the shockwaves. An example is One Piece episode 1062 at the end of the clash between Zoro and King
Is there a name for this?
Edited by TheForsakenOneopenCan always detect their own kind Anime
In Parasyte, the Parasites have the ability to detect another member of their species, even while outwardly appearing human.
Which trope is this? Psychic Radar? Supernatural Sensitivity? They don't seem to have any other Psychic Powers.
Edited by Opabiniaresolved Neutralizing the strongest asset of the enemy Anime
Is there a trope matching the tactic of going after the strongest element of an enemy to disable them for good ?
As explained in Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Main Characters under Chess Motif for Athrun Zala, this is his main role since receiving his Infinite Justice. He usually goes against those strong elements to occupy and neutralise them, leaving Kira free to do the damage, his Gundam is even specialized to force duels with his close-combat arsenal.
resolved Magical Girl Companion Animal Anime
Exactly what it says on the tin. Most magical girl teams feature a creature that tags along and is usually responsible for giving the team their powers.
resolved Chocobo Travel Anime
Is there a trope listed that essentially covers the replacement of horses in a setting with large terrestrial birds like the Chocobo? I know that Shield Hero also does this, but I'm curious about other series (even outside of anime) that follow this trope.
openScene from Sousou no Frieren doubt Anime
My question is if this scene counts as camera abuse or as reality-breaking since when watching it closely there is a scene in which the broken glass is behind the two spheres, if it were camera abuse they would be in front, that's why maybe I think it's reality breaking Since as far as scenes that I could remember were one from the movie Dragon Ball vs Broly in which the fighters clashing fists break reality, but I'm not totally sure.
I give you the scenes I am referring to, the left is the scene from Sousou no Frieren and the right is from the movie that I am giving as an example.
resolved Differing Cities (?) Anime
What is the trope where there is a futuristic city while the primary setting the protagonists have is a reminiscent of a city from either 20th or 21st Century? Rich/poor division is not the focus here, so it will not be Urban Segregation.
Context from Twilight Star Sui and Neri:

I saw this trope where in a moment, there's some sort of slideshow accompanied by camera clicks and flashes. I've seen this trope a lot, so if you could help me with this, it would be appreciated!
