resolved Edit War ...Death Battle again Web Original
In Jul 23rd 2019, qwigly added this to DeathBattle.Tropes A To C as an example of Bloodless Carnage.
- In the span of Weiss Vs Mitsuru, Mitsuru actually manages to draw more blood from herself (via the Evoker) than she does from Weiss
In Jul 27th 2019, ironcommando edit the entry to following, with "Evokers don't draw blood." as edit reason.
- In the span of Weiss Vs Mitsuru, nobody lands any bloodletting hits despite both combatants being impaled at two different points of the battle.
Today, qwigly edit it back with "Someone probably should have told Torrian that, as there is very clearly a blood effect when she fires her Evoker." as edit reason.
- In the span of Weiss Vs Mitsuru, Mitsuru actually manages to draw more of her own blood than she does of Weiss's, via the Evoker..
As someone who played Persona 3, I can confirm that it doesn't draw blood. And rewatching that episode of Death Battle, it's not really look like blood either.
resolved The Colonial Period
As The Colonial Period has been moved to the Useful Notes namespace, the name sounds too generalizing to non-American tropers, such as myself whose country had two colonial periods. Mind if I suggest renaming it to The American Colonial Period or The Thirteen American Colonies as to make it specific to the US colonial period?

resolved Kill Count and Dead Meat are separate pages Web Original
As the title says, I've noticed that The Kill Count and Dead Meat (the latter of which refers to the channel that the former series is hosted on) are separate pages, but most of the Dead Meat page and its subpages focusses on Kill Count, with hardly anything talking about the rest of the channel's content. What should we do about this (besides possibly renaming the page for Kill Count to remove the "The" if we're keeping the page, since that's not in the title of the show itself outside of James' signing on/off phrases)?
Edited by Akriloth2160resolved Possible ROCEJ pattern
nm3youtube has made a few edits lately that may be worth looking into for their potential ROCEJ-ness.
- On this page
, they turned this paragraph:
- While Belos was already feared as an authoritarian dictator his motives of being an anti-witch zealot and his abuse of Hunter make him far more terrifying, due to the abuse the real people face under religious households, and the atrocities committed in their name.
- into this (a lot more religiously/politically charged):
- While Belos was already feared as an authoritarian dictator his motives of being an anti-witch zealot and his abuse of Hunter make him far more terrifying, due to the abuse real people—especially LGBT people, who are readily accepted in the Boiling Isles, and people with interests their family considers "Satanic"—which is potentially everything even alluding to the concept of magic—face under fundamentalist religious households, and the atrocities both historical and modern religious zealots have committed in their God's name.
- Here
, as part of a Values Dissonance page, they changed a simple "...especially in The New '10s" to "...especially in The New '10s when J. K. Rowling's increasingly outspoken transphobia caused people to start paying attention to the series' politics".
- Then there's this (rather irrelevant) note they added to an entry on a SBIH page
:
- which became Hilarious in Hindsight when Russian dictator Vladimir Putin compared the shunning of Russia after the 2022 invasion of Ukraine to the controversy surrounding J. K. Rowling's outspoken transphobia, forcing Rowling to explicitly distance herself from him
resolved Not related stinger on main DMC page, keep or delete? Videogame
User TimeLordVictorious added this edit
to Devil May Cry, which on the one hand, I can understand some of the humor behind it. However, on the other hand, it's completely unrelated to the page itself, so was wondering if it should be removed or not.
resolved Fanfic Recs self removal
On FanficRecs.Total Drama, one poster removed the recommendations they previously made for fics due to issues they have with the original work’s production company. Is this allowed?
resolved Two more screwed up custom titles
Bara and Girl Love (both of them locked redirects) are displaying as "Bara Genre" and "Yuri Genre" respectively. This type of move was common in the old days, but we no longer allow custom title renames.
The latter is not to be confused with Girls' Love, itself a redirect to Yuri Genre, which displays properly.
(If the following links both display correctly, the issue has been fixed: Bara, Girl Love.)
resolved Am I Being Too Uptight About This? Anime
This question involves the final episode of one of those rather important older anime series, so if you're interested in Revolutionary Girl Utena and haven't seen it, this spoiler warning is for you.
Here's my question:
"Revolutionary Girl Utena E 39 Someday We Will Shine Together", has an example of Screw This, I'm Outta Here!. At two points in 2024 I deleted one of its two bullets on the basis that the event in question does not meet the trope's "unplanned departure" criteria (the character who leaves pays a visit to another character to say that she's leaving, and is then shown walking away with a suitcase). Now that I think about it, it's a better fit for Won't Do Your Dirty Work.
Recently another editor added this event under Screw This, I'm Outta Here! again. I don't want to be a wonk about this and I'm already uncomfortable with having deleted it twice. The event in question is a key moment in the story and as such, editors like to mention it in as many examples as possible. So if I delete it again the odds are good that someone else will add it back before long.
Am I interpreting this trope too strictly? I've been treating "unplanned" as something along the lines of "spontaneous"—maybe I'm setting the bar too high?
Or maybe I'm second guessing myself too much and what I need is a commented out message to discourage people from adding this to Screw This, I'm Outta Here!?
Edited by ShivaIndisresolved Does YMMV have a different standard for natter than Main? Anime
Hi,
This edit
for YMMV.The 100 Girlfriends Who Really Really Really Really Really Love You strikes me as natter. I was looking to edit the paragraph so that it doesn't look like the wiki arguing with itself, but before I do, I wanted to check whether YMMV has a different (lower?) standard for natter than Main.
My reasoning is given that the opinions expressed in YMMV tend to be subjective, does that mean that it's acceptable for Tropers to respond/debate under an entry?

Edited by YuriHaru567resolved Creator/MoringMark Page Getting Too Long Webcomic
The Creator Page for MoringMark is getting too long now, and needs to be split up into pages. Problem is, most of the things troped on the page relate to the various fancomics for Gravity Falls, Star vs. the Forces of Evil, and The Owl House, and while some of them do have specific names or series to them, those ones already have their own pages, with the ones on the creator page itself referring to various miscellaneous comics that, while stand alone, are largely connected in a sort of narrative that isn't definitively named.
So, how exactly should the page be split up, what namespaces should be used, should all of the series get their own pages or should only the largest one, The Owl House, get one, etc.
Edited by RebelFalconresolved Potential edit war
A Leaning on the Fourth Wall example was added to this page
that mentions that "a character considers himself to live in a story in which he's the main character". Because that sounds more like Medium Awareness than anything, I changed the trope name, while also cleaning up other mistakes on the page. The same troper who added the example changed the trope name back
to Leaning on the Fourth Wall because (paraphrased) "The character doesn't truly know he lives in a story. He just like to imagine he does."
Leaving aside how I was supposed to know the difference, would this be considered an edit war? The troper in question didn't PM me or add anything on the discussion page, they just changed the example back to how it was when they added it (even if it was just the name being changed).
Edited by UFOYeahresolved Permission to change entry on Fanfic/MagmaDragonKing without causing an EditWar.
On March 21st, 2023, I added the following entry to Adaptational Backstory Change:
- Whereas Jellal was a genuinely heroic person once in canon before being Brainwashed and Crazy by Ultear for the better part of a decade, here he's Not Brainwashed, is just naturally twisted, and his "heroic" personality was nothing but a front he put on and then discarded in his quest for power. Kairomaru
outlined this themself when a commenter expressed their mixed feelings on Jellal's death since, beforehand, this distinction wasn't apparent in the main story itself.
- The Continuity Snarl-inducing retcon that Jellal was Brainwashed and Crazy by Ultear for the better part of a decade despite the age difference between Ultear and Jellal is removed, meaning that he's Not Brainwashed and is just naturally twisted, and his "heroic" personality was nothing but a front he put on and then discarded in his quest for power.
- The notion that the original version is a Continuity Snarl is debatable, especially when it is treated as such nowhere else on this site.
- For context, Ultear Milkovich was a member of the Dark Guild "Grimoire Heart", obsessed with trying to release The Black Wizard Zeref so they could take over the world, Ultear having been recruited by Guildmaster Hades at a young age after she escaped from a government experiment facility. One of her first jobs was obtaining one of the "keys" to unlocking Zeref by manipulating Jellal Fernandes, a child slave at the Tower Of Heaven who had led a rebellion to free the slaves there, but was shortly after brainwashed by Ultear into continuing the horrors at the Tower so that he could "revive" Zeref, feigning that she was his partner in the process. This lasted until the titular "Tower Of Heaven" arc where, after having kidnapped his old friend/love interest Erza Scarlet, Jellal fought and lost to main character Natsu Dragneel, the Tower being destroyed and Jellal believed to have died, when in truth he survived, just barely, and was freed from the brainwashing, but struck with Laser-Guided Amnesia.
- As PutotyraNoZarus's reasoning for putting it as such is unstated outside of the entries "age difference", not even providing an Edit Reason, I don't really know. The Sinful claimed in the comments for a review by Very Melon that fic author Kairomaru stated "how nonsensical he found it was that she was somehow perfectly controlling him from a distance despite being brand new to her magical studies", except I can find no record of Kairomaru saying that, and it ignores the fact that the reason Ultear was even in that experimentation facility was because of the sheer raw magic power she had since birth, and that she had spent years there being experimented on, some of which was willing since she had escaped once prior to the escape that led to her joining Grimoire Heart, but had returned of her own accord due to her own Dark and Troubled Past. Even the age difference aspect feels like flimsy reasoning since canonically, Ultear is pretty close to Jellal in age.
- Canonically, Jellal was Brainwashed and Crazy by Ultear for the better part of a decade, changing from a heroic and kind person to a ruthless and twisted monster until he was freed. Here, the latter is his natural personality, the former being a front he put on then later discarded once he had control over the Tower of Heaven himself.
resolved StatusEffects, StatusInflictionAttack, and NonDamagingStatusInflictionAttack
On Dawncaster, I had previously written three different examples for Status Effect, Status Infliction Attack, and Non-Damaging Status Infliction Attack. They were as follows:
- Non-Damaging Status Infliction Attack: Some cards allow you to apply one of the several Status Effects to the enemy without dealing any damage. These are useful because such cards typically apply more stacks (4-5) of the status effect because there's no damage. Most Status Infliction Attacks only apply 2-3 stacks or make the number of stacks applied equal to the amount of damage inflicted, meaning that Armored foes or foes with Impervious would not be affected.
- Status Effects: There are several in the game, both ailments and buffs. This trope however, will only focus on ailments and other non-standard status effects. To see what buffs are available, see Status Buff.
- Bleeding - Attacks do an additional +1 bleed damage per stack of bleed
- Brittle - the afflicted takes +1 damage from melee strikes per stack of Brittle
- Burn - per each stack of Burn deal 1 damage at the end of the afflicted's turn
- Charmed - if the afflicted's HP falls below the number of stacks of Charmed on them, they die automatically
- Dazed - Counts down for each card played. At zero, Stun takes effect, preventing all further actions that turn.
- Deep Wound - if the afflicted accumulates 5 Deep Wounds, they automatically die
- Frozen - Decrease the damage from all attack cards by 1 per stack of Frozen
- Jinx - Nullify the next card played
- Poison - the afflicted loses 1 HP per stack of Poison whenever they play a card
- Slow - Add 1 stack every time the afflicted plays a card. Increase the cost of the next cards drawn by 1 per stack of Slow
- Status Infliction Attack: Several cards allow you to both deal damage and afflict one of the many status ailments to the enemy. For example, one of the starting cards for the Arcanist, Frost Shard, does damage and afflicts the enemy with the Frozen status ailment for every point of damage that landed.
The logic was that the status effects listed can be applied both with an attack and without. So describing them generally under status effects and including a more specific example for Damaging/Non-Damaging Infliction Attacks made the most sense to me.
MaLady edited the page
by removing Status Effects and merging what was written under it into Status Infliction Attack, because in their eyes, since status effects can only be applied either with an attack or not, you wouldn't list Status Effects as it's the Super-Trope of Non-Damaging Status Infliction Attack and Status Infliction Attack. While I understand the point in general on Super-Trope / Sub-Trope rules on examples list, placing the list of status effects under Status Infliction Attack makes it seem to me like these are the status effects that can only be applied via an attack, when really, these are all of the status effects that can be applied with or without a direct attack.
I was going to leave it more or less alone, and just edit the page to add a few effects that I missed, but some of the new ones would necessitate bringing back Status Effect since they are an effect you apply to yourself that doesn't directly buff your character (so they wouldn't fall under Status Buff either). But it also seems odd to me to bring back Status Effect and not list all of the statuses under it as it were before and describing them neutrally. So, I wanted to know what others' thoughts were on this before editing the page.
Edited by amathieu13resolved Self-promotey language on creator page
sorry for the double post; coming across some things while wick cleaning.
Creator.Corgipon has some rather non-neutral and self-promotey language in its description, such as (emphasis mine):
- "Corgipon" is an American hobbyist web author, web artist, and somewhat underrated You Tuber."
- Her videos are often known for being either Pocketville-centric or Queen-centric, which she considers her special interests. These videos used to look quite amateur, but as for the latest video, she has shown to have adequate editing skills.
- She has also shown to have knowledge in the Japanese language, as shown in her Japanese fandubs of Adventures in Pocketville and an unofficial Japanese cover of the ending theme. The former turns out to have much better lip-syncing than the official dubbings.
Looking at the edit history and 1) the troper who created and wrote the page was Vanilla Flare and 2) Vanilla Flare is Corgipon, shown by this edit [1]
that Vanilla Flare later removed[2]
.
Is this ok/not against any site policy? Should these be re-written to be more neutral?
Edited by amathieu13resolved WyDuUDuWatUDu = Shaggadelllicc?
I've noticed that Wy Du U Du Wat U Du (who began editing in 2023
) has edited pages on quite a few of the same works that Shaggadelllicc (who was suspended in 2022
) has. Though, admittedly, that isn't enough by itself, the fact that the former troper re-added a Status Quo Is God example about Lisa being a brainy outcast again (albeit rewritten, though still having the same message) that the latter first added on this page
(and it had been cut for shoehorned complaining) is quite suspicious.
resolved What do I do with a fanfic rec if the fanfic in question no longer exists?
So I recently discovered that the links on the page for a Danny Phantom crackfic best known as The Crack no longer work. In addition, I did a quick Google search to see if the fanfic itself still exists in some form, and it seems it doesn't.
I already went ahead and sent requests for both it and its YMMV page over to the Cut List to be deleted. After I did that, I discovered that the fanfic is listed as a recommendation in the fanfic recs page for Danny Phantom.
So what happens now? Will the recommendation stay up, or will it have to be deleted soon since the fanfic is now lost media?

https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ColdTouchSurprise
Someone added a video to Cold Touch Surprise. Now, the video fits the trope well, as far as I'm concerned. However, whoever added it didn't do an example write up for the series it depicts, and I myself am not familiar enough with the work to be sure I get all the respective details correct.
Would anyone familiar with the series please add the write up and crosswick it?
Edited by QPCwBresolved About Dear Negative Reader
I wanted to add an example of Dear Negative Reader to Trivia.Saints Row 2022, I saw that an example already exists on Main.Dear Negative Reader, but it's complainy and bloaty:
- Saints Row (2022) became rather infamous for this. The game was announced as a reboot of the Saints Row series that was Revisiting the Roots, and fans were initially hyped with the graffiti wall art that updated itself leading up to the announcement trailer's release. However, when said trailer dropped, the fans' reactions to it were quite negative. In response, the community managers at Deep Silver, the series' publisher since Saints Row IV, started badmouthing people who were unhappy with the reboot's direction, including making tweets like "Haters gonna hate", and deleting negative comments that criticized series developer Volition from the reboot's videos. Although Volition apologized and removed the offending tweet, the damage was done. Many people were turned off by the game's direction and Deep Silver's hostility towards the fanbase and swore off playing the Saints Row reboot, while those who stuck around and played the game found it to be an Obvious Beta, despite being delayed from its intended February 2022 release date to August for quality assurance purposes. This caused the reboot to underperform critically and financially, which resulted in Embracer Group, the parent company of Deep Silver, transferring Volition's staff to Gearbox Software and then subsequently shutting down the company in August of 2023, just a year after the reboot's launch.
I then managed to cut it down to this:
- After the inital trailer for Saints Row (2022) dropped, The community managers at Deep Silver, the series' publisher since Saints Row IV, started badmouthing people who were unhappy with the reboot's direction, including making tweets like "Haters gonna hate", and deleting comments that criticized series developer Volition from the reboot's videos for a while before the game's release.
I've also seen plenty of examples that are just complaining about creators engaging in this, like the one about Bomberman Act:Zero:
- Hudson Soft infamously had a huge meltdown in response to the equally infamous Bomberman Act:Zero's negative reception and posted an article
on their website primarily dedicated to attacking fans and defending Act Zero. As it repeatedly insulted the older Bomberman games by insinuating they were meant for children, undermined fan favorite Saturn Bomberman's ten-player mode, heavily implied that the only people who played the single-player modes in Bomberman games were losers, note Most likely due to Act:Zero's singleplayer mode getting heavy criticism for Fake Difficulty. and told fans who were upset to play with Hello Kitty toys... yeah, it didn't go over well. It didn't help that the series was already going through an Audience-Alienating Era. While Hudson eventually apologized for the piece, the damage was done—several gaming sites lambasted them for the public tantrum and the controversy ultimately played a hand in their 2012 bankruptcy and merger with Konami.
This all makes me wonder, should we take this trope to TRS? Just the very nature of it just attracts creator bashing and drama importation. And should I go ahead with replacing the Saints Row example that I just cut down?
