Ask the Tropers:
resolved Need some advice on a certain page of a certain politician (resolved)
There's some potential edit warring on the Rodrigo Duterte page as seen here
. There's also some putting tropes on the main description (e.g. Critic-Proof and Critical Dissonance which are supposed to be meant for works, not actual people) and applying several Morality Tropes which is not allowed because that's troping real-life people. I get that the description tries to be neutral as possible but there's a lot of red flags here (e.g. one of the sources linked on the main description is from a twitter post
of a Duterte supporter). So, do you think it's better to have the main description clean-up and locked until his term ends in 2022 or should it be locked indefinitely like the Donald Trump page?
resolved Recent trope launch
I think the recent trope An Ice Death may have been rogue launched. After checking, there are many zero context examples, the user who launched it didn't have any involvement in the development of it at all, and their only edits are to that particular trope.
Anybody else feel this trope was launched prematurely?
resolved In-Universe Examples Only
Is there a thread for handling wicks to tropes that are In-Universe Examples Only? I was cleaning up wicks to Mean Character, Nice Actor, since I remembered it was IUEO, but there are a lot to get through.
Edited by costanton11resolved Adding Examples Question
I want to add an example from a multimedia franchise specifically a novel example from Franchise/Halo. However I've seen other instances of novel examples being added to the video game folder rather than the literature folder. As a result I'm not sure whether I should place the example in Literature or video game.
resolved recap index problem Western Animation
I have been trying to fix the indexing problem regarding the recap pages for The Emperor's New School. No matter what I do though, the recap doesn't show up on the index list for the episodes, despite the index detail being on the page. It seems to only be happening for this recap too for some reason. What could be going wrong?
resolved Cattlemen vs. Shepherds: Fantastic Racism? Live Action TV
There's an episode in the 4th season of the western tv show Rawhide that involves Gil Favor and his drovers coming across a traveling shepherd named Ted Stone, and it revolves heavily around the very real enmity between cattle-workers and sheep-workers of the period. Whilst based on profession rather than ethnicity, the "coding" is very obviously racist. Aside from the insults freely slung between the professions, we have things like the shepherd being refused service at a saloon for his profession, the bartender both refusing to tell the shepherd where to find a doctor and attacking series regular Rowdy Yates for trying to insist on service - which triggers a bar brawl and has Rowdy thrown in jail by the town sherriff to keep him from being lynched, the shepherd warning Rowdy to not ask for a jury trial in cattle country despite being treated unfairly, the shepherd having to see the town vet because the town doctor won't treat him, the town vet noting that no hotel in town will rent them a room, and the shepherd ultimately reveals he narrowly escaped what was basically a lynch mob of 30 cattle drovers who beat a fellow shepherd to death.
Anyway, my point is, does this count as Fantastic Racism? It clearly evokes racist hostility, but is aimed at profession rather than ethnicity... but, on the other hand, this was a real phenomena in the time period that the show is based upon, so it's not "fantastic" in the sense of "never was a thing in real life"...
resolved Hey all, plagiarism here! Web Original
Quotes.Scott The Woz, in its entirety, is full song lyrics.
resolved Typo in article name Videogame
I took notice of how many entries there were in Ensemble Dark Horse for Dragalia Lost, so I decided to move them all to their own page. However, upon launching it, I noticed that I accidentally made a typo. Oops. Any way to fix this mistake I made?
resolved Poor grammar
Kittystyler has had issues with grammar for a while, as demonstrated in these posts:
I have messaged them about it before, but with little success.
Edited by PokemonMasterJamalresolved Image Link Question Videogame
I want to post an image that has a height comparison for the The Last Sovereign. The problem is that the image is NSFW and also contains nude female halflings whose body proportions could be confused with young adolescents. Cropping it won't work as it would remove the height scale and for all intents and purposes, I'm stumped. Can I still link it with the NSFW tag and add a warning about the halflings or should I play it better safe than sorry and forget about it?
resolved What to do about these D&D character pages?
The number of character pages for Dungeons & Dragons has exploded in the last year. The following four pages share some common issues:
- Dungeons And Dragons Deities Major Historical Pantheons
- Dungeons And Dragons Deities Ancient Historical Pantheons
- Dungeons And Dragons Deities Reclusive Historical Pantheons
- Dungeons And Dragons Deities Other Historical Pantheons
On all four of these pages, every god's character folder is largely the same: a huge Wall of Text consisting mainly of trivia, with the only trope listed being the god's Character Alignment, if that.
Plus, there's the issue that, outside of Planescape, most historical real-world pantheons just aren't a big part of most D&D campaign settings if they are part of them at all. There are exceptions, of course: the Egyptian pantheon
exists in the Forgotten Realms setting, as does the Norse god Tyr. Since Tyr is already on the character page for Forgotten Realms Gods, I figure the Egyptian pantheon could be moved there as well—provided that we can find tropes for them.
So what should be done with these four pages? Should they be cut?
Edited by SullenFrogresolved Famous Last Words cut
FamousLastWords.X1999 was cut with the edit reason "dewicking Famous Last Words per trs". However the consensus of the discussion was to keep subpages.
Edited by costanton11resolved Bizarre note?
I found this note on PlayingWith.Your Tomcat Is Pregnant:
- Justified: Alice cannot tell male cats from female cats. note Are you in Alice's position? Well, you can tell the difference by looking under the cat's tail. A male cat (or tom, tomcat, gib if neutered) will have a ball-sack, which is smaller in neutered cats. His penis is underneath the balls, in a little hole. A female cat (or molly, queen if she is nursing or pregnant) doesn't have any visible genitalia apart from her urethra/vagina. You can tell their sex by the time they're a few weeks old.
Is this allowed? Or no?
resolved Does this scenario count as more of a Broken Aesop or Unintentionally Sympathetic? Western Animation
I watched the recent episode of The Casagrandes "Bunstoppable" in which Syd and Adelaide are given the lesson about hard work and integrity, however their father wants them to make 800 bao in a few hours for a cultural fair to humiliate his rival. It's established that it's a difficult recipe that took them both hours to master and he offers them no help, except for criticisms of their bao making and when they are given the task they use their pets and robot to half-ass them, only to have to make 800 more. Is this Unintentionally Sympathetic for the kids? Unintentionally Unsympathetic for their dad? Broken Aesop for the unfair lengths that the kids are pushed to? Some of the above? All of the above?
Edited by Indigonresolved Vetinari Job Security -- political examples
I recently happened to take a look at Vetinari Job Security and noticed that its Real Life section has... several political examples. Most of them are old enough that they should be fine, but there are also some that are referring to events that are quite recent. Are these recent examples kosher, or should they be removed under the Rule of Cautious Editing Judgment ?
Edited by djkatesresolved Which category for aquariums?
Example for Stealthy Cephalopod. Should this go under Theme Parks, or something else?
- The Aquarium at the Boardwalk in Branson, Missouri has an octopus mascot named Aquarius. As an Easter Egg, models of Aquarius are hidden in many rooms, if not every room, of the aquarium. Most of these models show Aquarius matching the color of the walls or scenery to demonstrate the camouflage abilities of a real octopus.
resolved Need help with BoBoiBoy episode titles. (Resolved)
When I made Recap.Bo Boi Boy, I referred to Wikipedia
and Fandom
for the episode titles, aware of the fact that some earlier episodes appeared to lack official titles so I'm unsure who configured the titles in those sources, but they matched each other and seemed viable enough that I went with them.
However, I was recently made aware in this discussion
that the English titles for the episodes on Netflix vary a bit from those titles, and the show was only recently made available on that platform. A bit of feedback I got elsewhere on the matter note (a Discord fan-server) stated that since Netflix is an alternate official distributor of the show alongside YouTube, the episode titles present there are likely official.
So what would be the best course of action here? I did mention in the page's discussion that either redirecting or moving the pages might do it but I'd appreciate finding out how to do so properly. Thank you.
Edit: Reclarifying the two points of my inquiry:
- Which list of episode names takes priority? I'm leaning towards the Netflix ones for appearing more official. But after that:
- What is to be done with the existing recap pages? Should they be moved to those Netflix titles or can the Netflix titles behave as redirects? Or maybe even the other way around for the latter?
resolved Rogue Launcher
I noticed a proposal of mine was rogue launched. When I checked, I noticed it was by a guy who launched a whole bunch of trope proposals without permission.

Is there a particular reason the trope title for Going to the Store is in all-lowercase? all lowercase letters at least has it as a self-referential joke.
