resolved Editor using discussion pages as a forum
Itsnouse19518505268 has left a lot of comments on discussion pages
, hardly any of which have to do with editing the pages, they are mostly giving their opinion on entries found on these pages.
I don't know if this breaks any rules, so I haven't contacted them about it, but it is taking away from these page's purpose.
resolved Heavy-handed "badge of honor" troping Live Action TV
rr3elite appears to have a major Single-Issue Wonk focused on showing off the villainy of the character Zein from Kamen Rider Outsiders and their appearances in other Kamen Rider media, including this week's episode of Kamen Rider Gotchard. I initially reported them on ATT before
for shoehorning in Fan Myopia-laden comparisons to other works through misuse of various tropes, but it is now clear that was a symptom of a much bigger wonk, mostly afflicting Zein's sheet, the page for Outsiders itself, and various pages for Gotchard (YMMV, antagonists sheet, Nightmare Fuel, #33's recap) where Zein's appearance is concerned.
I haven't sent any notifiers because there's too many offending edits to comb through, but a lot of their edits consist of what they have previously been reported for, plus Bold Inflation, countless sentence structure and grammar errors, and "look at how horrible this person is" examples that stretch Zein's villainynote it is a sapient AI that has placed the world into an authoritarian surveillance state with the intent of mass genocide and has manipulated the heroes into giving it its resources, but I would hesitate to call a lot of its actions deliberately symbolic or nuanced beyond face value.. They also added Speculative Troping examples to Gotchard #33's recap suggesting Zein would have had a darker and more dramatic role in the episode, when in reality he only appears to kill one of the unambiguously-evil villains in the episode and leaves just as quickly to promote Outsiders.
I'm not sure if this is a policy violation in its own right, but I cannot deny in good faith that it is starting to compromise their writing and thus the quality of the pages they are editing.
EDIT: The issue has persisted despite previous mod notifiers and acknowledgement of behavior. More information in comments.
EDIT 2: There are still issues coming from this troper despite the above. As before, more information in comments.
Edited by TrocyteVresolved Reporting an Edit War on the ymmv page of Fire Emblem: Three Houses
User Lord Twibill
appears to be attempting an edit war on the YMMV page of Fire Emblem: Three Houses
.
Back in late July they added an example of the game having a broken aesop. I believed their example as-written didn't satisfy the standards of a broken aesop (for one, I don't believe it breaks the aesop at all), so I deleted it, explaining my reasons why in the edit reason.
In response they sent me a VERY long private message explaining their viewpoint, but I got the impression them and I had an irreconcilable interpretation of the game (for one, they view all the characters as being horrible people when without the influence of the player avatar) and that attempting to discuss it over private messages would be a waste of time, so I encouraged them instead to bring it up to public discussion to get more viewpoints than just our own.
They did not do this, and yesterday sent me another pm asking for further discussion. This time I outright told them I thought our reads were irreconcilable and reiterated they should publicly raise a discussion to see how others felt. I then went on to disagree with some of their own interpretations of Fire Emblem: Fates. I criticized the game's morality quite harshly, but I avoided criticizing Lord Twibill themself.
In response to that, they sent me a pair of rather insulting and threatening pms, telling me I was being childish and that they were going to just re-add the example whether I liked it or not, and then threatened me not to delete it again or they'd bring the mods into it. At no point did I find any evidence that Lord Twibill raised a discussion on the accuracy of the example, so I decided to bring the situation up to folks here before things could get any more out of hand.
Edited by Raxisresolved Wonkage?
I think I just stumbled upon a troper's weird wonk while doing cleanup. Malebranche seems to have a fixation on the Doctor Who villain Cassandra; it seems to be the literal only thing they trope, and have done so since 2020 according to their history. I wouldn't be reporting it, though, if they didn't seem to be doing other weird things. For example, they keep claiming that Rose "respects" Cassandra, such as in these
recent
edits. While discussing how sexy she is (with the depreciated Evil Is Sexy to boot). And troping Cassandra's actions under Rose's page.
And misusing tropes
. And indenting wrong
.
All of these edits are from one page, btw. They also have loads on Characters.Doctor Who Villains and Recap.Doctor Who S 28 E 1 New Earth, all of which have the same sort of problems.
Edited by WarJay77resolved Dethroning Moment over the R-word?
Let's talk about this moment on DethroningMoment.Advertising:
- Mister Toodleoo: One night in December 2018, a Canadian TV channel (either The History Channel or OLN) was airing a very short (10 seconds or less in length) PSA during many commercial breaks, and it extremely pissed me off due to it being blatant cancel culture propaganda/fearmongering. It starts with a man in an office workplace talking on a phone, but all we hear of his conversation is the line “That’s so retarded.” (I will admit, this is a good way of getting people’s attention.) This catches the attention of a female coworker, and we then see the man from her perspective. What is this perspective, you ask? Well, the man has turned into a demon! (And he’s heard speaking in some kind of demonic language; I’m not sure what it’s supposed to be.) We then cut to a young girl telling the camera that “When you use the R-word, people see you differently,” followed by a closing screen that includes a slogan. Okay, there are so many problems with this PSA! First of all, it doesn’t say what is wrong with the word, other than it supposedly ruining your reputation. Second of all, the onscreen slogan at the end (which I don’t want to type because it’s my Berserk Button) means that the people who made this PSA think that the word is completely irredeemable, which proves that they are unaware of the Italian word “ritardando”, which is used to tell musicians to slow down, as well as road signs in my home city telling truckers not to use “engine retarder breaks”. Third of all, “wordfighting” campaigns such as this can be psychologically harmful to people with my kind of OCD. For example, it would cause the supposedly “uncivilized” words to pop into our heads at certain times, such as when we hear incomplete sentences that begin with “That’s so ...”. I think that living in fear of these words is a waste of stress. Also, as South Park once showed, when you label and discriminate against people because of individual words they have said (like this PSA is doing), you are doing the same thing that caused the words to become taboo in the first place! Speaking of South Park, modern airings of the show on MuchMusic bleep out the word “retarded/retard” but not “fuck”! Let me just finish by saying that when I was young, I used to be offended by words like “stupid” and “shut up” because I had been told they are “bad”. One time in fourth grade, I was having trouble forgiving a girl for telling some boys to “shut up”, and I never want to go back to that unforgiving mindset again, no matter how much PC culture wants me to.
This feels less like a DMoS and more like a long rant by someone pissed off that it's not PC to use the R-word anymore, trying to justify it with their OCD, by saying there are normal words that sound like it (retardant, ritardando, brake retarder), and because they were taught not to use words like "stupid" and "shut up" in elementary school like most kids. That's like saying we shouldn't stigmatize the N-word because there are completely innocent words that sound like it like knickers, vinegar, and Nigeria. They complain that it doesn't say why it's bad to say the R-word, the commercial shouldn't have to spell it out to the viewer that the R-word was used as a slur towards the mentally (and sometimes physically) handicapped. It's pretty common knowledge by now. Am I alone in this?
Edited by supernintendo128resolved Sonic134
I gave Tropers/sonic134 a custom notifier about their use of first-person writing on WebAnimation. The Boy Who Cried Nazi, a page with several issues with first-person writing being a very blatant one. They responded asking if I'd fix it, to which I told them I couldn't but directed them to ATT / the forums for the second time. They responded saying they'd make minor changes but also demanded I not message them again. They haven't fixed that issue in the edits they made since that reply, and they also have other problems, like the stub / spam page that is WebAnimation.Zara. Clearly they do not wish to talk to me, so sending more notifiers won't do anything.
resolved Concerning edits by a new user
Tyler Durden 889900 created today Soy.Soi Bois, a page about the alt-right "soy boy" meme, written as if it was a trope page and using a made-up namespace (presumably as a way to bypass TLP).
Their only edit in other pages is adding a reference to a transphobic meme
in Viewer Gender Confusion.
EDIT: While I was writing this query they added some weird misogyny
in Women Are Wiser, saying stuff like "men have higher iq variance than women and thus accomplish more than them" and "Women belong in the kitchen and are actually happier being subservient to men, this is for biological reasons, not 'cultural' ones"
resolved User deleting anything related to the so-called "Soulsborne" continuity
Reginald Ogron 5 for the last couple months, against many other people has been deleting anything that regards FromSoftware as having a series in a loose continuity. Whether that be for Mythology Gag, or Spiritual Successor, or just a reference to a level in another Souls game.
This was their latest justification for a Fan Nickname entry: "Due to this game's legacy, many terms and mechanics that were translated over but retained the same identity are often referred to with their previous names. Therefore, Runes are still frequently called Souls, Sites of Grace are still bonfires, Incantations are Miracles, etc."
"Dark Souls is not Elden Ring's predecessor. I have never seen any of these terms used intentionally as a Fan Nickname, they are almost exclusively used by people who don't care about the lore enough to use the correct terms, I.E. they're just getting it wrong unintentionally."
Despite the fact the director has declared them to be in a sort of series.
He references Elden Ring in this context of "loose" continuity.
When he tried to remove the many concepts from old games that didn't make it in, but were used in Elden Ring on the trivia page, someone wrote this.
"Tropes Are Flexible and the page explanation itself explicitly says it allows for instances of recycled assets and concepts in dlc and the like. Elden Ring was advertised as a Spiritual Successor / "greatest hits" amalgamation of all the prior Soulsborne games, made by the same devs, and uses code and models that are directly lifted from the cut content of those prior entries, it absolutely falls under this umbrella."
I believe he's gone way too far, but before I revert his edits, I want to ask everyone's opinion on this question of Mythology Gag, and see whether it's actually against the site's rules?

resolved EditWar: Troper refusing to adhere to correct grammaical errors Web Original
HakillY has issues with grammar, and it's gotten to the point where they've edit-warred over it:
- After I cleaned up their draft of the MEH SMG4 page
, they returned to use incorrect punctuation of a few examples
, overwriting already correctly written examples and removing a correct one without discussion.
- I reinstated the page
back to what it was and sent them a notifier, but...
- They ignored it, re-added the same mistakes (and new ones to boot), and erased another example as well as the one they previously erased
, again without discussion.
resolved Troper with an Agenda alert
Today, a Content Violations report
was raised regarding The Great Rebellion, a far-right Propaganda Piece that uses numerous "anti-woke" tropes and Neo-Nazi dog-whistles. I raised the issue on the Troping Works That Promote Bigotry
thread, being the correct forum for dealing with such works, and decided to look into the edit history of the troper, Second Prince Zen, who created that page, which revealed a pattern of agenda-based troping, with three particularly concerning issues:
- Adding an entry to Occupiers Out of Our Country (with a completely neutral tone) referencing Germans inserting xenophobic lyrics
intro the song "L'Amour Toujours". Said lyrics are a Nazi slogan, and sparked a police investigation in Germany
.
- Adding a Historical Hero Upgrade entry on the page for The 24th, claiming that the Black soldiers involved in the Camp Logan Mutiny
wanted to massacre every white person they saw
. I'm not familiar with this incident and accuracy of this claim but the tone of the entry is concerning.
- Adding an utterly unhinged far-right Twitter rant
into Quotes. The Reason You Suck Speech, then removing it.
I have deleted the Occupiers Out of Our Country example and sent a notifier, but I did think the first three issues are quite worrying.
Edited by Azorius24resolved Possible ban evader + Edit war + Incest obsession + Horrible grammar
I would like to bring attention to Uteslayer, whom I suspect to be a sock of Cynicalyanni. The problematic edits are in Mega Man Battle Network. Timeline is as follows:
- In Jan 13th 2019, Cynical adds an example to the page speculating that the two main characters might be brothers, so shipping them is incest. The example has notoriously bad grammar (no punctuation, no capitalization of names).
- I delete it the following day, citing both the confusing grammar and the fact the two characters are unambiguously related, as they refer to each other as brothers several times.
- In May 17th 2020, Uteslayer adds a new example to the page. It's pretty much identical to Cynical's, as it argues that shipping the two main characters may be incest due to them might being brothers.
- On August 24th 2020, Damolisher deletes the example with the following edit reason: "The weirdness and massive flaw in logic there not withstanding, that's not the correct grammar, chief."
- Today, Uteslayer adds a new example
that's virtually identical to the two previous ones. Again, bad grammar and wondering whether shipping the two characters is wrong.
resolved Pikmin2 and TLP + other issues
Pikmin 2 has a habit of creating very weak TLP drafts that consist of the title, a laconic that's just a repeat of the title (or similar), one line of text, and nothing else. They've done this thrice, all three drafts have been double-posted, they've hatted two of their own drafts
, and the only line of text in these drafts tends to have poor grammar.
Their main wiki activity doesn't exactly inspire confidence either; they created a page
with just the letter "A" and nothing else, they made a Fridge page for an individual trope
(that has now been cut), and some of their edit reasons are...weird
.
resolved Potential agenda editing
So troper Sentient Semitruck have made 2 concerning edits.
In here
they removed several fanfics, one of which details the idea of a character being trans.
And in here
they removed a quote as “ blatantly untrue”. The quote comes from an article that is about the censorship of trans rights by right-wing pundits.
I don’t believe this ok.
resolved Troper page with heavy self-deprecation and even suicidal indentation
Smolidk's troper page is...rather worrying. It opens with "Kill me", and includes entries about the troper in question like Abusive Parents, Angst? What Angst?, Asshole Victim, an inverted case of Beautiful Sexual Assault Victim where they call themselves "absolutely hideous", and more (with one standout entry being "Death Seeker: Kill me pls").
Wasn't there a recently-passed rule that this sort of thing wasn't allowed on people's troper pages anymore because we here at TVT are not trained mental health professionals (which was also discussed here
)?
resolved Troper camping on the Sonic Adventure 2 pages. Videogame
Troper L Fisher has been cutting multiple edits that portray GUN (one of the antagonists of Sonic Adventure 2) exactly as negatively as the game itself does, and making edits that partially exonerate them for committing mass murder ("but the Black Arms!"); they also tend to cut any mention that GUN was implied to be framing Sonic. While all this has been going on for a while, my personal last straw was them doing both of these recently, reducing the "Frame-Up" entry to a single sentence that isn't even accurate (Shadow didn't frame Sonic, at least not intentionally).
Not only is it extremely difficult to make edits about GUN on these pages, but I feel that this is treading uncomfortably close to apologia for real-world atrocities.
resolved Re post:Heavy Biais in the Palworld YMMV?
Hello this is a repost of my previous question because i have butter fingers and accidentelly made the previous question as solved...
Hello, I have been following the YMMV/Palworld by curiosity and i found they had many edits that seems to be heavily biased in my opinion?
_____
-Not-So-Cheap Imitation: Many people dismissed the game as "Pokémon with guns", but almost nobody expected this game to be such a success, selling over three million copies forty hours after long and having over a million concurrent players.. And it's well-deserved, too; for an Early-Access Title, it's very high-polished and well-made, with far more content, animations and visual excellent than what Pokémon to some is ever capable of doing. Many people as a result have even claimed that Palworld is superior to Pokémon at this point, citing this alongside many disgruntled fans as a reason for Game Freak to step up their A-game.
- Fans of Palworld claim that it's a "potential competitor" to Pokemon (with some even stating it's going to dethrone it) with innovation,
-And You Thought It Would Fail: Many people thought the game was going to be a meme-tier "Pokémon with guns" yuck-fest and nothing more, relegated to the bin of niche-dom just like Temtem was... only for the game to sell over three million copies within the first 40 or so hours◊ and reach over ONE MILLION concurrent players◊ as of this writing, Palworld has made history as one of the best-selling and most popular Steam games, without even considering Game Pass or its future Xbox release. Not bad at all for a Phony Mon Deconstructive Affectionate Parody. It also has to do with the likelihood that the latest open-world Pokémon game, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, is the latest of a long line of modern-day Contested Sequels due to its buggy and frankly-unpolished state, so many people hope that it turns out better than what we got.
______
I know the YMMV is all about subjectivity and comparison with Pokémon were inescapable seeing the game and all the controversies it currently stire. But It's sound to me, more like someone wanting to bash Pokémon rather than saying anything about Palworld...
resolved Edit war prevention for a problematic edit Film
madorosh removed
this example from Lady Ballers
- Broken Aesop: While a common conservative justification for the type of transphobia seen in Lady Ballers is to protect women's spaces, the film also promotes the idea that women are always physically inferior to men including at sports, which is both misogynistic and condescending and undermines the alleged "pro-woman" bent.
with the edit reason: "doesn't make sense, the characters in the film mention the biological fact that men have specific advantages over women, which in general is true. Not sure what 'transphobia' is being displayed - everything in the film is played for laughs"
I don't wanna cause an edit war, but the example was valid. The film tries to present itself as pro-women but the film very much plays on the supposed belief that men, even the weakest men apparently who are out of shape and washed out and haven't exercised in years, are more physically abled and skilled at sports than the most trained female athletes. Which very much does go against the film's supposed "feminist" message.
Again, I want to cause no edit war so I brought it here.
Edited by AudioSpeaks2resolved Transphobic edit Live Action TV
Jadekade made a rather transphobic edit
to Wag the Director. I've gone ahead and reverted it, but someone might want to look through their other edits on this site to see if there's a pattern.

Troper Screamout has made vandalizing edits to the YMMV page for Transformers Prime: Galvatron's Revenge by deleting it
and saying inflammatory things. I reverted
this person's blanking of the page, but they tried to add it back
before someone else removed it. When I sent this person a notifier to not blank the page again, they told me the YMMV page was "slander" and that they were friends with the controversial creators on this fan project, which is apparently why they were making those defensive edits in the first place. I'm not sure how to respond to that.
