resolved Here we go again with Danganronpa and its supposed Broken Aesops Videogame
On July 29th, 2024, Lord Twibill added back Broken Aesop to Danganronpa, even through its own Broken Aesop page (which was made by the same troper, by the way) was called into question by another troper
and got cut due to many of the examples of Aesops that were broken instead coming across as one person complaining about certain aspects of the franchise.
That wasn't the first time someone attempted to add Broken Aesop to the YMMV page for Danganronpa. Looking at that page's edit history
reveals that someone did try to add entries for Broken Aesop, only for someone else to remove it one day later. That edit happened after the Broken Aesop page for Danganronpa was cut.
Looking at the Broken Aesop entry, it still feels like one person complaining. I'm not sure if those examples feel a lot better now that Broken Aesop has been redefined as an opinion trope. Talking about this topic might be messy since the troper who made that edit has a history of getting suspended for edit warring. At the time of writing, they're currently suspended. Again. Ugh...
What do you think about this? Should something be done about that example?
Edited by AperturePublishingresolved Troping trivia and YMMV entries for a nonexistent subpage Videogame
I recently added a Laconic entry for the music album Pac-Man Fever. I decided to check the trivia and YMMV pages out of curiosity, and found that people had added entries for the video game also called Pac Man Fever. However, clicking the VideoGame/ tab redirects me to the Pac-Man page instead, which means the VideoGame/ work page for it doesn't exist. Should I cut the Trivia and YMMV tropes, comment them out, or move them to Pac-Man's Trivia/ and YMMV/ namespaces?
resolved Edits Not Showing Up When Logged Out Videogame
Recently, I made these edits
to the WMG page for Home Safety Hotline. The changes show up when I'm logged in, but they are nowhere to be seen when I'm logged out.
I'm not sure what happened, but could it be because I didn't click on the "CONFIRM CHANGES" button in the source editor after I finished making my changes? I noticed that button last night and didn't think much of it at first. Sometime after I noticed my changes weren't showing up logged out, I read on the changelog
that the button was added on the 15th of this month along with the visual editor.
So could that be the problem of why my changes aren't showing up without being logged on? I never really had this problem until now.
resolved Are these examples correct? Videogame
Found this on FireEmblemThreeHouses.Tropes A To D
- All Lesbians Want Kids: If a female Byleth gets a paired ending with Mercedes it is stated that they ended up opening an orphanage and raising many kids together. Byleth also ends up adopting children in her paired ending with Dorothea but only in the Japanese version of the game.
Looking at the trope page, the trope is about various lesbian women who wants to have a kid. This entry simply states that Female Byleth and Mercedes opened an orphanage and becoming mothers to many orphaned children. No mention of them wanting kids. Any other thoughts?
Characters.Fire Emblem Three Houses Adrestian Empire
- Psycho Lesbian: She doesn't express any sort of romantic interest in any of the male characters and has an extreme obsession with Edelgard which goes to the point that she keeps track of every meal that Edelgard has eaten, the amount of times she's sighed, the amount of times she's said Monica's name, or to her chagrin, the names of others compared to her own. Downplayed, as while Monica's obsession with Edelgard is clearly unhealthy she doesn't actually physically hurt anyone over it.
The trope is about a woman is psychotically obsessed with another woman, to the point of actively harming others. As written, Monica sounds more like a lesbian Clingy Jealous Girl than anything.
Edit: The examples are misuse per here
and here
. Locking as resolved
resolved Ace in the Hole Persona 5 Videogame
Hi, I'm the writer for the Ace in the Hole fanfic and one of my readers contacted me. She was doing some edits for the character tv tropes page and some of the images have broke, specifically the character folders that had more than one image. She was really apologetic about it and I've tried to edit it, following the guide on label notes, but I'm not entirely sure what happened, as the images keep breaking. I was wondering if I could get some guidance on how to fix this issue, thank you!
Edited by eiranerysresolved Should this example of "Complete Monster" be removed? Videogame
From the Hotline Miami YMMV page:
- Complete Monster: The Janitors — real names Dennis and Jonatan — are a duo of terrorists and members of the ultranationalist group 50 Blessings, who are responsible for many events in the series. Attempting to make America more powerful in their own vision, the Janitors manipulate the citizens of Miami to slaughter members of the Russian Mafia by sending out cryptic and threatening phone calls, and either take action against those who do not comply, leave them to die at the hands of the Russians if they fail their mission, or simply eliminate them once they outlive their usefulness. When one of their victims, Richter, dismisses the phone calls, the Janitors torch his car and threaten to have his sickly mother murdered. The Janitors then send Richter to kill Jacket, costing the life of Jacket's girlfriend and putting Jacket into a coma. When Richter is sent to prison for his botched assassination attempt, the Janitors hire an inmate to kill Richter to tie up loose ends and orchestrate a prison riot to make sure Richter dies, causing countless deaths. Despite their claims, the Janitors are simply a pair of sadistic hypocrites who are no better than the Russians they resent.
First, the janitors are The Dividual so it's hard to talk about them separately, but I still feel like this break the rule of Complete Monster being about a single character. Also, they just don't have enough screen time to confirm if they're really irredeemable, there's still the possibilites that they have loved ones offscreen.
resolved Possible edit war, spoilers on headers Videogame
Yuusha Fan has added a spoiler tag
on a header in this character page. I removed the tag
and then he added back in anyways
. The thing he added is literally a big time spoiler. Also there is no edit reasons, already DMed him about it. Can I undo that thing? I've already undid it once and I do not want to risk an edit war myself.
resolved something wrong with the Baldur's gate 3 Origin Characters page? Videogame
Specifically this one. Checking the history of the page or the edit page, i can clearly see there is content here. But when i try to look at the page itself... it's blank.
resolved How do you add an Apostrophe to a work title? Videogame
I recently made a page for the vr game Asgard's Wrath, and I don't know how you get it to show the, 's in the title, so it looks proper. Some help would be appreciated.
Edited by Avenger09resolved Should an entry in a Subtext page be updated/removed if Word Of God confirms it's just 'text'? Videogame
Ok, SPECIFICALLY, this is regarding the Resident Evil: Code Veronica entry in Incest Subtext, cos of the Ashford twins (obviously). The subtext from Alfred's obsession with Alexia is the entire basis of his creepiness, and also Alexia to Alfred in her awakening FMV cutscene. But in the same year that Code Veronica was released, Shinji Mikami confirmed in a Famitsu interview that the Ashford twins had kissed just as their FMV intro with the dragonfly torture cuts off. So like, is the incest still subtext? If the producer/creator was telling the story from their perspective that the twins are behaving as twins in an incestuous relationship, is that still just subtext?
My general question is whether Word of God is enough to propel something that SEEMS heavily implied, to actually being told straight to the audience but the audience didn't realize it because the confirmation was deliberately kept off-screen?
Edited by Elementroarresolved Uploaded cover-art for the wrong X-Over. Videogame
Newbie editor here. I recently uploaded cover-art for an Arknights/Code Geass fanfic onto here and well... it was actually for another one. Whoops. The page's original author undid my edit, but we still have that image lying around. What do we do with it? Delete it, or leave it up until someone makes a page for it?
resolved LEGO DC Super-Villains (Headscratchers) Videogame
I do not know if I am doing this in the right section of the site, but there is something that has puzzled me only recently. According to the plot of the game, the Rookie got the abilities of Amazo, an android that is able to copy superpowers. I know it's a game, but still, how? How could the Rookie get Amazo's abilities, given the fact that Amazo is an android, and the Rookie is an ordinary person.
resolved Excessively Long Quotes Videogame
I originally brought up my concerns with Quotes.Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Explorers in General Page Quote Discussion
, but quickly figured that might not have been the right thread for it. Hence I'm taking it to ATT instead since I don't recall a thread specifically for Quotes pages.
The issue is that the Story Quotes folder has quotes that are excessively long. The very first quote is pretty much the entire transcript for the scene where the Hero disappears. The other three are huge paragraphs, each one a borderline Wall of Text.
Surely quotes of that length are overwhelming to the reader? To what extend should they be condensed? Or should they be cut and replaced with more succinct quotes?
resolved Removal of YMMV on Stardew Valley Videogame
DialgaX removed
the entry for Come for the Game, Stay for the Mods on YMMV.Stardew Valley without an edit reason. I've sent them a notifier for removal of YMMV.
As far as I know, the trope is YMMV and mods, being akin to fan fiction, can be referenced in the YMMV page of a work.
Should this be restored?
resolved Are protofolders a thing? Videogame
I ask because "protofolders" for future Throes of the Watchmaker characters were added to the Sea of Stars character page.
Considering the update won't come until spring of next year, that's a long time for them to just sit around. I am a little confused by this.
resolved Transfer edit history from old page to new Videogame
At the start of the year
I migrated the Yoko Taro creator page to it's current entry, as the original page had his name written in western order while he is notable as having exclusively gone by the eastern order in all English marketing. For some reason at the time I didn't migrate the YMMV
, Trivia
and Quotes
pages. I've done so now, can I get a moderator to move the edit histories over so I can then cutlist the old pages?
resolved Restoring parts of an entry (somewhat NSFW) Videogame
For some context: A while back, I reported a troper
(Halberd Stop Crashing) regarding some entries they added on The Legend of Heroes: Trails through Daybreak. In particular, they wrote portions of the Hotter and Sexier to make mention of homoerotic subtext. I removed since we still don't have much information and the game wasn't out in English, since having gay subtext doesn't automatically make a scene sexual. After a while, I got DM from the troper, stating that, "It's a fanservice scene". When I asked for further clarification and evidence, they sent me a .rar folder with screenshots from I can presume is the Fan Translation. At first, I thought it was a sex jokes added to spice things up, but after seeing the scene and using Google Translate, it was confirmed to be somewhat accurate. So I'm asking if parts of the old entry can be restored.
Further links:
- The files they sent me
(the linked ATT also has some screenshots of it but not all of them)
- The trooper's edit
- The Japanese version of the clip
and the English version
(note that I haven't watched the latter because, while I spoiled myself on some aspects of the game, I want to experience the other scenes as blind as possible)
resolved Re: Mass edits of Zenless Zone Zero, Honkai: Star Rail, and Genshin Impact character descriptions Videogame
Recently Makir proposed a mass deletion
of gameplay description paragaphs for the character folders of Zenless Zone Zero, as well as Honkai: Star Rail and Genshin Impact (apparently triggered by DR 34 DN 0 UGHT's article on Ellen Joe). As much as I understand that this was meant to reduce the risk of the pages slipping into Walkthrough Mode, I have my misgivings about the suddenness of it all, especially given that in the two earlier games, such descriptions were written to be integrated with the tropes sections (i.e., certain elements from the paragraphs would make sense in the context of the tropes section and vice versa).
I advocated holding off on the edits and waiting for feedback from the other seasoned tropers so they can at least deliberate and, should they agree to edit the paragraphs, carefully integrate them into the tropes before cleaning them up, but things just kinda rolled too fast.
Edited by zero5889resolved Spoiler markup trouble Videogame
Noticed a spoiler markup bug while browsing in Characters.TNO Japan. I first, I thought it was improper spoiler markup, but all efforts made to fix it, including removing the Japanese characters failed. I also tried removing the note entirely, but the preview showed that it ended up blanking the entire page. Here's the section for context:

Anyone know what's causing this issue? It's really ripping me apart, and frankly, not even switching to the new TV Tropes Editor work, as the page didn't support it for some reason.

A couple of weeks ago, a user went through the main and character pages for TerraTech [1] and changed all the British English spellings to American English, which is against the "American and Commonwealth English" policy. Is it all right if I go and revert their edits, or should I just leave the pages be for now?
