Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
Ask the Tropers is for:
- General questions about the wiki, how it works, and how to do things.
- Reports of problems with wiki articles, or requests for help with wiki articles.
- Reports of misbehavior or abuse by other tropers.
Ask the Tropers is not for:
- Help identifying a trope. See TropeFinder.
- Help identifying a work. See MediaFinder.
- Asking if a trope example is valid. See the Trope Talk forum.
- Proposing new tropes. See TropeLaunchPad.
- Making bug reports. See QueryBugs.
- Asking for new wiki features. See QueryWishlist.
- Chatting with other tropers. See our forums.
- Reporting problems with advertisements. See this forum topic.

resolved Goroseyen = Evilasio?
Goroseyen only started editing yesterday, and already, most of their edits pertain to bashing The Amazing World of Gumball with poor grammar and formatting, just like a certain other troper. One page (the very first one they edited on, no less) even has an edit from Evilasio with the same level of bad grammar and formatting before Goroseyen started editing, and I find it hard to believe that it's a coincidence. Can we get an IP check?
resolved Turning words into links
So, I'm a troper in training and I'm wondering how to turn a sentence or a phase into a link that leads to a trope page. I did it before with media pages and I'm struggling on the trope page part.
resolved Did I edit war?
On April 17th of this year I removed the link for Phantom Thief Silver Cat on Do Well, But Not Perfect because the work page was cut for violating The Content Policy.
On June 8th, Troper No. 9001 made edits to the page, among which was deliberately redlinking games without pages, including Phantom Thief Silver Cat.
Today, I made some more edits to Do Well, But Not Perfect, again removing the red link for Phantom Thief Silver Cat because it was cut for violating the Content Policy.
Did I edit war?
(EDIT: Resolved with Troper No. 9001 through PM, we agreed that the work should be dewicked.)

resolved TLP: Editorship war
This relates to the TLP draft "No Sense of Privacy"
.
This draft was officially started by Jess 0312 in 2018, but I grabbed it in 2021
due to inactivity. There had been little activity on that draft between then and the previous weekend—when both of us are making edits on the draft.
Now, who's the sponsor of the draft...?
resolved MoonMightMan
I originally reported the troper for two counts of possible edit warring (here
and here
). Now they have changed an image without proper discussion (the page is Harry Lloyd) so I feel like I need to make this since it has been gone almost unnoticed.
resolved What do I go to change the title of a work page? Anime
I'm considering of changing the main title of "Literature.Bakemonogatari" to "Literature.MonogatariSeries" since Bakemonogatari is only the title for the first arc/season of the series (and the series itself is a bit of a Long Runner with multiple different names for each arc/season and Bakemonogatari is only one of them). It makes more sense for the main title to be the Monogatari Series instead.
However, I'm not exactly sure where I can propose to change the main title. How do I do this?
Edited by RuckusHeartsresolved Creators Pest misuse added back.
- Creator's Pest: All three of the founding members hate Icarus the Dragon, to the point that they killed him at the end of every movie he appeared innote Kaiser noted in the Creator Commentary that he personally hates him the least but still finds how hard Icarus stops the plot in its tracks with his antics infuriating, while Lanipator outright despises him for being an annoying Kid-Appeal Character that took away from other people's moments in the movies he appeared in..
- They also went out of their way to kill Mr. Satan's students the instant they show up in the Cell Games, feeling they added nothing.
Kaiser: I'd rather edit them out of every scene they were in than bother to write jokes for them.
I previously deleted these
as Cleanup stated it does not apply to fanworks hating them in the source material as not the creators/not the fanwork hating working with them (they could just change/remove them to their liking without the restrictions of licensed works). They were then added back. Months after that ATT
agreed to disallow non-OC characters from fanworks for such.
Permission to re-remove?
resolved Wacky Sound Effect page messed up
So, I went to Wacky Sound Effect and noticed that the page's formatting was, to put it mildly, all screwed up. On further investigation, this seems to have been done by a troper named "Pacocientosas".
Could a mod revert the page? It's really quite a disaster area.

resolved Are protofolders a thing? Videogame
I ask because "protofolders" for future Throes of the Watchmaker characters were added to the Sea of Stars character page.
Considering the update won't come until spring of next year, that's a long time for them to just sit around. I am a little confused by this.
resolved Strange edit to works page - format and font Videogame
Troper Crookedjaw made a strange edit to The Lord of the Rings Online that messed with the folders on the page, changed the font (at least on a mobile page view), made the page image disappear, and added YMMV images throughout.
Could a mod revert the page?
resolved Trying to Avoid an Edit War on a Taskmaster Recap Page Live Action TV
- On September 15th,
I edited Recap.Taskmaster Series Eighteen to add the full instructions from an episode's tasks.
- Later that day,
irwegwert removed most of the third task's instructions with no edit reason.
Am I okay to restore the removed text?
Edited by Riolugirlresolved Formatting help for indexed tropes
I've got a D&D project where many of the characters run the gamut across the tropes listed under Beast Man. What I'd like to know is if the sub-tropes should be sub-bulleted under the super-trope, or listed as separate tropes (and thus scattered across the page). Examples:
This:
- (Other tropes.)
- Beast Man:
- (Other tropes.)
- (Other tropes.)
- Beast Man:
- (Other tropes.)
- Cat Folk:
- (Other tropes.)
- Fox Folk:
- (Other tropes.)
- Lizard Folk:
- (Other tropes.)
- Wolf Man:
- (Other tropes.)

I have reason to suspect S0m3dud3e may be siegeisoverwatchthis ban evading:
I might be being paranoid, but could we please get an IP check just to be safe? If they're not the same person, I wanna watch them anyway for grammar issues but that's another thing entirely.
