Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
Ask the Tropers is for:

- Reports of problems with wiki articles, or requests for help with wiki articles.
- Reports of misbehavior or abuse by other tropers.

Ask the Tropers:
resolved Puppet Shows as a folder is a valid category, right?
Recently, DanceDance made an edit
in Powder Gag recategorizing The Muppet Show from the Puppet Shows category it was to the Live-Action TV one.
I've definitely seen Puppet Shows being used as a category in many a trope (check this
as proof). However, it's not present in our very own Media Categories administrivia.
So, before I revert the edit, can someone chime in, please?
resolved Name of video/song Western Animation
Guys, does anyone know the video/song in Disney which is a montage of the various characters in disney channel, and at the end is stitch (from lilo and stitch)holding his arms up.
resolved Spiritual Adaptation misuse? Western Animation
On YMMV.Scooby Doo:
- Spiritual Adaptation: The 1998 Midway Games light gun arcade game CarnEvil is basically the adaptation of the Scooby-Doo cartoon franchise, but with a Darker and Edgier tone.
First of all, I'm pretty sure that this should go on YMMV.Carn Evil instead of YMMV.Scooby Doo.
Second of all, this feels like a major stretch. Both works may have spooky locations and monsters, but unlike Scooby-Doo, the monsters in CarnEvil are real and murderous, and the only way to stop them is to shoot them. The only dogs in CarnEvil are feral enemy dogs called Broodles. Unlike Scooby-Doo, CarnEvil is ultraviolent and not aimed at kids, and its main source of humor is Black Comedy.
I know it's YMMV, but this is the first I've ever seen someone try to compare CarnEvil to Scooby-Doo. It's definitely a Zero-Context Example.
I've looked in the Projects subforums, but I don't see a cleanup thread for Spiritual Successor (Which Spiritual Adaptation redirects to.) What do we do with this example?
Edited by DrNoPumaresolved Copy-pasted description of Acquisitions Bureau Webcomic
In my "Random Media"-button-guided tour I came across the page of Acquisitions Bureau, the text of which came across as a bit... elaborate, comparing to the rest of the (sparse) work description. Plus, it was put between quotation marks.
I searched the text and found that it was the exact same description as written on Webtoon and Deviant Art, probably copy-pasted from there to the work page. What would be the best course of action here? (I can't write a description of my own, unfortunately, as I'm not familiar with the work.)
resolved Recap page WIP
I decided to write a recap page for a very short story as practice as I'm planning to write a recap for a bigger story sometime in the future.
The short story I'm writing is a recap of a Twisted-Wonderland event that really doesn't put a huge emphasis on story and is just a way to explain than event that is very battle-focused. In other words, it's an introduction to That One Level.
Here is my recap and here is the original story
, if you can call it that...
resolved My launched trope was cut
The page I created was cut for some reason.
Does anyone know why this trope got cut?
resolved Mod revert needed
Someone has changed My Life as a Teenage Robot to nothing but what should be a commented-out note, and given how the troper has done the edit, fixing it is not as simple as just copy-pasting the text that was there before. Requesting a mod revert if possible.
Edited by UFOYeahresolved SOLVED - hyperlink problem
I need to hyperlink to the Other Wikia for YMMV.The Dogs of War. Except this is the link:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1973_Rwandan_coup_d%27A9tat
I tried:
- as it is
- as d'état
- as détat
- as detat
- as d'etat
I run out of ideas how to make it work. Suggestions? Or an instruction? It's always a struggle with apostrophed links, for obvious formatting reasons. And here it is a double whammy due to also having é in the link.
EDIT FOR SOLUTION
Turns out the most obtuse version works:
- apostrophe has to be URL-coded, as d%27
- any diacritics must be used directly.
resolved Harsher In Hindsight (Charlie Kirk) Western Animation
Charlie Kirk was recently murdered during another one of his debates in Utah. The South Park episode, "Got a Nut", mocked Mr. Kirk the month prior of being a "master debater", so where does Harsher in Hindsight fall under there? Is there a waiting period for murders?
Edited by Russell316resolved Looking for something on TLP
I would have asked this on "Trope Finder"...But I feel like that's only for tropes that have been published.
So...A long time ago...There was a trope that was about how "someone was forlornly looking at someone happy" or something like that. Unfortunately, I forgot to save the trope.
I've gone through 122 pages of TLP and I am unable to find it. does anyone even remember what the official name of it was?
resolved Permission for video
I want to upload a video, but I'm not sure if I have to ask permission from the creator to upload it.
resolved Permission to make a sandbox
Do I need to run making a sandbox (for rewriting a page) through someplace, or can I just create it?
resolved Edit war on the Tear Jerker Kirby and the Forgotten Land page Videogame
Troper Back Set 1 added this entry
to the game's Tear Jerker page on April 11th, 2022:
When Elfilin is kidnapped, he actually calls out Kirby's name (or rather, his Japanese name).
On May 5th, 2022, I altered it to not only correct a grammatical error but also removed the part in brackets - listed above in italics - with the edit summary: "It's literally just the name "Kirby" pronounced as you would in Japanese. It's still Kirby at the end of the day, through and through." The only reason it's said like you would say it in Japanese is because Elfilin's voice actress is Japanese herself and the game was developed in Japan.
And then on March 19th, 2023, BackSet1 edit warred by readding the exact previously removed information in a different form
with the summary: "Just kind of felt this was worth noting."
Personally, I'm in favour of altering the "calls out his name in Japanese" bit to what I did back in May 2022, not only for the reasons I specified over three years ago, but also because Kirby's name is the exact same in Japanese as it is in English. The only differences are how it's often pronounced in Japanese and how it's often written in Japanese. But since I already removed said information the first time it came up, if I were to do it again, I myself would also be in edit war territory and could risk a suspension. As for notifiers, I couldn't find a single one that best fits the situation so I decided to bring up the issue here. Other than that, any advice as to what should be done here?
P.S. As for why I'm only now reporting this over two years later...I just noticed it today and, after noticing it, thought I should bring some attention to this sooner rather than later.
resolved User whose only activity is agenda-based Discussion posts.
Jittery Cabbage 668's sole contributions to the site
are responding to years-old discussion pages and making either MRA or right-wing crank posts. No edits, no forum posts. Just three discussion posts that collectively say that the real discrimination is against men and the liberals make up anything else.
resolved New troper edit warring and making massive complain-y edits
A new user, ~amybranch, is making massive edits overwriting other peoples' work
in various Dungeons & Dragons pages that are either on the verge of edit warring (I honestly lost count) but are at the very least highly complaining and often factually inaccurate walls of text.
A few days ago I posted a different ATT about this user
as they were attempting to shoehorn in Crippling Overspecialization in pages where it didn't make sense. Other users seemed to resolve it, but now they're definitively edit warring:
- Amybranch posts the Crippling Overspecialization entries
- I had removed them
with edit reasons explaining why (namely being that they're way too myopic for "crippling" or "overspecialization")
- Amybranch edits them back in
, with an edit reason showing flimsy understanding of the point
- Another user, lycropath, removes the entries
with more fleshed-out reasons with more mechanical context.
- Page was split due to length issues...
- Amybranch came back to not only edit back in the Crippling Overspecialization entries
, but also remove massive chunks of preexisting entries for no explained reason, many of which are heavily complaining and saying "no people don't actually like this character and anyone who does are liars and fake" and being objectively wrong.
They've made many edits in YMMV.Dungeons And Dragons5th Edition that reek of Fan Myopia and complaining, and have further issues of bad formatting (indentation issues), misuing tropes, and pointlessly rewriting other peoples' work to complain more vocally, especially for things that nobody actually dislikes (they really dislike Monks for some reason despite them — anecdotally speaking — being very popular and well-loved at the moment). Can something be done about this?
Edited by number9roboticresolved Kick-a-thoom
Kick-a-thoom has had problems with grammar and indentation for months, and despite responding to my notifiers, they're still making errors to this day. Not only was this
indentation error made only a couple of hours ago, but they also made a page
with a Flame Bait trope that was poorly-written and had to be cutlisted only a few days ago.

While cleaning up AlternateUniverse.Fan Works, I noticed that the Undertale section of AlternateUniverseFic.Video Games has this comment:
Per There Is No Such Thing as Notability ("If it fits the trope description, then it can be put in", "Removing tropes, examples... anything... because of "notability" stifles the wiki") and since what another wiki is doing isn't relevant to us, this comment can be removed, right?
