Ask the Tropers:
resolved Troper with basic grammar issues Videogame
Troper Stefanoiulli 1999 has a lot of bad habits creating work pages. Several of their pages are haphazardly put together and have the same problems:
- All of their pages begin as stubs.
- Images are
inserted into
the middle of paragraphs
.
- Basic grammar
problems
with no
improvement
.
- Not alphabetizing examples.
- Leaving pages like this for other tropers to clean up the work.
While they haven't edited since April, I feel like the issues they have editing worth more than a notifier.
resolved Reverted spelling mistake and wick spelling
On Accidental Downer Ending, Lily The Litten made an edit
that not only reverted a spelling correction I’d made on the Dead Space 3 entry, but also reverted “The New 10s” back to “The New Tens” even though the former is correct now. The first reversion was probably a mistake, but the second one seems more intentional.
resolved Concerning lewdness issues in Trope Pantheons forum
The user M1gami Tensei has posted a draft profile for the character Yuzuki from Call Girl in Another World, which we're getting concerned is toeing the line into fetishism. Their third draft of them
has a full 30 paragraphs (which isn't neccesarily a bad thing, but in this case keep in mind most profiles have just around 10-20), many of which describe the character in question prostituting themselves to other deities or other deities attempting to do "stuff" I'd rather not describe here to her, often in eerily descriptive writing. It was even worse in the first and
second drafts
, which notably feature Melkor getting into very uncomfortable and OOC situations with her and outright stating that Frollo "wanted to suck on her titties", though those two issues were removed in the later drafts after pushback from other members of the thread.
From what I've heard, stuff like this does happen in Yuzuki's Manga from time to time, but I find that weak justification to go all in against the "no lewdness" rule. It doesn't help the character herself looks uncomfortably young. While much of the excessive stuff described here was cut out in the most recent draft posted today
, I find the fact that it was written at all and it took us 3 tries to convince him to cut it out very concerning, so I'm making this ATT to see if further action is needed against this user.
resolved Inappropriate description of a TeacherStudentRomance Music
I'm not sure whether it's correct to post this on ATT, but since I don't know which forum to put this on I'll discuss this here. I recently looked at the Nightmare Fuel page for The Police, and what caught my eye was some rather... let's say suspect language regarding "Don't Stand So Close to Me"
- "Don't Stand so Close to Me" runs along the seduction of the innocent lines. Though the girl is almost an adult, the taboo of a teacher-student relationship sparks creepy feelings, and if you're a teacher, it would probably creep you out how relentless the girl is, waiting in the rain at the bus stop so he'll pick her up. How the temptation and frustration are "so bad it makes him cry" and his coworkers harass him "the accusations fly" . On the other side of the coin, the girl is tormented by her jealous friends and cruel classmates, and Word of God confirms that the teacher raped her in his car. It makes this more than a taboo, it's also a nightmare for both of the people involved.
- Worse; about two decades later, a gender-swapped version of this very thing started to become incredibly common...
First off, there's nothing in the song implying the girl is almost an adult. The lyrics explicitly state the teacher is "young" (so, likely in his 20s), and that "this girl is half his age", which would make her 14 or 15 at the oldest. Second, the lyrics seem to shift the blame on the girl way too much, suggesting she's at fault for her teacher's sexual feelings for her (which is obviously Victim-Blaming). As for the bus stop line, Genius.com points out:
- "Alternatively, we could ask ourselves why the teacher is idling outside the bus stop in his car. Teachers typically have their own parking spaces within the school grounds, so why is he parked up by the community bus stop watching this girl on the rain? Perhaps his lust for the underage girl has escalated to the point that he is stalking her. The light and warmth that his car offers is perhaps representative of a predator’s tendency to groom their prey (the warmth being symbolic of enticement and reward)."
The language above feels like it's trying to tone down the teacher's responsibility in the song, especially if it's true that Sting states the teacher raped her. Not to mention the song is intended to have a Pedophilia Is a Special Kind of Evil moral, so the example is very obviously missing the point here. Any thoughts on this?
resolved Commented-out image note
If I'm making an Image Pickin' thread for a TLP draft, can I just add the commented-out "Page image selected by IP thread" to the draft myself, or does a mod need to add it?
I've already hollered for a mod to lock the thread after an image was agreed on (here
, for reference), but I'm unsure if there was anything else I should've done first.
resolved Image Pickin' dispute
So this issue occurred regarding the page Characters. Our Avatars Are Posting On A Forum Thread Deadly Espresso.
The page in question is a personal one for me, given that it's about avatars I use on TV Tropes' "Our Avatars Are Posting On A Forum Thread" roleplay. There's been a recent dispute regarding the way images were used on the thread, with Animuacid thinking some were of bad quality or were not useful for the article. However, rather than Animuacid personally suggesting me to clean up the article for images that weren't useful, they instead took it to the Image Pickin' threads and made other users suggest some of the images be taken down without my consent. As expected for someone who had made my Characters page into a personal project of mine, I got fed up like someone finally being to clean up their damn room and took cleaning up the page into my own hands, because I thought if I want something about my own content being done right, I better do it myself. However, the Image Pickin' thread wasn't closed after my attempt at cleanup, and even after notifying Animuacid about the cleanup, they haven't closed the Image Pickin' thread.
Was Animuacid's approach to getting my page cleaned up improper and should've just been a private talk with me, or am I just being unnecessarily bitchy about someone making unwanted modifications to an article that's become a passion project of mine? Any sort of compromise to get the page in better shape would be ideal.
resolved Pictures for Simsala Grimm character pages Western Animation
There are more character pages for this series, categorized by episodes, but it is clear they all need more pictures. Keep your eyes open, and please add them, thank you.
resolved Avatar from a Content Policy violating work.
Recently, I noticed that Zeanobia has on her gallery an avatar of Saki Yoshida
◊, the protagonist of Metamorphosis 2013. That work was cut by a CVD thread
for being too porny.
Now, I'm not sure if avatars from Content-Policy violating works are banned even if the pics themselves are SFW. When I asked this in the Wiki Policy Thread
, Fighteer responded that they could mean trouble if you use them as a form of sneaky protest, but I can't say that's Zeanobia's intent. Moreover, the new "no-rule breaking avatars" rule
doesn't say anything about Content-Policy violating works.
Should we give Zeanobia a tap on the shoulder to remove the Saki avatar or not?
resolvedAPP How do you earn badges?
So, I just recently downloaded the TV Tropes app, and I was wondering about how do you earn badges through the app? I was told at one point that you can earn badges through the app, but I wasn't sure how that was done.
resolved Trope Title In Camel Case
Has anybody noticed that the page for Preemptive Declaration has the name in CamelCase instead of two separate words?
resolved DanistheIndonesian2013 = INDONESIARAYA?
INDONESIARAYA was bounced a few months ago after a bad post, yet just today I discovered Danisthe Indonesian 2013's query.
Are they one and the same? They both have "Indonesia" in the title and they don't seem to have good grammar.
Edited by skan123resolved SparkPlugTheTroper and cutlisting YMMV
Earlier, Spark Plug The Troper cutlisted a YMMV subpage for a recap page, saying that recap pages can't have YMMV pages, only the main page of a work can. Given how there's thousands of YMMV subpages for recap pages (and especially after recap pages were officially allowed Moments subpages), this seems misinformed at best. No other troper has tried to cutlist a YMMV page for such a reason (because it pertains to a rule that doesn't exist), and yet this is at least the 3rd time Spark Plug The Troper has done this.
resolved What happened to the CM Massacre forum game?
Just noticed it suddenly vanished from existence. Only thing i can find was a Reddit post saying the game was suddenly locked for unknown reasons. Curious to know why was it locked and presumably deleted?
resolved "Highlander" disambiguation glitches(?) Live Action TV
Series.Highlander was recently split into Highlander: The Series and Highlander: The Raven; previously, the second link redirected to the first. However, the "Series/Highlander" relatedsearch page
says that Series.Highlander The Series still redirects to the page, despite the move. Also, earlier today, I changed Highlander's page type from work to disambig, but now links to Highlander: The Series are green too, despite that still being in the "work" page type category!
What's going on here? Can it be fixed, and if so, how?
resolved User with writing issues
KiraKiwi410 has made a handful of edits with some kind of writing-related misdemeanor, of which I either had to correct or remove.
- At
least two
entries with bad grammar on Cross-Regional Voice Acting, as well as general problems with grammar and wonky wording on other pages, including an entry
on the page for Barbie Dreamhouse Adventures (which also is very light on context) and an entry
on the YMMV page for Vampirina: Teenage Vampire.
- A pretty whiny and bashy entry
on Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie that has some wonky phrasing.
- An entry
regarding Princess Power on Multiple Demographic Appeal that has no context as to why people outside of the target demographic would like it. (I was given the okay to remove this one on a clean-up thread)
- An entry
for Polly Pocket on Diagnosis of God with improper addition of a show title (you're supposed to use italics to refer to a work) and a bit of wonky writing.
I've sent them multiple notifiers over these edits, and asked them to go to the Help with English thread over their grammatical mistakes and wonky wording. However, they have not responded to any of them. I would like assistance with this issue.
Edited by DongwaChanresolved Grounded TV shows that have one supernatural episode Live Action TV
Hello! I want to put together a collection of TV episodes that aren’t USUALLY supernatural, but then have one episode that seems to suggest that the supernatural element “might be real after all…" Stuff like ghosts or aliens, etc.
An example would be the Mac Gyver episode “Ghost Ship,” (somehow not about ghosts) where he’s stalked by Bigfoot. The creature is revealed to be a fake, but then at the end they hear another Bigfoot call, implying it might actually be real.
If anyone has some suggestions, I’d love to hear them. Thanks!
resolved FridgeHorror.TheOwlHouse and ROCEJ
Relevant ROCEJ cleanup thread posts: 1
, 2
On FridgeHorror. The Owl House, Firework has repeatedly added an entry about deportations in the US about the show's ending
, even with it being removed multiple times now. This is dicey content with ROCEJ in mind, on top of having nothing to do with the show since it's a fantasy cartoon that doesn't need to adhere to reality.
resolved Transphobic edit
Thibaud 313 went all in with this
edit.
I'm actually surprised one can be this blunt, not even trying to conceal it in any way - for a moment it felt like I was still browsing /tv/ in the other card. Bonus points for coming from an account that's been dormant for years.

Fallen-on-Hard-Times Job has a unusually large list in its description that describes ultra-specific scenarios from media that should be already counted in the Examples section.
Should I cut it entirely or just whittle it down to "generic" scenarios?
