resolved Unilateral character page change Videogame
Jack Carlin ([1]

Quasi-official Pretty Cure Entry Pimp
resolved Promoted fangirl concerns Videogame
So, I've gotten into a thorny sort of situation recently (~6 months ago-ish).
To stop the game Spellstone from becoming one of many Defunct Online Video Games, the higher-ups at Kongregate implemented a "Community Dev" policy, where members of the fanbase can freely volunteer to assist the developers with stuff like game balance, troubleshooting, and... most importantly, writing ideas for the story. This was around late July. I was one of those volunteers, and since I was the only one who gave a rat's ass about the story, that means I more or less became the head writer (some other people have written it more recently while I had exams and life stuff, but it's like 80% me).
Ordinarily there would be no issue, except I had previously made a rather extensive work and character page (as well as a bit of YMMV) on this site for the game. This was before I became a community developer — after which, the only edit I made on any Spellstone-related pages was a small typo on the character page. I have not troped anything that I have written for the game, and have even been reluctant to finish adding in tropes for the old developers' writing (as terrible as it got pre-Community Dev) for fear of a conflict of interest. I was going to propose Complete Monster or Magnificent Bastard candidates the old writers had written, too, but I don't think I can do that either now. I really don't want to be guilty of Auto-Erotic Troping, and I don't want to get banned for my pre-Community Dev edits.
So, I guess my question is, TL;DR, I essentially singlehandedly wrote a work's page on here, and after doing all of that, I became a writer of that work. What can I/should I do to keep my hands clean?
resolved can i use the eye scream trope for a page? Videogame
so, the game, my singing monsters, has very little tropes for its characters and, since it's a musical game, there are bound to be unique ways of a character playing its sound. one of the characters, knurv, pulls out its eyes to make its sound. now, i want to add the eye scream trope to its page, but it's not exactly harming the character. do i add it?
resolved Uploaded cover-art for the wrong X-Over. Videogame
Newbie editor here. I recently uploaded cover-art for an Arknights/Code Geass fanfic onto here and well... it was actually for another one. Whoops. The page's original author undid my edit, but we still have that image lying around. What do we do with it? Delete it, or leave it up until someone makes a page for it?
resolved Transparent images - ''Tekken 8'' Videogame
Hi all,
I noticed that the official site
has high quality transparent images of the cast of 8, and as transparent images are a site preference, I thought this could be a good plan (see in-situ grab below - I have tested the images, but haven't changed anything yet). I'm very active in the Fighting Game pages, but as Tekken is a series I'm less close to, I wanted to get some sort of consensus before actioning anything out of courtesy. Let me know!
(EDIT - sorry for the double post! hit post twice :/) Lex.

resolved Re-adding a pothole Videogame
On Characters.Fire Emblem Fates Corrin, troper rmctagg09 removed
a Surprisingly Realistic Outcome pothole since it was "not particularly surprising". However user Lord Twibill added it back
with a (imo) rude edit reason. Tagg already reported it here
but I feel like this is concerning enough to warrant an ATT report.
Edit: Turns out that this is edit-warring:
Edited by Ayumi-chanresolved How do you add an Apostrophe to a work title? Videogame
I recently made a page for the vr game Asgard's Wrath, and I don't know how you get it to show the, 's in the title, so it looks proper. Some help would be appreciated.
Edited by Avenger09resolved Is this trope misuse? Videogame
I wanted to ask something about With Catlike Tread in case I'm just misunderstanding it. My understanding of it is "Exceptionally noisy/noticable attempts at stealth". But the examples listed from videogames seem to count "noticable to the player in real life" as "exceptionally noisy/noticable" even though it's not portrayed as such in-universe. Here are some examples of this.
- In Xenoblade Chronicles 1, Riki is prone to screaming "Riki sneaky!" when activating his "Sneaky" skill, a special attack that deals more damage when hitting enemies from behind. This doesn't actually affect enemies' perception of him, though.
- A major design element of Overwatch is that every hero (except Zenyatta, who floats) can be heard through walls; it can be very easy to hear Reaper (who wears big heavy boots) or Winston (a giant gorilla) attempting to sneak around you.
- Somehow, The Legend of Zelda's Link can always stay unnoticed as long as he's out of sight no matter how loudly he grunts and screams.
So my question is, are these misuse? Or am i misunderstanding the trope somehow?
The thing that prompted me to ask this is that I removed the entry for this trope from the Patapon page thinking it was misuse and Reginald Ogron 5 added it back
with the edit reason saying that it is indeed the correct meaning, despite it being obvious only to the real life player and not anyone in-universe.
resolved Redirect or just cut? Videogame
I see that a page for VideoGame.Yakuza Kiwami 2 was previously made back in 2020, but doesn't have any tropes listed and is basically a stub. The only other edit made was about a year ago. Kiwami 2 is a remake of Yakuza 2, and the VideoGame.Yakuza 2 page already contains a folder about tropes that are exclusive to the Kiwami 2 remake.
Should the Kiwami 2 page just be a redirect to Yakuza 2 in that case? In the same vein, I was thinking of making VideoGame.Yakuza Kiwami (a remake of the first Yakuza game) a redirect to VideoGame.Yakuza 1. Or is it a case where it should just be cut since the thing in question isn't crosswicked that much (6 wicks for Yakuza Kiwami 2, 1 wick for Yakuza Kiwami)? I apologize if this isn't the right area to ask this question.
Edited by taotruthsresolved Potentially suspect forum activity Videogame
Troper memers has made a lot of suspect posts on the Trails game forums that feel wrong.
For context, we were discussing a character who, in a victory quote, really likes young girls (..yeah). Here
is the quote in question (11:58 mark).
But memers have been trying to downplay the entire thing such as here
,here
and here
. I don't feel comfortable with these posts but I want to know what other people think about this.
resolved Possible edit war, spoilers on headers Videogame
Yuusha Fan has added a spoiler tag
on a header in this character page. I removed the tag
and then he added back in anyways
. The thing he added is literally a big time spoiler. Also there is no edit reasons, already DMed him about it. Can I undo that thing? I've already undid it once and I do not want to risk an edit war myself.
resolved Should this example of "Complete Monster" be removed? Videogame
From the Hotline Miami YMMV page:
- Complete Monster: The Janitors — real names Dennis and Jonatan — are a duo of terrorists and members of the ultranationalist group 50 Blessings, who are responsible for many events in the series. Attempting to make America more powerful in their own vision, the Janitors manipulate the citizens of Miami to slaughter members of the Russian Mafia by sending out cryptic and threatening phone calls, and either take action against those who do not comply, leave them to die at the hands of the Russians if they fail their mission, or simply eliminate them once they outlive their usefulness. When one of their victims, Richter, dismisses the phone calls, the Janitors torch his car and threaten to have his sickly mother murdered. The Janitors then send Richter to kill Jacket, costing the life of Jacket's girlfriend and putting Jacket into a coma. When Richter is sent to prison for his botched assassination attempt, the Janitors hire an inmate to kill Richter to tie up loose ends and orchestrate a prison riot to make sure Richter dies, causing countless deaths. Despite their claims, the Janitors are simply a pair of sadistic hypocrites who are no better than the Russians they resent.
First, the janitors are The Dividual so it's hard to talk about them separately, but I still feel like this break the rule of Complete Monster being about a single character. Also, they just don't have enough screen time to confirm if they're really irredeemable, there's still the possibilites that they have loved ones offscreen.
resolved Possible Word Cruft? Videogame
I attempted to ask this in the "Is this Word Cruft?" thread
, but haven't gotten a response.
This was recently added to YMMV.Mario Kart 8:
- Let’s face it, even if you hadn’t seen the Prefix Leak or didn’t know it was in Tour, you knew Wii Rainbow Road would be the final track of the Booster Course Pass, so it wasn’t even a slight surprise upon its reveal.
While it's not wrong, as others (including myself) were indeed able to predict the course, it just comes of as crufty to me. What should I do?
Edited by ChillyBeanBAMresolved Troper making undiscussed removals to Characters/TheLegendOfZeldaGanonGanondorf page Videogame
A troper by the name of WaxingName has been going through The Legend of Zelda: Ganon/Ganondorf page and removing almost all the references to Ganondorf being a reincarnation of Demise/incarnation of Demise's hatred with the claim that wasn't supposed to be the case in the original Japanese version of The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, citing the following video:
While the Japanese version of Skyward Sword may not have originally intended for Ganondorf to be Demise's reincarnation, the English localization — which IIRC is what TV Tropes, as an English-language wiki, is concerned with, the Hyrule Hystoria artbook, and the (admittedly non-canon to the main timeline but still overseen by Nintendo) Hyrule Warriors all either strongly imply that Ganondorf is Demise's reincarnation or outright refer to him as such. Even Breath of the Wild alluded to it by calling Calamity Ganon the Incarnation of Malice and saying he was a manifestation of an even more ancient evil... at least prior to that being pseudo-retconned by Tears of the Kingdom.
I've DM'd WaxingName with the suggestion that rather than just wholesale deleting all the entries relating to Ganondorf being Demise's reincarnation, he should just specify that the are exclusive to the English localization of Skyward Sword (as well as Hyrule Historia and Hyrule Warriors); and add Adaptation Relationship Overhaul, Related Differently in the Adaptation, or something similar to specify that Ganondorf is treated as Demise's reincarnation in the English version of Skyward Sword (as well as the other entries in the franchise specified) but not the Japanese one.
However, my understanding is that tropers are supposed to get consensus on the Discussion thread or ATT before making major changes like this, and I'm not seeing any posts where WaxingName has done so, which is in violation of the "unilateral changes" rule. I'm not sure what should be done in this case, since I can kinda see where WaxingName is coming from even if I don't agree with his methods. Any suggestions on what should be done?
Edited by Arawn999resolved Genshin Impact: Furina, gamebreaker or loser edit war Videogame
On November 10th, Altair 97 expanded Furina's Memetic Loser entry to include her gameplay performance (previously it focused only on her role in the story). However, this seems to be a personal opinion and runs contrary to public consensus on Furina's gameplay so Konoe Jerry removed it. A few hours later Altair 97 added the entry back with no changes.
Currently a gamebreaker entry is being drafted for Furina, with discussion from multiple Tv Tropes participants.
resolved Reorganizing OMORI - Main Group Page Videogame
Currently, the Characters page for the main cast of OMORI organizes the character folders into the Headspace version of the group and the Faraway Town versions of the group, which leads to some redundant trope entries between the two versions of each character. I would like to reorganize the page by character such that each character's Headspace and Faraway Town counterpart is grouped together, allowing for a general folder for each character's shared tropes.
Since this would be a complete reorganization of the page, I want to run it by people before going through with it, but I am unsure of what forum I should use to do so. Would this be appropriate for the Short-Term Projects forum, or is there a better option?
Edited by IglooTAresolved 2 questions Videogame
I'm trying to create a work page,
https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Sandbox/TheCleaner
1) I couldn't load an image. I followed the designated steps. Could it be a sandbox thing?
2) I refer to Game Maker, which is the program used to create the game and points to a certain demographic of indie game programmers. It is written without the space, however, it turns out Game Maker points to a trope. Is there a way to display it without it becoming a wick automatically?
resolved Troper camping on the Sonic Adventure 2 pages. Videogame
Troper L Fisher has been cutting multiple edits that portray GUN (one of the antagonists of Sonic Adventure 2) exactly as negatively as the game itself does, and making edits that partially exonerate them for committing mass murder ("but the Black Arms!"); they also tend to cut any mention that GUN was implied to be framing Sonic. While all this has been going on for a while, my personal last straw was them doing both of these recently, reducing the "Frame-Up" entry to a single sentence that isn't even accurate (Shadow didn't frame Sonic, at least not intentionally).
Not only is it extremely difficult to make edits about GUN on these pages, but I feel that this is treading uncomfortably close to apologia for real-world atrocities.

DialgaX removed
the entry for Come for the Game, Stay for the Mods on YMMV.Stardew Valley without an edit reason. I've sent them a notifier for removal of YMMV.
As far as I know, the trope is YMMV and mods, being akin to fan fiction, can be referenced in the YMMV page of a work.
Should this be restored?
