resolved A WMG on a Headscratchers page
I've noticed that Headscratchers.Pandemic includes an example acknowledges it's actually more a Wild Mass Guessing, rather than a Headscratcher. It reads:
- Not actually headscratchers, but really WMG, but I'm gonna toss this out here: The board game Pandemic? The players in that game are working against the players of the flash game. Which is why you can't really manage killing everyone very frequently.
- Incidentally, you can't get to Madagascar in that game either.
Would it be permissible to create a WMG page for Pandemic and move this there?
Edited by Dieselresolved Books with the same name Literature
I added the book Out of the Dark by Norah Lofts to Summary/Literature which I may or may not create a page for at some point, but Out of the Dark already goes to the book by David Weber on this wiki. And there are a bunch of other books with that exact name. What do we do in this case?
resolved A seal as a creator
Today, a page for a real-life elephant seal was created. Despite having his own social media footprint, this is the first time I've ever seen a wild animal getting a Creator page on this wiki. So I wanted to ask, is this kosher?
resolved Proposed policy changes for Character-Specific Pages (CSPs) - Crowner voting now open
Crowner voting for the proposed Character-Specific Page (CSP) policy changes is now open here
.
Current guidance is that a CSP may be appropriate if an existing Characters page meets at least two of the five recommended qualifiers - e.g. if a particular character takes up a huge amount of space on a shared characters page and that page is getting too long. The proposals aim to replace some of these guidelines with specific rules.
Rather than a single vote on the rewritten policy statement, this Crowner has broken it down into six different statements, each with its own vote:
- The recommendation that character folders should be cleaned before a CSP is approved would become a hard rule. Cleanup would be coordinated by the existing Character-Specific Pages thread
.
- The recommendation that any CSP should be at least 40,000 characters would become a hard rule.
- The recommendation that other options must be attempted first, such as splitting character pages into smaller groups of characters, would become a hard rule.
- The note that CSPs may be used when a page starts showing 'too long' errors would be replaced by a hard rule that a CSP will only be created if the parent page is approaching 250,000 characters.
- The note that the original Characters page "should still have enough writing to stand on its own" after a CSP is split out would be replaced by a hard rule that the original page is still at least 40,000 characters after the CSP is created.
- All pre-existing CSPs should be actively reviewed against the new rules and merged back into other Character pages if they don't meet them.
After voting closes, any changes that get consensus will be updated on the Administrivia Character-Specific Pages policy page.
Please comment on the linked thread and/or vote if you have a view on this.
Edited by Mrph1resolved New policy page - troping translated works
We now have a new Administrivia policy page for handling translated works:
Troping Works Created in Other Languages
At the moment this only covers works with official English translations, but we'll be expanding it as policy decisions on other scenarios are made.
If you have an interest in these discussions, the policy decisions will be via the Translation Policy thread
on Wiki Talk and final wording for any additions or changes will get consensus via the Outdated Administrivia
thread before any updates are made.
resolved Mobile malware on WMG page
https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/WMG/Scarface1983
So I was looking at this page on my phone, and immediately it tried to lead me to some phony “your phone is being hacked” page with malware in it, no doubt.
I forgot where I go on this website to report that. Can anyone show me again?
resolved Question about tropes on Creator pages
I know personal tropes aren't allowed, but what about tropes that describe things commonly found in their work? I've seen this with both Russell T Davies and Harlan Ellison (from just randomly browsing) and I'm unsure if they're worth commenting out as well.
Sorry if this is a silly question!
resolved Yes, I HAVE tried rebooting!
So I just added an example on Have You Tried Rebooting? and then pressed the random trope button once I was done, and it sent me to the Have You Tried Rebooting? page again. And again. And again. And again. What's up with that!? Every time I press that button it sends me to the same page!
Edited by Lermisresolved Trope: Baby Played By A Blanket? Live Action TV
A baby (sometimes even a young toddler) is present in a scene but the script doesn't require them to do anything (except maybe cry, babble, or coo, but that can be added in post). Very commonly in those cases, and for good reasons, the baby is not played by an actual baby, but represented by a vaguely baby-shaped rolled-up blanket (often containing a doll). Because faces are hard, the baby is usually shown from behind or completely hidden by the blanket. Examples: most sitcomes, e.g. The Office, Big Band Theory. Also the second act of Into the Woods. Is there a trope page about this? I tried Google and couldn't find anything.

resolved Edit War: Characters/Deathstroke Print Comic
First a brief background on the characters involved to give a better understanding of the situation:
Rose Wilson joined the Titans alongside Bart Allen in New Titans. However, she did not stay long on the team, instead becoming the nanny of Roy Harper's daughter in Titans (1999).
A bunch of things happened, she was drugged into serving Deathstroke who forced her to betray the Titans, got freed from his control and then rejoined the Titans during One Year Later, where she didn't have a good relationship with most of her teammates (Bart was not among them) except Kid Devil and later on Blue Beetle. She later quite the team, after some time rejoined for a few days before quitting again (Kid Devil died some time later and has not reappeared in comics since then) until the last incarnation of the team before Flashpoint where she was on good terms with almost everyone, including Bart.
Now the situation:
On July 18th 2023,
I restructured the example "The Friend Nobody Likes" in the folder "Rose Wilson (Ravager)" to make it easier to read. Of course, I did not delete the content, just restructured the text and added to it. Among the text that was already there and which I merely restructured was the line "The only friend she had on the team was Kid Devil / Red Devil (Eddie Bloomberg)" which I restructured into the following sub point: "Defied with Kid Devil / Red Devil (Eddie Bloomberg) who, for a long time, was the only friend she had on the team." (again, the content remained the same).
On Februar, 9th 2024,
the User Elio Herondale replaced "Kid Devil / Red Devil (Eddie Bloomberg)" with "Bart Allen" (without adding an additional point for Kid Devil, I might add) without giving a reason for the change.
On February 20th,
I added some examples to the page. While doing so, I discovered the edit and reverted it citing Roses and Kid Devils explicit friendship compared to the lack of interactions Rose and Bart had until the last incarnation of the Teen Titans as reason. Afterwards, I messaged Elio Herondale (which, in hindsight, I definitely should have done to clear things up before reverting their edit, a mistake I now acknowledge and won't do again) asking why they replaced Kid Devil with Bart. Admittedly, at that moment, I had forgotten that Rose and Bart had met before the last incarnation of the Teen Titans. As such, in their reply the following day, they reminded me of that and then
proceeded to replace Kid Devil with Bart again,
further adding the line "since she first joined the Post-Zero Hour incarnation of New Titans." but again without citing a reason why they excluded Kid Devil.
I then replied in two messages:
In the first on February 21st, I conceded that the two did technically know each longer but counter-argued that they had barely interacted during that time while Eddie and Rose had a genuine, on-panel friendship during her time on the Teen Titans, the time frame the example referred to, asking once more why the replaced Kid Devil with Bart.
In the second message later that day, I proposed a compromise to end the Edit War: I would not touch their changes but merely add the following line "as well as Kid Devil / Red Devil (Eddie Bloomberg) who was her only friend during her time on the Teen Titans in Teen Titans Vol. 3 during and directly following the Time Skip of One Year Later.". This way, I hoped to settle the Edit War with a result both of us should theoretically be able to live with while also still having the entry be factually accurate.
They did not respond to either of my messages since then despite having been online multiple times, as shown by their numerous edits.
Recently, the mod revert
reset the situation back to what it was before their edit.
Please note that my problem with their edit is not so much the addition of Bart Allen (since they've known each other for longer and never had any on-panel bad blood, I guess you could technically see it as somewhat of a friendship despite the lack of interactions reminiscent of a friendship between the two until the last incarnation of the Teen Titans) but rather the exclusion of Kid Devil, whose close friendship to Rose is backed up by both the source material (Teen Titans Vol. 3 #34 - #60, #70 - #71) as well as various sites on the internet, including DC's official wiki DCDatabase
.
Since I've never been involved in an Edit War (and hope I'll never be again), I don't know how to proceed. Therefore, I am now asking you, the community at large, on what to do next:
Should I go through with the change I proposed or add another subpoint containing it on the risk they may just delete it without giving a reason? Or is there another option I do not know about?Or am I the one in the wrong in this Edit War and owe them an apology? I was hoping to handle this situation reasonably, though I do acknowledge that I made a mistake deleting their edit before messaging them. But if any of my other actions were also unreasonable, I welcome any and all constructive criticism.
If requested/required, I can, of course, provide screenshots of the messages.
Thank you for your input and have a great day.

resolved Moving character to a different page Literature
I'd like to move Shen Jiu's character profile from Characters. The Scum Villains Self Saving System Demon Realm And Other Characters over to Characters. The Scum Villains Self Saving System Four Main Sects. Currently he's just under Other Characters, but I think he should really be under the Qing Jing Peak section as he was literally the leader of said peak before his (presumed) death, at which point he exits the story. (I'm explaining this to clarify that there are no conflicting affiliations or anything so I don't know why he's been placed under Other Characters.) Am I allowed to go ahead and move him?
